    I used to do this many years ago . My dad was a master watch and clockmaker in New Jersey and he taught me . So many memories. I just bought one of these and it needs to be fixed

      They sure have nice chimes.
      Are you going to fix the one you just bought yourself?

      @@jamesmartin5370 I don’t think so I have no more tools and I moved to Arizona many years ago . The movement looks clean but the pendulum like the one you showed is in very poor condition, and has broke the metal around it . I have an Ansonia also my husband’s grandparents gave him but that needs a mainspring. I wish I still had everything set up . I guess I will find a reputable clock maker and have them fixed . They are too wonderful to leave here in my home not working . Thanks for the videos

    Love how the chime is very quiet outside the case, but is loud inside. That proves the case really is a good resonator

    Really glad to have found your channel. I love clocks. What a delight to hear all of them ticking away in the background.
    Wish I were closer to your shop. It is getting harder and harder to find a really competent clockmaker in my area with all the retirements and younger folks not taking up the trade.

    There is a lubricant called Krytox made by DuPont, it contains no petroleum and may last much longer than oil. Originally aerospace stuff, comes in different viscosities. You might want to give it a try. I worked in a place where we built machinery that used pure oxygen and you couldn’t use petroleum based lubricants due to flammability, this what we used. Expensive but you only need a little.

    I just bought a W64 style movement in eBay, and I gotta say that it runs very well. Just oiled it up and cleaned it. And one day I forgot to charge my iWatch (had about 30%) so I attached some hands from a Kienzle mantle clock and took my school as a replacement and I couldn't stop looking at it. The amazing work that went into designing it is just awesome. I just love watching the escape wheel tick and wainting for the chime to go off. And I love your channnel, you make awesome videos.

    You gotta love seeing a high-quality piece of machinery get decades more lease on service life when all that was wrong was a little dirt and oxidized lubricant. Also you don't have to fuss with the case as a seventy-year-old patina has a value all it's own.

    Great video! I have a Junghans with a W64 movement. My dogs were playing and knocked it off the table. Now it is way out of beat! I can raise up one side and get it to run. Was wondering how to set the beat on this movement. I suspect that the movement need to be removed and the beat set on the bench but am not sure how to do it. Your help or anyone who can help me on how to do this would be most appreciated.

    • @jamesmartin5370
      @jamesmartin5370  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These Junghans have an adjustable verge on them.
      The pallet assembly of the verge is fit tight on the pallet shaft, there is an arm the pendulum leader rod goes through that is fit to this shaft with a slip clutch attached to it.
      You will need to rotate this arm either to the right or left and work the slip clutch back and forth, check beat each time until it is acceptable.

    • @rodfunk2460
      @rodfunk2460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesmartin5370 Thank you for your prompt reply. You did not confirm if the movement needs to be removed from the case or not to make this adjustment. In looking at it, it looks like that would be the only way to do the adjustment. Am I correct in my thinking?

    • @jamesmartin5370
      @jamesmartin5370  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rodfunk2460
      If you have access to the pendulum then no need to remove movement from case.
      Set the case so it is level.
      Then manually and gently overswing the pendulum and the slip clutch will probably slip and change the beat.
      It will take a little experimentation at first but eventually you will be able to get it into beat again.
      When it got bumped on its side the pendulum probably over swing and the clutch moved putting out of beat.
      If you aren't able to get the clutch to slip by moving the pendulum you may need to hold onto the lever the pendulum rod goes through and over swing it holding on to that lever.
      If that doesn't work then you will need to hold on to the pallet and over swing the pendulum at the same time.
