I almost summoned a pawn with glowing eyes as i thought it looked cool. Disaster avoided.
Edit: For comments implying you can't tell within the rift, you absolutely can. When you talk to a pawn it's eyes will be their created colour, however if you stand near them and orient the camera to their face, it's possible to see if their eyes are glowing. I've seen quite a few infected in the smaller rifts with limited selection. This is dependent on how far along their infection has progressed.

Yesterday my main pawn came back from adventures with other players, and said "There is a rumor that a strange plague raises among the pawns and turn them into madness", then the other pawn said "that can't be true, if that's true, we are in great danger". Such comments between the pawns (even mentioning of the plague) are epic 🤩

This is confirmed to not brick your save, if you rest or pass time for a week, essential NPC's and side quest NPC's will respawn in the towns so this isn't a permanent death with exception to a few NPC's that aren't THAT important overall, but in general this does not ruin your playthrough, it just creates a unique situation of being unable to turn in/start the quests until the NPC's respawn.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.
Whats the point of a dragons plague nuke if the npcs just respawn anyways?
Kind of takes all of the seriousness and gravity out of it.
I get not wanting to brick a save, but at the same time, having to deal with serious consequences in-game makes it feel so much more important.
Kind of like death/getting cursed in darksouls in a way.
Personally, I like the idea I saw other people pitching where instead of just an insta-kill dragon nuke, the pawn turns into a monster and becomes a boss fight.
That happening in the middle of the night, in town where npc deaths could happen ,would have been such a better way to introduce dragons plague.

Yeah, ever since I heard about Dragonsplague prior to release, I've been constantly on watch for signs of Dragonsplague. I knew from the start that two of the warning signs were the glowing red eyes and them being more combative/rebellious when you give them orders. The only symptom I wasn't aware of was them holding their head (but I likely would have picked up on that symptom very quickly as well). The instant I find that one of my Pawns has Dragonsplague, they're getting fed to the Brine ASAP. Not sure if making them forfeit cures Support Pawns or only your Main Pawn though.

I have some really important information about the plague for you guys, as someone who has over 70 hours in game by now and had at last 5 dragon plagued pawns - first of all you either get sick pawns from rift or after a dragon fight, not sure if drake can actually infest your pawn, of all the cases all seems to be from dragon. Another thing is with which im not sure what exacly happened but it looks like the diesese can actually go to random pawns you meet on the road too. Two times my sick pawns actually got cured and for sure they didnt pass the sickness to any other party member and im also 100% sure they were sick - its easy to see after you know the symptoms - they are checking their head for temperature (they have fiver), they spit a lot and a lot of times they dont listen to you at all. Dont throw your pawns off the bridges the moment you think they are sick. They not gonna ruin your game right away, it takes time for the plague to take effect so stop killing poor pawns. Thanks.

So I didn't realize this with dragon's plague. I haven't seen the cutscene yet so I can prevent it now. But I honestly thought dragon's plague just made drakes more likely to attack the town or you in general as the pawn unknowingly communicates information about you, because ever since I saw that pop up I've encountered a lot of dragons and the pawn with dragon's plague even lead me to one in an explicitly strange way, going off the main path and make me climb ledges tight into a drake. So maybe that's also a thing. If so there could be a mild benefit assuming you're capable of fighting and killing a drake and need the resources. I'll still get rid of it though

    • @dra6o0n
      @dra6o0n 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +70

It was in the first game as a 'possession' condition on your pawns, where Dragons catches them and mind controls them.
This time around it also infects them without you knowing. Because when a Drake (it's actually a dragon but whatever) grabs your pawn it's actually doing that same 'mind control' thing so if you let it happen, they are both infected, and become hostile to you. Just don't revive them and let them say down.
Also if the drake grabs the player, note how he stares at you for a bit then go "Wait this isn't a pawn!" and annoyingly slams you into the ground.

I would like this to happen, I actually prefer this to the current way the game handles it. Kind of the pawn treating you like a false Arisen, eventually becoming hostile. It could be quite personal, having your favourite pawn attack you. A boss battle of sorts.
Also wish there was a way to let the creator of the pawn know that this pawn has dragon's plague. Preventing/vaccinating a plague often needs to start with "patient zero", meaning the first victim of the illness. The devs could potentially do this by adding a warning/limitation to the pawn creation, reading something like: "This pawn is affected by dragon's plague. This can have lethal effects. Are you sure you want to make this pawn?" Or making it impossible to share the pawn until it has been cured of the plague.

Honestly I thought it was just a misdirection. That there would be something else that turn your pawns against you, and they talking about a plague was just foreshadowing that.
It seems like a really interesting mechanic. But yeah, the pawn turning evil could be done better.
Maybe sometime after all the symptoms manifest, the pawn starts attacking and killing npc's or even attacking you, so you have to kill them. That would make it cooler and would fit better as a dragon's dogma mechanic.

Thank you for this information. I do agree that dragons plague does seem to be much more overturned fhan it should, as it's results xan be catastrophic if a player does not know. (And many players are new). I also believe that it should be recognizable in the rift, especiallly the glowing red eyes, and fhat the pawns should be more vocal about it. Including the other pawns asking the pawn if they're okay. The day before tranformation especially, the pawn should be especially vocal and even verbally hostile towads the arisen, indicating something is desperately wrong with the pawn. I realize this makes things more avoidable, but that's the goal.
I also feel that the plague shouldn't just be a "Wham! Everyone around you is just dead", but moreso a shadow drake attack that you now have to battle.
It also shouldn't be only in rhe city, but also campsite in case a player want to trigger without it being in the city.
And there should be a way to treat this, other than..... Loved and cared about pawn being forced to drown, fall from a fatal height or getting killed in battle. There really should be a way to treat this.

