In US news and current events today, protests have broken out across the country calling on justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and other Black people killed. And police appear to be attacking both protesters and reporters who are covering the George Floyd protests.
WCCO photojournalist Tom Aviles was shot with a rubber bullet, forced to the ground, and arrested before being freed hours later in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police fired pepper balls at a crew with WAVE 3 News in Louisville, Kentucky. Linda Tirado, a freelance photographer, says she is permanently blinded after being shot in the eye with a projectile during the protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

@@5avt0 If you are a police officer, you should always stay cool in these situations. If you get emotional and start firing at reporters and peaceful protestors you are unfit to be a police officer. There is plenty of video evidence like this that shows them very obviously and clearly escalating situations with needless violence and a general carelessness for the innocent people that want to document and peacefully protest. You serve the people, not the government's interests or even your own interests. That's how it's supposed to be, at least. I am european and pretty much watching this from an outsiders perspective and police detaining and injuring random people, ESPECIALLY press just wanting to document, would cause an absolute uproar. This is not sonething that should ever happen in a functioning democracy and a country built on freedom. Then again, the US hasn't stood for those values in a long time.

These journalists are acting surprised that they are being attacked; I would be surprised if they weren't. In 2002 when the US attacked Afghanistan, the US bombed the hotel where the journalists who were not assigned with them were staying; in other words, the journalists who were reporting the facts and not what they were being told to report like the assigned journalists were; and a few of them were killed in the bombing.
The spokesman for these journalists said that when they arrived in Afghanistan, they gave the US the coordinates of the hotel they were staying and yet it was still bombed; the US claimed that it was an accident. I was not surprised then neither am I now. This is how the world's hegemon behaves.
Suggestion to journalists for future events like these: you folks are going to have to wear protective gear like goggles, masks, helmets and maybe even bullet-proof vests.
Why do most western people act like they don't know this? That this is America's ideology and policy? I sometimes wonder if they're pretending, but most westerners act like the western world is the cradle of civilization! Why?

The police targeted the news reports because they didn't want it to be known, but there's a lot of protesters that recorded police abusing their power during the protests.

TheViperFan actually that is not completely true. I live in a small town. My sons are part Mexican and have Mexican features. My ( I call) son, who we took into our home & family, as a teenager, when he needed a family, is black. My best friend and most of my friends are black. My uncle and some cousins are black. I have been harassed a ton of times due to the fact that I am in public with my black friends, or that I am close friends with a family from India that are Muslim. A few years ago, my best friend who was black, now deceased, and I were riding around with my grandson showing him Christmas lights for the first time. My friend was a black man, me a white woman, stopped and harassed for just driving down a street and turning around because it was a dead end and no lights~ moving on to find more lights. That is just the ice berg, but you get my point. I see the hatred and racism first hand and even though I am a woman, I am quick to speak up and shut it down and I don’t give a rat’s butt who is acting that way. I call them out on the spot and don’t back down. I will not stand for any kind of racism. Everyone should be treated equally, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, PERIOD. Respect, compassion, dignity, and love.

All these examples show the so-called “bad apples” - but actually , they reveal the depth of oppression as an attitude in law enforcement.
Well, it all depends on how you look at it. If one bad Cop abuses his power, and the other so called good Cop just watches and does nothing about it then they are as accountable as the bad Cop.

It's worse than that. There are good officers, but the general cultural environment is to discourage good police officers from remaining. If qualified immunity wasn't so overly Broad maybe it would be possible to change things, but without that that's really nothing that even these protests can accomplish.
One case that stood out for me personally involved a veteran who became a police officer. There was an attempt at suicide by cop and this officer recognized the situation for what it was and was capable of deescalation. In the end he was fired because he didn't shoot first and ask questions later.
