Hey, thanks for this video! I can confirm these rates and far above. Especially if you're good at setting retainers and defining projects by value vs. hourly. I have billed myself more as a data solutions architect so I would say I fit in that tier 4 space. Automation, actually, makes you more valuable if you can offer the full stack so to speak. Now, instead of needing 3 engineers, we can do the work with 1. So, in turn, if you're good and discussing the value prop vs. the hourly rate, you can get a higher rate.
Interesting video! I'm a data scientist who's moving in machine learning engineer roles. I have ~4 years experience with ML / Data Science. I'll be unemployed in a month, but I'm going to be taking my time to pick my next role. I'd like to dedicate some time to really develop high-quality software engineering skills and become more efficient at training and deploying models in a CI/CD/CT ML system. Anyways, I forgot about consulting. I might try it for a bit while I'm deciding where' I'd like to go for a longer term role.
Thank you for the video, super useful as always. The rates that you mentioned are specific for US based consultants or do you think could also be applied for foreign consultants serving developed markets?