I feel like this could be better if they implemented it in late game or ng+ or second play through after getting enough gold and experience and resources to make it easier to get wake stones but having the possibility to happen early game it might cause people to completely give up on the game because they have to micro manage it or because they don’t have enough resources at the time.
Imagine you just bought the game and progress enough early game and you decide to switch a pawn out and all of a sudden melve is completely wiped out and you have no idea how to fix it lol then you look it up online and it turns out you have to look for this very specific hidden creature or try to reload your save which might not even fix the issue because if your auto save and your rest save are after the town is wiped out then you have no choice but to try to get enough wake stones or find the sphinx.
It wouldn’t be a issue if the quest npcs didn’t break but I’ve read that the event can break quest npcs after you revive them so it’s literally just another way to pretty much brick your save and I’m pretty sure no one wants that, I feel like after a while it’ll get annoying quick.

So barely noticeable tells aside, this mechanic sounds very cool. It is an incentive to check up on your pawns, treat them like you would your favourite NPC, and as a leader making a tough call, take them out for the sake of the many. Gameplay wise it helps with experiencing new compositions as your best wizard has to be thrown into the brine.
Will agree though, they need better tells for when the pawn has it. Maybe a dark aura effect surrounding them, and their skin becomes scaley like a dragon.

TL:DR - Murderhobo pawns are dumb, turn them into a dragon instead
I think like you suggested would've been awesome - as those who've played the first game know the origins of the dragon, it'd be interesting to have dragonsplague tied to the creation of drakes where when a pawn is cursed with it, they transform into a drake themselves. Then in turn, by slaying the pawn-drake (within the city or town you resided in so it can potentially lead to casualties) there could be a punishment system (like if its your main you cant use them for 24 irl hrs as they recover from the plague or if its a borrowed pawn, your world loses access to the rift/pawns for 24 irl hrs so you cant borrow any new pawns, minus the one you slayed)
(edit) A system like this would make dragonsplague as a whole more immersive and interactive while also developing more on the lore. This also would provide players the option to farm dragon related content/conquer the plague for a price rather than always being forced to sacrifice their pawns to the brine...

Okay... can we just talk for a second about how much of a ballsy move this mechanic is on the part of the Dragon's Dogma team?
As someone who frequently plays D&D and other TTRPGs and has interacted with a lot of different players during that time, you realize that you really have to know the people at your table and what you can and can't get away with. Whether that be as the GM or as the player. There are certain plot hooks or role play decisions that really only work if you have the right people to play off. You really have to trust the people in your game for certain things to work and be appreciated.
Using that concept of "trust" in a ttrpg as a parallel, if DD2 were a D&D campaign (which it essentially is), I would NOT trust 90% of the people I've ever played with to roll with a mechanic like Dragonplague and actually appreciate it for what it is. It has the potential to be a really cool emergent gameplay element, but you really, REALLY need to have someone who is in that headspace to enjoy it.
So, yeah. While I'm not wild about some of the game's launch issues, I'm still loving this game so much. Most devs would not put THAT much trust in their players.

    • @obwolf
      @obwolf 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Except it’s half baked and needs much more development for it to be worth keeping in the game. @Antidepressiva1980 this is just a stupid mechanic that adds NOTHING to the game.
You dont get anything for preventing it. Its just something annoying.
There's no sense of risk or reward to it. There's nothing it provides other than something you need to add as a checklist.

i just wanna share ive had this happen twice in a row today while resting in the inn by Checkpoint Rest Town (the one next to the Oxcart that goes to Battahl). I was so annoyed that it killed everyone in the city but what i just discovered is that when I went to Vermund Funeral (where you revive NPCs) went to look for a body (did not actually choose anyone), and upon going back to Checkpoint Rest Town by oxcart from Vermund, everyone freaking came back to life. I confirmed i was able to do this twice today when dragonsplague happened. So I'm not sure if it only applies to Checkpoint Rest Town

The mechanic would be fun or at least interesting if an infected pawn killed one NPC per day of being infected and you wouldn’t know until your favourite NPC was missing. Killing an entire town randomly (and I do mean randomly because none of my pawns were showing symptoms) just isn’t fun. And the solution being completing a not fun quest either is just a massive middle finger and a lack of respect of the players time. I was in the middle of a quest and now I have to work my way through another just to fix this, ugh

The fact we cant start a new game is ridiculous.

My running theory was that the worse dragonsplague gets in a pawn, the closer they are to "awakening" into an independent person, as happens to Selene and your main pawn in the previous game. Apparently not.

@@SwordsmanMihawk326you can make a new game in dragons dogma 1 and you could also activate hard mode to start a new game without losing your progress.

@@SwordsmanMihawk326 yeah in dd1 you couldn't accidentally destroy the capital city and ruin your chances at making it to the next new game plus loop.
And to be honest the game doesn't loop very well since there's no way to increase the difficulty to match your strength earned in the first run.

If you let this happen then you really are oblivious.
And here I thought I was kinda stupid for not realizing I had to do something specific during the fight with the Red Dragon.
There is multiple ways to deal with the Dragon's Plague before it really becomes a problem.
Pawns eyes will start to glow red and they will start ignoring commands such as follow and like they mention themselves they will start to behave iratical and you will hear that in their voice lines.
I actually haven't let any Pawns go beyond this state, It is as simple as picking them up and throwing them.
After which they will say 'Are you dissapointed in me, Master?'
    You are good after that.

love the game.., most immersive quests since Skyrim (unless you let Pwans guide / spoil them..), fresh combat (manual targeting) and epic landscapes to explore, love it! GOTY already!
