The song is sometimes referred to in one of two ways, Hebrew + English translation pulled from elsewhere online: NIGUN ATIK / ZEMER ATIK Od nashuva el nigun atik Vehazemer yif veye'erav Od gavi'a meshumar nashik, nashik Alizei einayim velevav. Tovu, tovu ohalenu Ki machol hiftzi'a Tovi, tovu ohalenu Od nashuva el nigun atik. ANCIENT MELODY / ANCIENT SONG Again we shall turn to the ancient melody And the song shall give us pleasure We'll kiss the old, guarded glass With joyful eyes and heart. Our tents are good And the dance beckons Our tents are good Again we shall turn to the ancient melody.
@Eze Tanz - There are many types of Jews as a result of the Jewish diaspora including Sephardic, Ashkenazic, Mizrahi and Ethiopian Jews. The singer sounds like a Mizrahi Jew and they're the descendants of the local Jewish communities that had existed in the Middle East and North Africa from biblical times into the modern era. In short, nearly a million Jews have been persecuted out of Arab countries as a result of the 1948 war of independence and as a result have "Arabic sounding" accents when speaking Hebrew. 'Mizrahit' has become a popular genre in Israeli Music, check out artists like 'Eyal Golan'.
@@ezetanz thats not 100% true. Old hebrew sound most likely like this accent... modern hebrew is not realy diffrent despite the accents came from diaspora. Its not arabic at all. Just as like swedish is not danish despite they have same roots.... arabic and hebrew seperated many years ago...

Merveilleuse chanson hébraïque aux origines yéménites si je ne m'amuse
In my mind's eye, with this rendition of Nigun Atik, I can see the ancient peoples of Israel crouched around the campfire. Thanks.

The singer's pronunciation sounds like she's an Arab singing in Hebrew.

@@ilovemusic555 thank you for your explanation. Israel is so tiny and yet Israeli people are so diverse.
