A lot of this looks great because of the camera effects showing the sheer force of certain blows, a lot of the special effects have buildup or change into other effects.Some of the sequences are very ambitious,.Tales still produces good work, but sometimes the modern mystic artes feel a littel too quick, and with animation and special effects don't always give that sweet feeling of sheer impact. Maybe the pressure of HD development has to do with it, making certain sequences harder to produce then they used to be.
Same question... But sadly, VP2, covenant and Anatomia will ever equal the majesty of VP1(personal opinion) they look cheaper than the original in term of work and quality. VP2 should have been a tweak of VP1... Going 3D and changing sooo much(the orb system is crap) was a big mistake. Going Tactical with Covenant...also a mistake.... The only good thing in them prequels is Lenneth. Shes the only constant thing(character wise and Voice actress) VP1 will always be a power house that setted the bar sooo High...

VP2 brings back extremely fond memories. but alas, my PS2 barely works anymore :(. Even after witnessing these soul crush animations so many times, they still impress and amaze me as they always had, even by today's gaming standards. Everything about this game is epic.
I really loved this game, can't wait to find my Ps2 again. Great graphics, great story-- GREAT character interactions with excellent replayability, good combat and most suprisingly of all, great character development. Seriously, she turns from a standard sad princess to a badass valkyrie-- and she's so cute too. I'd nibelung her valesti anytime. Also Seraphic Gate was fun as hell.

I really think they should have done it the other way around. Give Alicia the standard Valkyrie soul crush when she is still with Silmeria, then after give her the teleporting soul crush to show her growth and independence.

VP2 doesnt come close to how great VP1 was. And Star Ocean 3 is the worst in the series. Its just cringe. But im glad others seem to really like SO3. We need VP3: Hrist.

These soul crushes reminds me of the mystic artes used in the Tale series. I hate to admit it but these animation looks better then the artes in Tales.
Lezard's quotes and spells are sick :) Everything about Freya is just crazy though. You can actually solo pretty much everything Just with her, crazy broad.
Still have this for the PS2. Fantastic game! How are you able to deal so much damage to the enemies though? My characters' Soul Crushes were never that strong.
I know this is late but basically soul crushes have a multiplier based on your stats and the number of hits you make, using tripple edge gets your hits up pretty high, also stone cutting pincers and wing feathers boost your Sc damage. Most people dont know this and just go for damage builds instead of soulcrush builds.

Maaan, I still remember playing this game. The graphic were one of the best out there. Instead of making my character really strong, I equipped all survival skills so that my characters can't die. 😂 One boss battle in Seraphic Gate lasted about 45 minutes and my characters rarely died. 😂
I don't know why, but I always get pumped when I hear one of Lezard's soul crushes (except Pale Flare, that one has weird mixing). I will always miss the great Maddie Blaustein, but Liam O'Brien makes one HELL of a Lezard.

Excelent video there is only one soul crush that you did not get was the one the arectaris returned but well you got with Seluvia or Xehnon even do this is a great video. I love the soul crush of Lezard curiossly he only mention his complete name in battle during this moment. but i never agree of this game was that tri-ace could have created a nibelung valesti with bow and arrows as they did for Lenneth in VP1 or one with Lance for Hrist
Dude no matter what, if a tri-ace +Square enix collaboration game releases, it WILL kick major ass regardless. I don't know how they do it but every game they have released (minus infinite undiscovery) has been like a super duper major hit!! I reccomend all jrpg lovers to check out tri-ace+square enix games, they will never dissapoint.

I was surprised at Gabriel Celestia's appearance in that game. Jack was like. "I didn't ask for this" then ran around the room. I was not expecting the ambush part though, that was a bit cheap.

Why they don't do special moves like these no more is my question. The dialogue in them and the combos and explosiveness is awesome.

The level of detail in the character designs, animations, and finish strikes is sublime!. VP 1 and 2 just amaze me.

Mages took a pretty a pretty big nerf in VP2. They're not the all-powerful gods they were in the first.
I think meteor swarm was the most popular and considered the most powerful spell in VP lore in Ragnarok days, Tho celestial star has the most damage
Meteor Swarm was equally strong , but more enemies were weak against Celestial Star.
And it's a strong greater magic can deal a lot of damages.

Awesome game, I really liked tri-ace's stuff, hearing the plot actually made it worth the grind. This and SO3 were probably the best rpgs for PS2 imo.

Get to the last save point in the final dungeon, save, and then exit out of the dungeon. The Seraphic Gate will become available on the map.
