I have been using a true coolidor for years (an actual yeti style cooler as a humidor). It is so simple, and costs about the same as a nice one like that, if not less. Great video as always. Keep doing what you do and God bless you brother
Can you elaborate what you use to keep humidity and temp? What state in the US do you reside? Cool or warm region. Any things you do or don't do to keep your collection pristine? I've had dozens of Cubans go bad from beetles and I'm scared to start collecting again.. thanks brother!
I just wanted to send some love, man. I found you may be 3, 4 years ago on youtube and ever since it has been a pleasure watching your videos. The energy, the love for cigars, just great.
I talked to RWflame about 2 months ago. I told them if they want to sell their product to get it in the hands of Tim. They said they would look into it. I'm glad they got you this unit. It was too expensive for me, but as far as the market, you can't beat this unit in my opinion. Great video!
Damn, those things are expensive. I got the 300 count humidor on Wayfair during Christmas for $220. I threw 8 boveda packs in the bottom after seasoning and it’s held perfect for months.
I have got the bigger version of the anartic star shortly after watching this review. Mine is about the size of a average dishwashing machine. Had it about 2 years without any issues. I so far only had one real con with it even though it was minor but for me it was a prefrence was the paper filter wicks. I personally would like to replace them at least every year with a new one, but unfortunatly you cannot buy replacement ones and it is very hard to find ones that are even close to the right size. So you are pretty much at the mercy of cleaning them in distilled vineger and using them until you cant. Other than that it is a great unit. Two years later and I still enjoy the sticks I get out of it. Thanks for the review.
Love your videos, Tim. Would love to hear you talk about Cigar Lounge etiquette! As a noob, I'm interested in going to one but I fear being rude unintentionally in my ignorance. Thanks for your great work. My first order from CD should be here tomorrow! Very excited!
Tim, I have three questions for you . 1. When putting in boxes. Is it better tp remove the cellophane from them to allow more moister to get to the sticks ? 2. Flavored cigars, would you put them in with non-flavored cigars ? Or put them in Tuppadors by them self's ? 3. Can you disable the beeping ? My Refrigerator beeps, The dishwasher beeps at me as well as the washer and dryer. Like my wife. Oh Cost ...How much for this bad boy ?
Thanks for commenting Jeff. This one is going for $720 right now, which is expensive but not overtly expensive compared to the functionality and pricing of other competitive units. When putting in boxes, I typically don't remove the cello. I think cello offers a bunch of amazing benefits for your collection (th-cam.com/video/VAm7aRu_V78/w-d-xo.html). The only thing to consider is that more packaging slows the transmission of humidity. So I might remove cello if I received a box that was already over humidified. Otherwise I would leave everything in original packaging. When it comes ot flavors, I still recommend seperating them from the rest of the stash. Depending on how many infused cigars you have, tupperware is a great option. And as far as the beeping goes, I found no way to turn it off, but it only seems to beep when the door is left open for a prolonged period of time, so personally I'm not sure I would ever want to shut that off.
That name is so cool, not only clever but it’s literally cool like the Antarctic 😉 It’s instructions weren’t written by a first language English speaker? Of course not, it was written by a penguin 🐧
I am on my 4th NewAir 250 ct humidor. I am going back to a regular old cedar box, but for now all my cigars are in Tupperware. I have roughly 400 cigars so my wife is anxious to get her Tupperware back lol. Great video as always. CDN Rocks!!!!!!!
As in you've had to replace your NewAir 3 times?? Why are you going back to cedar box? How are you planning to store 400 cigars with cedar? Would you say an electronic humidor is worth it for a long term solution?
@@AnonymousGameWarden yes I replaced the unit 3 times. I bought a couple of small humidor towers on I think Amazon and the rest of my cigars are in Tupperware. I use Boveda packs for everything and so far so good.in my opinion and it is just my opinion a an electronic humidor just was not worth it for me.
