  • BoatUS Magazine fishing editor Lenny Rudow takes a trip to AllTackle in Annapolis, Maryland, to help beginner anglers understand the difference between spinning reels and conventional reels. He gives you information that will help you decide which reel is right for you. He explains the pros and cons of each type, discusses the uses, and which is better for big game fish and why. Lenny breaks down conventional reel types like trolling and baitcasters. He explains how each handles the line and offers angling tips for learning to use each type. Can you troll with spinning reel though?

Sure you can! That said, it's generally done only with lighter gear such as swimbaits or lipped plugs. Some of the heavier tackle used for trolling (such as in-line planers) requires more specific tackle. Thanks for watching and for your question!

Use what makes you most comfortable, Jeffrey. You'll enjoy it more and hopefully catch more fish in the process!
