    This kit got me into RC cars. I built the body to match the box art for the shelf and did another body to bash. Always wanted one as a kid, I'm 39 now and it was money well spent! Love the channel!

    Quick in a straight line and twitchy as Hell on anything other than smooth tarmac, I had countless hours of fun with my original Hornet. Parts of it still sit on my desk in front of me right now, a languishing project that I need to finish.
    Thanks, Glenn.

    "look at the shocks on that". My first RC was a Grasshopper c1986. I loved that car. Picked mushrooms every Sunday for months to save up for Hornet tyres, a Hornet body (painted with a leftover can of black gloss in my dad's shed), and a set of Marui Ninja stickers because they looked cool (or maybe because my local model shop didn't have the Hornet stickers). I'd have picked any amount of mushrooms to get my hands on shocks like that. Love the channel, Glenn.

    I remember modifying my hornet back in the day. 12 turn trinity and coldbuster speed controller. Lowered the suspension. It was quick. Didn’t really turn. It mainly just flipped over a lot. I bashed it around regular until the front tyres split due to poor camber. I remember getting in trouble with my parents for driving on the road at night. They would get complaints from drivers they thought it was a cat on the road. Loved the build and thanks for the memories must have been 30 years ago now

    Completely agree you never get tired or bored with this classic kit build. I think its because for so many of us, the Hopper/Hornet bathtub was our first kit and as kids the constant tune ups, repairs and re builds were so frequent between racing them with mates that now you can just switch off and relax when building it again absorbed in nostalgic muscle memory.....until you get to the Hornet stripes decals that is, absolute nightmare lol! My Hornet reissue kit in original box art has a set of swap out black painted wheels, I prefer the black colour combo to the original whites on it, gives it more of a classic 80s racing car look

    Looool you made me bring back some memories of me thinking woooow those back shocks were so professional looking. When you think about it now, its strange but the hornet was one of the only buggys with metal shocks and beadlock wheels, it just makes it so much more unique.

    Another great "simple" build. Seriously, though, while I MUCH prefer more "complicated" builds, a nice "simple" build (such as a Tamiya Grasshopper/Hornet, Traxxas 2WD Slash, etc) is fun to do every so often. Speaking of which, I picked up a Grasshopper re-read kit a couple days ago, and I'll be building it today while I'm 'waiting' for the players of today's bowl game (legally, I can't say location, which team, or which bowl game) to re-board the bus. It'll look great spring next to my Grasshopper-themed 35th Anniversary hydroplane.

    G'day Glenn I bet you have a lot of unused little tubes of grease and silicon oils Tamiya lock tight. It looked like such a fun build mate. I wish I had of got the hornet instead of another grasshopper I might keep grassy new in box and chase up a Supreme hornet to build one day. Bloody great video mate 👍👍

  • @Pablo668
    @Pablo668 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love the Hornet, it was my first hobby grade RC. The front friction shocks work arguably better than the rear oil shocks (pogo sticks).
    Something else to consider, a Hornet built to a more modern spec like the one in this vid is waaayyyy lighter than an original. The original had four AA batteries, and extra servo a manual speed control and a ni-cad battery. That weight kind of helped the suspension do something at least.
    My OG Hornet has modern electrics so it tends to bounce around a bit.

    Mega seeing this as my first was the Hornet when it first came out. I can't remember if I chose it or whether my dad did, but either way I loved it, that familiar loud click when you go on and off the power as that floating axle setup at the chassis bounces up and down with that little spring in there 😄

  • @K-Anator
    @K-Anator ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've always loved that there was a Supreme Hornet, seems so out there.
    I wish I knew more about my Hornet, I assume it's an original chassis with re-re body, cause the box I have and chassis seem vintage, but the body has re-re decals on it. There was a destroyed Hornet body in the lot, clear with a bit of orange pain on it, maybe that was the original.
    It doesn't look like it's ever been run in it's current state, but the body is cracked it some of the corners. But given how my DT-02 Franken-Viper is looking, it's probably best I don't ever run that Hornet.

You could say the Grasshopper but with the Hornet having those sweet aluminium rear shocks it makes feel that little bit more serious! Totally dig what you say about the shocks! To be honest there still beautiful looking shocks today one of the best looking sets of shocks in my opinion and let's face it good enough for the wild one!!😉👍