Great review. I have the larger version and I have a question. Have you deciphered the instructions on calibrating the temp and humidity? I figured out the humidity. With the display locked, you hold both temp buttons down for 5 seconds and you can enter the humidity correction. I can not figure out the temp cal. I have emailed the company I purchased from but they were no help. there are very few reviews on this humidor and I'm at my whits end. The humidity and temperature were about 5F / 5% off from calibrated hygrometers. Also, just for fun put a hygrometer at the top and the bottom. With mine the bottom is about 2-3% higher RH and the humidity fans cycle instead of running on a PWM curve. This spikes the humidity every time the fans run. This is not seen in the unit display. Overall I like mine but it runs on the cold side since I can't calibrate the temp. I have it set to the max of 72 and it is about 67 by all other thermometers.
Yeah, the instructions seem to indicate that you'd calibrate the humidity in the same way as temp. I think I got lucky that this unit didn't need any calibration, and was accurate to within 1% of the extra hygrometer that I put in there. I wish I had a better answer for you. But as I communicate with the manufacturing company, I'll try to get some better info for you.
Tim, I need a bigger cigar humidor. I’m consider the Antarctic that you just reviewed or the Newair 840. Got about 500 plus cigars. Which one would you recommend? Have a Needone right now but not big enough. Any help and guidance will be appreciated.
Good evening Tim, I just purchased this same unit. In the instruction manual I read you’re suppose to clean the water tank once every 15 days to a month. Can you make a video showing how to clean the water tank please? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Heyyyy Buddy Hope you are well? So, I am from London, UK and have recently got in Premium Cigars, I am enjoying the experience in smoking these, I have purchased a small quantity and have put them into a Acrylic Cigar Jar with a Digital Hydrometer which holds upto 15 to 18 cigars at a push with a 69% 60G 2 Way Boveda Humipak. I am enjoying this experience so much so that i now want to grow my collection and have somewhere to store them. I am currently ookimg for a Digital Humidor Cabinet to start storing a large quantity, do you happen to knopw where i can purchase one from the UK or if there is a company in the US where they will ship to me, i am happy to pay the shipment costs. P.s I love your vibrant, energetic and fantastic content, love hoow you explain everything in detail which is easy to follow and understand. Furthermore i love your cigar recommendations and reviews, so much so that i have actually went out and purchaserd some to try. I would greatly appreciate your help with my new Hobby and Cigar Journey Look forward to your reply
Tim, great video but how does it perform with loose cigars. Also, how many loose cigars will it hold and If you tested the humidity in the cigars, did it maintain reasonable humidity in the individual cigars. Thanks.
Nice review. Couple questions: is that a lock in the center, lower portion of the door? And, can the humidity fan be removed so one could use Bovedas instead and use this space to store sticks?
Great review again Tim, please can you get your Son to test out the security features for a side review. Obviously switched off and with experts around to savagely get him out should the system somehow strategically go into lockdown if a child does get themselves inside 🤣🤣😉 To much for me at present though as I only have a handful of cigars, love the channel and hopefully My OLIVA sampler pack gets to me in Scotland soon to boost my collection. 👍🏼
Thanks for another great review!! Been looking at getting a "coolidor" for a few months now and this appears to be a decent alternative. Do you have any knowledge of or experience with Schmécké brand? The 400 Cigar Cooler Humidor popped up on Amazon during my search. Thanks!
You never test with unwrapped boxes or single sticks. I would think that would be the real test, is it holding humidity so your stick aren't dry or soggy.? And a quick question, would having the boxes with the lids closed not affect your sticks? It seems to me the boxes would absorb the humidity and it would take a while for the humidity to get through to the inside.
I like this humidor. I was gonna buy one. How much is this model, where does it come from? I have to wait until your testing is done bc I don't want a damaged unit. What temperature does it hold if the humidity level is 74 and reads 69? I'm looking at a big order but I have to get this right. With this I can preserve my more valued and occasionally smoked cigars in the coolidor and my daily cigars can be in a desktop acrylic tube.
