The best way is get a good understanding of basic subdivisions - triplets, quintuplets, septuplets etc. All this can be found in Rhythm and Meter Patterns by Gary Chaffee or Polyrhythmic Possibilities by Henrique De Almeida. If you practice the exercises from either of these books with a metronome you will get a solid foundation. The stuff I play in this video is heavily dependent on the basics - how to fit 3/5/7etc notes in one quarter note. Once you devote the time to basics it’s easier to move on to more complicated stuff.
