The lyrics at the end make me feel as though Ascalon is living on borrowed time and that when Rhode's Island has no more problems or issues, she's going to disappear or die, with how the song repeats the line "I'm a shadow" and then "The shadow that protects you is erased by morning sun" with the shadow representing herself and the morning sun representing a happy future that she can't see herself being in, by how the song also says "You can't have assassination" most likely meaning that she can't have the Doctor or the others getting their hands dirty, since it would take away their happy ending, or their "morning sun". The lyric "Once I'm done, I'm left alone" also plays into the earlier idea that she can't see herself with Rhode's Island after all the problems are done and delt with, and that she thinks she'll be on her own with no use. It also makes me feel that she thinks of herself as only a tool with how the song includes lines like "no manipulation hides it, where my motivation lies" and "I can purge no hesitation" showing Ascalon's inner thoughts of herself as a tool, her perceived motivation being to finish something that was started a long time ago or to protect what remains of her friends, and to then leave afterward. The line "I'm a shadow" also supports this since shadows are not living things and are a silhouette of something created when the object absorbs light, which may also mean that this version of Ascalon is much different compared to when she worked originally with Doctor, Kal'tsit, and Theresa. Lyrics are spot on, but I can't get used to the vocalist, especially for the chorus line where "I'm a shadow" sounds indistinct, which is fitting for a shadowy assassin, but as a listener I want to hear the words. Also, the vocalist at certain points sounds (to my ear anyway) consistently just a smidge flat, which seems intentional due to the consistency, but irks me somewhat. Or maybe it's just my ears...

Took me a couple of listens but I dig this song. I like how inviting it feels while at the same time its something that you cant quite grasp (audibly)
