    Just got a pair of Airpods Pro 2 and felt sharp pain inside of my right ear 2 minutes after I put them on. I didn't even listen to music, just had them on in noise cancelling mode. Removed them immediately, but I still hear slight high pitched noise in my ears. I don't have history of tinnitus. Physically they felt very comfortable, no fit issues, so I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the noice cancellation signal they're emitting. Turns out there are thousands of people on Apple's official discussion board complaining about the same thing.

    I just bought AirPods and for me they are helpful with my tinnitus. The background sounds help distract from the tinnitus. Also because of noise cancelling, I can enjoy music quietly and do not have to worry about further damage. That said, now I’m concerned about using them. I’m leaning towards hearing aids so I will ask the specialist about if I should ditch the AirPods. I never used them before and I think they are AMAZING. Maybe hearing iAds will do the same and more…

      hello! how did it go with the airpods? do you still use them?

    • @TheAubreyLynch

      Thanks for asking. I have minor hearing loss and moderate tinnitus. I don’t mind it as I’ve learned to ignore it but in a quiet room I have to turn on background noise so I don’t focus on it. I also sleep with ambient noise. I’ve found the sound of crickets work best so I have those playing in every room quietly when I’m home.
      I’ve been using AirPods doing everything you say not to so I’m moving forward cautiously knowing my next step should be hearing aids. I just can’t afford them now. I use background noise with AirPods sometimes and I mostly use them to listen to podcast. Not much music listening. When I listen to music it’s 85 decibels or less. I use the noice cancelling feature and a sealed ear canal (exactly what you said not to do) I live in NYC so blocking noise in the street is heavenly. I’m going to watch your video regarding using AirPods as hearing aids and go from there. Thanks for all of your helpful information. Your reply sealed the deal. Ok subscribed lol ✊🏽

    I am afraid of wearing any Audio devices on my ears because I don’t want it to weaken my hearing over time by making them less sensitive to sounds. (Since it’s getting sound waves from a close proximity.)

    Hi Dr. Ben. I have found a trick based on what you and others have taught. I carefully cut holes around the rubber skirt of an earbud. These fenestrations allow outside sound to pass around the earbud while still inserting the therapy sound. This is a "poor man's" DIY in-ear therapy device. I am curious about otoacoustic emission. Is this a real thing and is it why tinnitus is louder when you plug your ear canal?

    I got T and then I bought AirPods Pro. They help me a lot with T. A lot of different apps with sound therapy and in public transport or flight I can use noise reduction. Hearing device costs up to 3K and AirPods costs only 250 usd

    I'm afraid to use mine, but what about using them for sound protection from loud noises? I don't leave the house without ear plugs in case I go near a neighbor with a leaf blower or a screaming child, but it seems like the AirPods with noise cancellation would be helpful in these cases.

    Yess, this has been my experience as well. I get super uncomfortable with those in ear earbuds with silicone eartips, but those plastic ones called "half in ear" design ones like the original airpod don't bother me at all.

    I have a question:
    If a patient gets a "hearing-improvement" device (e.g., Airpod Pro) other than the expensive prescription hearing aid, and as a result is able to hear very well and is no longer socially isolated, would that prevent dementia as good (well?) as a $$$$ prescription hearing aid?

    Hey Doctor Ben! I bought a new AirPods Pro 2. Tinnitus occurred 7 months ago due to acoustic trauma. I continue to live with slight ringing. I want to use the noise cancellation feature of AirPods Pro to use in high-noise environments. Isn’t that the right choice?

    Great for all that however if you need hearing aids the only AirPods comparable are the older air pods that don’t need to go in the inner ear.

      Many people who experience tinnitus do not have any hearing loss on a standard audiogram. There is no need to panic. Follow up with your ENT to rule out any anatomical abnormalities so that you feel more confident that everything is ok. We would be happy to help you habituate to your tinnitus. Do not use wireless headphones. They all have an antenna and you put it straight near to your ears and brains. Use common sense. Do not put electricity near to your brains. I repeat. Do not put anything wireless near to your ears and brains. It's not good for you. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are bad things for Tinnitus sufferers. Same thing with watching TV or Laptop all day long. Sound Therapy is good for you though. But do not use wireless "things" if you are suffering from Tinnitus. Use the ones that has a wire or use seperate speakers or Phone speakers, but do not let it be near to your head or brains. Seriously. I'm not joking.

  • @Vozvegetal
    @Vozvegetal ปีที่แล้ว

    I used the old wired AirPods: those didn't have noise cancellation, so every time there was noise from engines or horns, I had to turn up the volume and that gave me tinnitus. Now, if I use the new AirPods Pro, with noise cancellation, I will no longer have to turn up the volume to "cover" those external noises. I will buy some and tell my experience.

      The doctor IS RIGHT. I used the AirPods 2 and ended up leaving them behind. Every time I used them I felt like my tinnitus was getting worse and worse. I lowered the volume and nothing. The ringing grew louder and I felt the sensation of being blocked. I must admit that they DO hurt. a shame. I'm back to my over ear headphones.

    • @takeuchi5760
      @takeuchi5760 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vozvegetal yeah I can't deal with in ear earphones either, but for me even headphones feel uncomfortable. What headphones do you use? How often? Do they cause any issues? Asking because I wanted to buy some. I appreciate your reply 👍🏼

    • @Vozvegetal

      @@takeuchi5760 Each case of tinnitus is different. All headphones end up hurting you. I use the Sony xm4, at a moderate volume. On my iPhone I have set the maximum volume to be 85db. I don't equalize anything. Every once in a while I end up with the loudest beep. But it is much less than when I used the airpods2. I use them every day, maximum one hour.
