I really like seeing the evolution from when Matt first joined to like this and Attention, where they are taking better advantage of Matt's vocal style better.
This one started out as Kevin mixing the songs (and Scott heard and suggested they do it as a group) which I think is where the focus on putting Dua Lipa's lyrics over the Timbaland beat rather than mashing up lyrics so much came from. It was the beat, itself, that was the inspiration for this one. I wouldn't have minded a bit more Aaliyah, myself, though this is one of my favorites. I love their mashups. Have you done La La Latch (La La La and Latch mashup)? Desperado x Shape of You is also great, but there are only fairly decent concert recordings and an audio only upload of the studio recording, no official video or professionally recorded lives.
This was recorded while Kirsty was on Broadway in Kinky Boots. The rest of the group flew in from California since she had so little time off between shows. I don't know how much time they typically spend arranging, rehearsing, fine tuning, and recording. Kirstie's availability may have dictated the mash up assignments.
They did a full version of "Break My Heart". And they did "Don't Start Now" but it was a tour exclusive and there are only fan cell phone videos; here's one of the better quality --th-cam.com/video/4b-vHAyfQao/w-d-xo.html
I think the problem might be expectations. I believe this is just a cover of New Rules, buuuut, to the beat of Are You That Somebody? With a little bit of Are You Somebody lyrics thrown in. I know you wanted more of a 50/50 mix of the two. And I agree, a 50-50 mix would have been pretty sweet with Kirsty doing Aaliyah for the second verse instead of the New Rules second verse.
I prefer Aaliyah to Dua Lipa…but I think the mash up was kinda genius. That beat tho…maybe a verse would have been nice to include from Aaliyah. I agree with you, don’t know if I want this covered straight.
Damn the special thanks stopped. Did I send you the various Minchin movie trailer openers? That BASS! OMG . . . and of course, beatboxing was ON THE MONEY.
Crazy ass mashup for sure!!! Great word for Kirstie; Glam up. That rhythm and bass was killer!! Matt's bass distortion was so cool!
Matt's the star of this one for me...he killed that bassline
This whole song is fire. Scott kills everything he does, truth.
That kicked ass.
PTX ROCKS.
❤🎼🎵

For a few songs with Kirstin singing lead, try Say Something, Shallow (both with Kevin cello-boxing), Rather Be or My Favorite Things.
Great reaction. I've never heard the artist you were referencing, so I will go check them out.
Remember, they only do upgrades... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
YAAASSS!!! PTX!!!! Thanks! Great reaction👍
Great reaction! Subscribed!
I think you would really enjoy the 2016 pop spring performance

Recommend their Seasons Of Love (televised version).
Also recommend Kirstin’s original, Break A Little (acoustical version).
I love this video!
Flint town here.
Most PTX videos have me wishing for more. This one definitely didn't have that feeling, but was still good.

This is still hands down one of my top faves. Check out Can't Hold Us also.
Fair reaction. Mostly Aliyahs awesome bass line, loved what they did, but their were 12 other ways it also could have been amazing.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

They wanted to do more of Aaliyah, but her representation only released that snippet.
I had a feeling, I know they just recently released her music to streaming services

Would Aleia be proud of the job they did? Then that's how you should feel.
