What a great voice from Milburn, old "Doc" from Gunsmoke. Such a poignant song for him to sing .. brought tears to my eyes. You're gone, but not forgotten, Milburn "Doc" Stone.
Oh my.I miss all of them. I watch every Gunsmoke rerun ever. I grew up with all of them, and even though I have every channel that my satellite TV has available, I still watch more Gunsmoke than anything. 🤠
Gunsmoke will always be my favorite program, My father who passed in 1972 absolutely loved this show, I remember watching episodes with him when they were first run back in the early 70s, I still watch daily, I have several recorded on my satellite especially the black and white episodes which are my favorite.
When I was a kid, The Rifleman was my favorite TV show. But I I grew into adulthood, Gunsmoke became my favorite, mainly because of James Arness, and really, the entire cast. And I actually think that, after purchasing the full twenty year box-set with every episode, it is my estimation that Millburn Stone was the best actor on the show......and also a very good singer I might add.
What a wonderful performance from this Kansas boy. God bless you, sir, and may you rest peacefully up in Heaven with your partners, Matt, Kitty, Chester, Festus, and the rest of the crew from Gunsmoke. And this loving message is to you from MILLIONS of your followers on this Valentine’s Day! Sent with love!!!
Doc was such a faithful friend to those he loved: Matt, Kitty, and Chester, and Festus. I believe he not only played the part, but lived it. A dear man.
This show aired on December 4, 1969. I never saw Milburn Stone in a musical role before this. Great job. Him and Ken Curtis was a great combination on Gunsmoke.
The song is a classic and there is a version of it perhaps on TH-cam that’s sung by famed Irish tenor John McCormack. “And now we are ancient and gray Maggie and the trials of life nearly done”. “Let us sing of the days that are gone Maggie when you and I were young”.
I always thought he was a excellent actor and he had a magnificent roll in Gun Smoke. And for the life of me I don't know how in the world I missed this episode of Dean Martin . Thank goodness for reruns. Thank you for sharing.
WOW.... One of America's GREATEST ACTORS (seriously), also a fine, natural and expressive singer. If only we could see a duet between Milburn and Ken Curtis..a fabulous singer in his own right. I wonder if such a performance exists?
Thank you for posting this! I miss the days of truly great entertainment. Dean and Milburn loved their audience, and we loved them. Milburn Stone and Dean Martin were the best! I feel fortunate to have childhood memories of these shows and to see them again just makes me feel good all over!
In the early years of Gunsmoke - when Doc would see Chester or Matt resting in front of the jail - you knew it was coming from Doc - Gunsmoke the early years was kind of a comedy too- Doc was a riot .
Wow, never knew Doc was a singer with Tommy Dorsey. Festus with Harry James. Was shocking enough to learn that Jim Nabors was such an incredible singer.
I always watched gunsmoke. Still do. But Doc Adams character name on the show was Galen. I found that out when he fell in love with the lady doctor that came to Dodge City.
What has happened to our actors there use to be real movie 🎥 stars 🌟 but now they are politicians who don’t have a clue what’s going on but they try to tell us how to live I just wish they would try and be movie stars 🌟
My Baby Girl Kira Lee. I sang to my Kira Lee until she went to sleep. Her mother was in tears with a smile on her face. Kira Lee was just a baby! She was my baby girl! And today she is my baby girl!
Man, everyone else and I knew Ken Curtis could sing since he had a fantastic voice and was classically trained, but "OLD DOC" ??? Holy smokes, the things we learn if we're not too dumb to pay attention!
Ok.....pretty much everyone could sing back then! And without auto tuning and overpowering music like now. This was amazing. Kind of like growing up, everything was reruns (raised up in the 2000's) so we watched Gunsmoke and Roy Rogers.....never linking Ken Curtis because he was so vastly diffrent in each! LOL. They just don't make real men like this anymore
