    I have a Denali 2003 6.0 with a stabilization system. It doesn't have a g80, which means it's permanent four-wheel drive with free differentials. This is very convenient on normal roads and is quite enough for the "off-road" that you showed. But in mud or deep snow, the Tahoe will certainly go much further)

    I think the Denali is similar to my 02 Escalade. I also lifted it 2" with keys and it rights great. For the price, you cant beat it and it gets to 90% of the camping sites

    Liked the “comparison” even though the Denali probably wasn’t designed for off-roading to the Tahoe level. Always appreciate your ideas. My 2002 Yukon XL build is including the Bilstein, Moog and torsion keys upgrade. I added Type-S license plate cameras in front and back. Regular driving helps with parking. I expect that when I encounter some off road situations the front camera will help in positioning when a “director” isn’t available 😉.

    Chevy made a full time 4x4 Tahoe for 04/05. So you get all wheel drive plus for low. I have one for ten years now, won't even get started on the mods I've done. There hard to find but when you look at the transfer case buttons all you have is traction control off the natural and four low.

      I have one like that too. 05 with the AWD/4Lo buttons. It does amazing in the snow. Mine also has the G80 locker too. I still wish I had the 4 Hi locked option, though.

    I'm in love with the color of that Tahoe, that thing looks fantastic. Between the two, the Tahoe looked a bit more composed, but it could just be the difference in tires. Looks like the Tahoe has a higher quality tire on it than the Denali. As much as I love the 6.0, I would probably pick the Tahoe for the option of low range and rear wheel drive. I imagine that one would get a slight fuel economy advantage with the Tahoe drive- train versus the Denali.

    We "overland" in our Denali XL. It will do everything you should be doing in a vehicle of this size 😁 That said, regearing to at least 4.88 gears would be a great improvement without that low range.

    Love the expose - a real world test. I am thinking of getting a Suburban, or maybe a Tahoe in the future to do more overland style travel. Currently I have an 03 Cat Eye Z-71 Silverado Extended cab with a 4Wheel poptop. I can't really go as extreme as I would like to go (even with the torsion keys for up front and heavier duty springs in the back) because the weight of the camper becomes a huge liability in sand and snow (or mud), but I have high and low range and that low range gets me up and down rough mountain roads. I'd prefer a 4Runner with all the bells and whistles because it can actually outperform a Jeep with solid axles (TRD though), but for room and comfort and decent reliability and for the price, I think the Tahoe or Suburban is the way to go - but for sure if I get one of those, a 3 inch professional lift must be done and that would be my reccomendation here. The Denali and Tahoe made it over some roiugh stuff, but I am sure it would be a lot easier and less nerve wracking with a good lift!

    Great review! I’ve got an 05 Sub, 5.3L with the Denali AWD system except mine has low range (and traction control switch). I wish it had more power. I sure like the rims on the Tahoe. Are those 17’s? Were they on the Z71 package? Mine also has oblong fog lights (not round). Not sure what transmission or rear axle, nor the gear ratio. How can I find that info?

      Round foglights are standard on the z71. Z71 should have the g80 locker as well. Only available with 3.73 rear gear in a 10 bolt.

    What are your thoughts on the 3.08 ratio? I have that on my 2016 Yukon which is great for highway use but I’m concerned it won’t be enough to get me on the trails. Have you done any of these vehicles with such high gearing? That is the only thing holding me back from turning this into an overland rig…

      Got the 07 Denali on 35" mud terrains. I have the g80 rear geared at 3.42 stock. I don't have much use for the 6th gear on the hwy, but gets me to all my camping sites here in the nw. Looking to go with 37s and upping my ring and pinion to 4.56 gears. Have a 3" body and a 3.5" leveling/suspension lift with trimmed fenders.

    Do you have the info on the lift for the Denali? I cannot find a lift kit that is compatible with Z55 suspension. I've talked to BDS, RC, Superlift, etc. and none of them have a kit for Denalis.

    So I live in the Eastern US and often hunt/camp on my farm. My biggest concern is deep clay/mud holes on the farm paths. I have always had vehicles with true low range, but am wondering if the AWD of the Yukon would be sufficient for for this? It would also be a daily driver. I work from home and only put about 7k miles a year on a car, max.
    I live in Eastern NC so snow really isn’t a concern for me either. Deep water from hurricane floods might be though.

    I don't think Denalis have the G80, or at least the ones I've seen. I'm going through a decision gate right now between a Denali or waiting for a Z71 Tahoe, and my understanding is the AWD system uses the traction control to mimic a locker/LSD.

    • @suboverland
      @suboverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some Denalis and Escalades came from the factory with the G80. You just have to check the rpo codes in glove box. In 05 or 06 they started having traction control and stabilitrak offered.

    It’s a Yukon vs Tahoe. Denali is just a top of the line trim package. Z71 is a off road package

    • @rudybowman9962
      @rudybowman9962 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Michael, thank you for your input. The reason why the Denali was highlighted here is because Denalis have the 6.0 and AWD. Traditional Yukon’s have the same 5.3 and a high/low range as the suburban/Tahoe/ Yukon XL. The video was an off road comparison of the 5.3 with high/low vs the 6.0 with AWD. More horse power with less gearing vs less horses with more gearing.
