For anyone wanting to know if this works - two of us built a small patio 2 years ago in the garden using this method, we did it in an afternoon (no experience in paving whatsoever) in the U.K. and two years later it’s perfectly fine! We’re so pleased with it and the rustic look we are building another one this year
Omg Thank u. My daughter just bought a house and cannot afford to hire someone to make a much needed patio out back so I’ve been searching the internet looking for something that we can do ourselves. THIS IS IT! Thank u so much.

Oh my goodness. This is AMAZING and looks so much easier than what I had been imagining! I have laid so many pathways, over and over, using sand - just to have weeds poking through the next year. This is perfect and I'm going to try it! Thank you for posting this!
I did the same and weeds kept growing in between the bricks. Now looking how the cement was applied, I am going to redo my driveway with this simple and cost less method 👍
Nice and easy approach - I like it. I've built a few patios using HPB (High Performance Bedding) as the base, with some interlock rails to bound them into one defined space. No sand, cement, nothing and they're rock solid.

Great video. I used this method about 22 years ago. I read about this method in a masonry book, pre-TH-cam. The brick walkway held up well for 10-15 years, then it developed cracks and weeds started growing through the cracks. I am now researching methods to repoint the brick walkway. Here is what I have found and what I have decided to do. Seems like the most popular method, outside of just using sand, is to use polymeric sand. However several professional landscapers have TH-cam videos warning that the polymeric sand only last 3-5 years and will need to be redone, that is not acceptable to me. Several of the landscapers have gone to epoxy resin based grouts, such as Easy Joint or Romex Rompox Easy. There are lots of positive reviews for these epoxy resin products, very easy to apply and sets up hard. The problem is cost, to re-grout my small 115 sf brick walkway will cost over 1200 USD, just in product. Additionally the epoxy resin products can be difficult to obtain. The 3rd way to repoint is to mix cement and sand and manually put the wet mixture into the joint. While inexpensive, this is a lot more effort than I was hoping for, plus it requires more skill than other methods. Then I ran across this video, only I have found which demonstrates the method I used 22 years ago. I think one of the important steps is to keep applying the water until it is no longer absorbed by the dry cement. I don't recall doing that 22 years ago. While cleaning out the old joints I found some of the cement did not get wet to form a hard concrete. Maybe if I can get all the dry cement wet it will last longer than 10-15 years. The one thing I did differently from this video is I poured 6 inch concrete slab under the bricks, as a result the bricks have been very stable. I would think this important if you plan to drive a vehicle on the pavers. Thanks for the video, it was a good solution for me 22 years ago and after watching this video, think I will use the method again.
Thank you so much for this!!! Just bought the materials today and I will be trying this method. We live in the desert where it almost never rains so I think it should be fine without having to lay the bricks on a gravel and sand base.

I want a rough and ready look and I’m going to do this. Definitely. Hardest but will be levelling the ground as it’s a large area. Thank you 🙏🏼

thank u for this easy method, never thought pouring cement first and then wet it. I was thinking mixing cement first and then fill the gaps...a million times thanks.
I wonder how well this lasts. The bricks here rest on raw dirt. Was it compacted? What effect of freeze thaw cycles? Usually extensive prep of the bed with gravel and sand plus compacting is done first. I assume that is necessary if you want a lasting result. Another thing is that concrete powder resists wetting. When the water is sprayed over the crevices, it won’t wet very deep. A lot of dry powder will remain below the surface. It might be better to mix the concrete first and squeegee it, now thoroughly mixed, into the crevices.
This looks so easy and awesome but it's the only place I've seen these instructions. I noticed in a comment below you mentioned it looks lovely 4 years later which is great to hear because I want to do this in my backyard with my husband. Have you noticed any weeds growing through anywhere? Are there any cracks that have formed and have any bricks moved at all? I know some people like the shaky brick look, but I want them to be PERFECT for a long time. Would you mind posting a video update on how it looks now? I would love to see how it looks now! Thanks!
I wonder how this would be vs how it’s usually done in the US. I have clay soil where I live I can’t see this working very well through all the freeze and thaw cycles. I might try this in part of my yard just to see.

