John Healy from Chesham - you may not be aware, but your views which were (for some inexplicable reason) used to illustrate an article on Marlow Bridge in the Bucks Free Press recently caused uproar in this beautiful town. We are genuinely baffled that the only member of the public quoted in the article was from CHESHAM, and is not directly affected by the bridge closure at all. The bridge closure continues to cause massive traffic chaos in the surrounding area, and the businesses in the High St are all suffering, with some at risk of closure. The bridge needs to open ASAP - that is the prevailing view of the LOCAL people.

Lovely video showing Marlow Bridge doing what bridges should do! John Healy you are famous here now after your ridiculous comments in the Bucks Free Press - I wouldn't come visiting anytime soon though, you might get lynched! (That's not a threat, I'm not going to do any lynching, just letting you know how much you have annoyed people!) Anyway, I'm just off to google Chesham and start involving myself in their local issues that I know nothing about, just for a laugh! ;-) I bet no-one will be stupid enough to quote me (a nonresident!) in your local paper though!

No closing it is not the answer! Just ask the shops that are being badly affected by its closure! Preventative measures are the answer!

John Healy of CHESHAM.1) what makes you an authority on bridges? And this one in particular? Are you part of the specialist team undertaking inspection? 2) You live in Chesham. You obviously have a bee in your bonnet about something. Why else would you seek out a lovely youtube video for a bridge in a town in which you do not live, and post a comment which isnt needed.. other than to keep spouting an opinion which simply doesnt count? ....

Sadly this beautiful bridge has been damaged by an inconsiderate lorry driver and is going to be subjected to a long closure whilst surveys are carried out followed by specialist repairs. Due to the constant pounding this bridge gets as witnessed by this film maybe it is time to make it so that only cyclists and pedestrians can go across it.

      One driver doesn't warrant closure.

Wow, what a lovely video, amazing to see all of the river traffic too. Funny though, I thought I was going to see the structure weakening before my eyes from your comment. There's no way this bridge can be closed. I live in Bourne End and the traffic in the mornings is now horrendous coming right back from Cookham bridge to the Bourne End train station. We need Marlow Bridge up and running as soon as possible.

Nice opinion to hold but you have not even begun to consider the negative impact this closure is already having on the businesses in Marlow. The closure is causing people to choose not to shop in Marlow because of the increased effort and distance that people have to travel. If the company, whose driver caused the damage to the bridge in the first place, wasn't paying for Marlow's Christmas lights this year it is debatable if the businesses in Marlow could afford to contribute as they usually do. The problem extends to the mornings and evenings on the A404 which is often now at standstill, extending journeys by anything from 30-50 minutes - even more at times. What concerns me most is that you do not appear to have considered the impact that this has on the locals and businesses here. Please involve yourself in matters relating to where you live instead of making naive comments about a subject that has no real impact on you.

The closure of the bridge is extremely unlikely to have any impact on whether people shop in Marlow or not. It is more than likely down to the type of shops that are there and the fact that not enough is done to attract people to the town. It needs a really concerted effort to publicise the place and encourage as many new retail businesses as possible to set up there. If the bridge was closed to traffic and made into a tourist attraction with seats on it so that people could sit and admire the river that would be a major bonus. As for traffic bottling up on the A404 and adding 30-50 minutes to journey times again this has nothing to do with the bridge closure but is due to too many vehicles on the roads nowadays especially at rush hour. This is something that happens everywhere and not just around Marlow. Lastly to say that "I should involve myself in matters relating to where I live instead of making naïve comments about a subject that has no real impact on me" is not only unbelievably rude but is also a short-sighted and narrow minded attitude which is a sure-fire way of alienating someone who has and indeed still does derive much pleasure from Marlow and would do whatever it takes to support the place.

Well you are too late with the snippet of wisdom as it has been proven to have had an impact on business.