This model is currently $720 (down from $1k). It's expensive, but I think it also offers qualities that other comparable units don't. The temperature and humidity are dialed in separately. As far as the humidity reading, there is a way to calibrate if the humidity reading is off. But in this video I set the humidity to 74 only for seasoning, and then reset it to 69% after it was ready to go. I found the hygrometer to be pretty accurate right out of the box.
@Cigars Daily okay, I missed that. The season at 74...I understand now. Thank you. It looks better and has the features I want. Its a subtle higher end design with a great price point.
Great video. The humidor looks really nice and it got great reviews online, but DAMN ITS EXPENSIVE lol. Guess that's why I haven't bought one yet. One day I'll get rid of all my humidors and Boveda packets hahahahaha.
Yeah, they used to be a lot more affordable (about $1 per cigar capacity, so a 350 cigar humidor was about $350), but new regulations from the DOE regarding thermoelectric motors have made them more expensive. NewAirs jumped in price like crazy when those regs were put in place.
@@CigarsDaily I here you. I actually didn't need one before because that didn't have that many cigars and I've only been smoking for a little over 5 years but my cigar collection has grown a bit. Should've bought it when it was $350 lol.
I just got this unit last week. Let it season at 74% humidity for 48 hours. Filled it with cigars and for passed 6 days the humidity is fluctuating from 66-75. I have it set at 69. Any ideas what’s wrong?
It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want the most affordable unit to get the job done, get the Audew (they don't heat in the winter and they require additional humidification). Between this one and NewAir, it depends on how smooth of an experience you want. Both have heating and cooling functions with internal humidifiers, and classy shelves. This unit is more affordable than NewAir, but the shelf sliding action isn't as smooth.
I live in Houston, we have very high humidity naturally, it is 85% humidity right now in the room that I keep my electric humidor as I type this. Can the humidor be seasoned with the door open for 24 hours using the humidity in the room?
I bought the 24" from R.W. Flame. Similar issues with temp calibration or lack there of. The temp and humidity are way off and when you adjust the humidity it doesn't convey the change on the screen (original number doesn't change). There can be up to 15% humidity variation from the bottom to the top of the humidor. There is also a defrost mode that kicks on every 3 to 4 hours on mine, this drives the humidity into the 80% for 30min periods. It is nearly impossible to establish balance with this humidor. There is also the drain tray on the back of the unit that I have to empty using a small tube and suction cup or the tray will overflow. You can't remove the tray. Nothing about this humidor works appropriately. I've read the instructions many times and have contacted the number on the instruction manual for assistance (they will only speak with you if you purchased your unit on amazon). R.W. Flame doesn't return your calls or emails. It's a 1000 buck paper weight that will ruin your sticks if left in too long. I hope this is just an issue with my humidor and not the standard quality control for their units because there will be many brothers of the leaf unhappy!
You with damage being normal is like me with drive thrus no one in line BUTT buy the time I get up and around to it there’s ALWAYS 4 or 5 cars that get in front Never fails lol 😝
I'll let you in on a little secret.... as of this year, you can order to South Dakota. In fact, you can go to cigars daily and place an order right now. 😉
Every time I've seasoned a humidor I've wiped the wooden parts with a new wet sponge dipped in distilled water. That was what I thought you were supposed to do... (instead of waiting days to allow wood to absorb moisture by itself)
From the experience I've had with these, manufacturers typically don't recommend wiping down the shelves. I think this has to do with how well they hold their humidity. Introducing too much can spike humidity and make it hard to get under control. However, if you have been wiping down the shelves with no issues, then I say do what works for you.
Wiping the shelves with damp cloths or sponges can cause the grain in the wood to raise, which can be abrasive to cigars. Be patient and let the system humidity the shelves.
This thing is an absolute turd. Bought it from the link provided in this video. The light doesn't work on opening and closing of the door, which wouldn't be an issue if it the rest of the machine worked properly. The humidity will spike and stay at 79 when set to 65 and will only drop temporarily if settings are changed. R.W.Flame nor anartic star will allow return or refund. Got beat $600.