just remember that if you crete it, you have no drainage in that area, so ensure you slope your paving away from the building and towards garden beds, lawn, or a drainage channel. I hate weeds too. I hate flooding more ;)
***** Agreed. Not weed so much but a bit of moss certainly adds character and charm to a paved area. But people see this as a "slipping hazard". I say "walk more carefully" :P
Then what is the point of doing it. I wanted to get rid of grass and weeds in a large area. I don't know about any of you, but I hate the area between the garden and the grass, so I put 3 widths of brick around the whole house front and backyard garden, plus the backyard garden area. I used that carpenters sand that is suppose to keep weeds at bay. I wish to hell I'd seen this video 20 years ago. Anyway, for the last 20 years it's taken me forever to weed wack, Pull weeds , you name it after I mow around the brick-it's caused me more work.in garden books they always suggest 3 layers of brick between garden and grass- this supposedly makes mowing easier [tires from one side lawn mower on brick] ,mow along without hassle of weed wacking and grass blowing back into yard. If I'd done it properly with cement instead of sand my life would be alot easier.
maebelleish clark just spray paving weeds. No point pulling them up as they spread their seed every time you do, making it worse. Just let them grow for a bit till most have leaves above ground, then spray on a good dry day when there's no rain forecast for a couple of days. Then when the weeds are brown and dead, either pull or just sweep them away, turning the broom upside down to snap them off.
I was scared after watching more than 10 so called DIY pavement videos. Thought I might just give up. But thank you lady! I saw your video right in time! The result is a little bit rough but meet my requirement. Good job!
Now this is the one! 😁👍🏾 VERY SIMPLE! & you’re correct… the hardest part will be getting those heavy bring. I was made an attempt. I wound up leaving everything right in that cart at homedepot and walked straight out the door! 😂 I’ll prepare for it next time.
Would it be better if you add a little cement underneath the bricks to (1) provide extra support (2) level the ground (3) keep the bricks from shifting too much? What do you think? Or better to use clay underneath?
Mike, great question! Here's a video of me doing a more in-depth project: th-cam.com/video/__9u2tBJXI0/w-d-xo.html The brick project was a quick and simple project, which has worked great for me these past 10 years almost. Here's the video of what it looked like years later: th-cam.com/video/Km8rXOsro20/w-d-xo.html
There is more preparation involved for a uniform look that will stand the test of time. I DIY the quick way as shown here (but I dont crete) and what I find is my paving is un-even and instantly looks dated, which means it instantly matches my house. So i like it :D
Question: What types of cement would work for this? (by just poring water over it...) it seems like a great idea and I would really like to try it but I've been to the store and there are many different types of cement. I already have the bricks, just need the right type of cement.

Its fantastic easy way to do a brick path and my wife was also duly impressed, with ME, thanks again!
@@BecomeInspired well from all the videos ive seen, the american way is to first dig down to a dept of 8 inches. Then bring in gravel and pour it all in. Then compact the whole thing. Then add a 3 inch layer of sand and then level the whole thing again. Then bring in the pavers. Assemble, line, make your cuts. Then compact again and finally add polymeric sand to fill in the gaps between the pavers. That's the american way. The mexican way is to add a little cement ontop of the soil and then simply place the pavers ontop 😆

A lot of dry powder will remain below the surface. awesome..! no one could have explained it so simply yet effectively..!!
Glad you liked it, enjoy!!
There is more preparation involved for a uniform look that will stand the test of time. I DIY the quick way as shown here (but I dont crete) and what I find is my paving is un-even and instantly looks dated, which means it instantly matches my house. So i like it :D
ha :)
Thanks Chris! I love the rustic look. Looks amazing 10 years later.
:D
@@BecomeInspired I LOVE your accent by the way. Where are you from? It's amazing :) Keep up the great work.
@@chriswinter5765 Thank you Chris!! I was raised in Lebanon, you are the best :)
What an easy and time saving technique on lay bricks. Those who are thinking of building a house or office can get the maximum benefit out of it.
This method wouldn't work to build any vertical walls, only flooring
Thanks!
Love it! Going to do this for my driveway, Thank you so much! Couldn't have done it better or made it easier
Makes me so happy. Thank you so much for viewing the bricks, please subscribe if you haven't yet!
Holy crap this looks super easy and is the exact thing I want to do around the edge of my backyard, thanks!
This is why I do what I do! Thanks Carla, enjoy the project!
Question:
What types of cement would work for this? (by just poring water over it...)
it seems like a great idea and I would really like to try it but I've been to the store and there are many different types of cement. I already have the bricks, just need the right type of cement.
nhershberg7 i linked my favorite kind in the video description for you.
that was a quick simple brick laying job well done by a woman at home , amazing talent
Thank you very much! Really appreciate hearing that!!
Great job. You make it look easy enough! :) Thanks for the inspiration.
Mikey Sal Great Mikey, that’s because it is!
Thank You. This looks very doable for someone with no brick laying experience to do.
Thanks Betty, glad you think so! Good luck on the project.
That just blew my mind....
Right on! Thank you Mukesh!
Hi, I love your video, and I hope to build my daughter a beautiful reading area that will be surrounded by plants using your method. Now that I found your video, in the next couple of weeks, that dream will finally come true. Thank you so much :)
Rita, what a beautiful gift to your daughter. Promise me to send photos when it’s done. That’s all the thanks I ask for!!
@@BecomeInspired I will have to write a note to remember to send you pictures. I really love the way that you just build your patio without making it a big deal with fancy tools and too much seriousness. You just do it :)
@@ritagumper103 That's right, simply do the things you want to do and you'll always find a way. Thanks for your kind words!
wow great video, practical and helpful - no tradie-speak! thanks so much!
Kindy Ecobaby My pleasure.
Hello, Ashley. We looked at several tutorials for laying bricks for a cellar entry. Yours was by far the most helpful. Thanks very much.
PS: I see that you are Armenian and I have numerous Armenian friends here in Boston and I support Armenian causes for them and all Armenians.
Glad it was helpful! Ron, thanks for your support. There's a lot going on in the world right now so your words are important to me.
Muito bonito, parabéns!!!
Muito obrigado por assistir, estou muito feliz que você tenha gostado dos meus vídeos, Sergio!
Thank you. I laid down a beautiful brick walkway because of your video
Wonderful, thanks for sharing this, Edward! Please send a photo when you can. I'd love it if you commented the link here so I can take a look 😊
That is very helpful. Thank you for your help. I never thought it could be easy.
Yes! Most people don't know how easy it is!
What goes underneath the bricks before u lay them and sweep concrete powder on it. As I will try your method but not sure what’s underneath thks
Hi Jo, all I've got underneath is the soil in my back yard.
Gurl friend that was great...
Thanks Sandra!
Well done ,better than most who call themselves builders on here. Joints are a bit big ,and you could have just just sand for the pointing .
Thanks so much! I appreciate the advice!
This is such a wonderful video! I would love to try it.
Noya Lee Please give it a shot.
Very good video, simple and straightforward.
Glad it was helpful!
i love the idea. Thank you. It saves me a lot of money.
Luv this lady and her video, things don't always have to be so darn hard! That is how I am going to lay my 2 ton's of brick!
That's what I was thinking
Thank you so much, I'm happy you enjoyed it! Please send photos of your work!
I'm so glad Luhan, thank you!!
Tried it and loved it! Thanks you so much I have been putting off doing this paving job for years saw your video and was inspired and it was sooo easy even did inside our chook pen after we finished the path. Its fantastic easy way to do a brick path and my wife was also duly impressed, with ME, thanks again!
Sean Swift my pleasure Sean!
Has it fallen apart yet because there isn’t any stone dust, concrete, clay or anything under it?
I made it too . just by using woodprix woodworking plans :)
Vasya Yatsenko hearing this a few times now. Hope this was helpful!
Good plans Vasya!
Thanks Nannette!
Thank you so much for showing how simple it is. I was so afraid to try it myself & was going to hire someone, now I'm going to do it myself. 😃
You're welcome, Laura! I'm glad you found this helpful. No need to hire anyone, this is definitely something you can enjoy on your own 😊

I’m doing this way today for my fire pit thank you for this video. 👍

I wish I could figure out what to do with the edges of my little brick shed, but I am going to buy concrete mix and do this!
Get creative! Send photos to me later.

Not very professional, but practical.
+mtorresg10 Fantastic!
Your mom’s not very professional.
Amazed at how level you got it, good job 👏
Looks great
Thanks!!
Why is the Mexican way so simple and straightforward but the American way is so complicated with the whole sub soil and filling the base?
What's the Mexican way and what's the American way?
@@BecomeInspired well from all the videos ive seen, the american way is to first dig down to a dept of 8 inches. Then bring in gravel and pour it all in. Then compact the whole thing. Then add a 3 inch layer of sand and then level the whole thing again. Then bring in the pavers. Assemble, line, make your cuts. Then compact again and finally add polymeric sand to fill in the gaps between the pavers. That's the american way. The mexican way is to add a little cement ontop of the soil and then simply place the pavers ontop 😆
@@hamidsabir2296 Pues, parece que soy una mujer mexicana!! =)
@@BecomeInspired i have no idea what you just said 😄
@@hamidsabir2296 Ha! I said, "Well then, it seems like I'm a Mexican woman!"
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tip with us.
I find it extremely helpful and very creative.
I am certainly happy you think so! Thank you so much for watching
You are the ultimate cheater...I love you.
Haha! You’re not trying if you’re not cheating 😊
Hi, just a question, if your laying it on soil what do you put underneath the bricks?
I just used the soil.
I laid a 4’x8’ brick pad for a sitting area in my garden today following your video. Very easy overall and looks nice. 👍
Nice work! I'm so happy you found some inspiration here, Dave. Enjoy your garden!!
how's it holding up?
Thank you I love how easy you made it .
You’re welcome 😊
Sou brasileira e me ajudou muito.
How many bags of cement did you use?
Awesome and simple, is there any need to mix sand with cement::::
You can if you want. I don't.
Im gonna do this the previous home owner just lay the brick now weeds grass growing in between ❤
Thanks for updating me!
