from New Park Street Pulpit Volume 4, October 3, 1858 (Luke 18:13) 'Note the publican's confession; to whom was it presented? "God be merciful to me a sinner." Did the publican ever think about going to the priest to ask for mercy, and confessing his sins? The thought may have crossed his mind, but his sin was too great a weight upon his conscience to be relieved in any such way, so he very soon dismissed the idea. "No," saith he, "I feel that my sin is of such a character that none but God can take it away; and even if it were right for me to go and make the confession to my fellow creature, yet I should think it must be utterly unavailing in my case, for my disease is of such a nature, that none but an Almighty Physician ever can remove it." So he directs his confession and his prayer to one place, and to one alone-"God be merciful to me a sinner." And you will note in this confession to God, that it was secret:all that you can hear of his confession is just that one word-"a sinner." Do you suppose that was all he confessed? No, beloved, I believe that long before this, the publican had made a confession of all his sins privately, upon his knees in his own house before God. But now, in God's house, all he has to say for man to hear, is-"I am a sinner." And I counsel you, If ever you make a confession before man, let it be a general one but never a particular one. You ought to confess often to your fellow creatures, that you have been a sinner, but to tell to any man in what respect you have been a sinner, is but to sin over again, and to help your fellow creature to transgress. How filthy must be the soul of that priest who makes his ear a common sewer for the filth of other men's hearts. I cannot imagine even the devil to be more depraved, than the man who spends his time in sitting with his ear against the lips of men and women, who, if they do truly confess, must make him an adept in every vice, and school him in iniquities that he otherwise never could have known. Oh, I charge you never pollute your fellow creature; keep your sin to yourself, and to your God. He cannot be polluted by your iniquity; make a plain and full confession of it before him; but to your fellow creature, add nothing to the general confession-"I am a sinner!" I can see the hidden motive of manipulating others for sympathy. If we do not obey James 5:16 out of shame and pride, we miss out on the accountability others bring us, as uncomfortable and necessary as that is.
While I'm sure what Spurgeon is saying is wise in some cases, the majority of the time I think this is unwise. I understand you brother, but one thing that we can surely agree on that brother spurgeon said is, there are times when there are no words to explain what you are going through, when the tongue fails you, when only God can understand fully what you are going through. And though I have even guilty of sharing those moments, I can agree that no advise of a brother or sister gave me a relief like that which God provided through such moments❤️. I can say truly let’s let God use these moments for our shaping and sharpening ❤️ and well testify when we emerge on the other side of them ❤️
We are to “always” go to the LORD first. Often we depend too much on others and not enough on GOD. If we go to HIM first, we may not need to go to others.
Even Jesus has His inner circle of people - Peter, James, and John. They had the privilege of seeing Jesus through His most trying times, most notably while He was praying in agony in the garden of Gethsemane. We also ought to have our inner circle of people that we let in on our toughest struggles in life.

The Arminian no matter how well meaning is not your friend. Religious people devoid of the Holy Spirit whose gifts of the Spirit are false. Reformed theology has shown me the true gospel and the true Christ. Spiritual deadness, false signs and gifts are the way of Pharisaical legalistic Arminianism. God has saved me eternally! He rescued me, chose me out of hellish Arminianism. God loves me and is teaching me these truths that our good friend C.H. Spurgeon is saying in his message. 20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. Matthew 12:20.
I know arminianists and calivunistic reformed Christians and many of those in between either of these camps who understand what Spurgeon said and practice it, and vice versa. This is a profound truth that crosses theological borders. It's a truth that may grow in the soul of every true believer and usually does in true believers. Knowing Christ and communing with Him humbly, only requires belonging to Him and His new birth bringing that reality to the soul . I myself was a true brand new babe in Christ when I was converted at 19 years old. My conversations with Him in prayer, my confessions and longings were as hidden and deep as could be. He was my first love as He should be for every believer. I didn't need a theological degree to talk to God. He didn't require it. I don't think Spurgeon would say differently. Jesus says "come to me, you who are heavily burdened and you will find rest for your souls." " Take of the water of life freely." Theology definitely has it place to help us grow up into Christ. It can enrich our understanding. But it doesn't bring the soul to life. It doesn't keep the soul alive. The only fence that matters here is you either know Jesus Christ as your savior, or you do not.
What is sad is that these words are wonderful but whoever wrote it should not say it is Spurgeon if it is not. Dont lose the credibility of a good piece.

What is sad is that these words are wonderful but whoever wrote it should not say it is Spurgeon if it is not. Dont lose the credibility of a good piece.
Could you share the precise source of this text, please ?
Please consider placing adverts at the end so as not to disrupt the flow. Thank you.
These ads are so annoying
Does this really from Spurgeon? Could you please tell us the origin of the message? From which book or sermon.
What book or sermon is this from? I’d love to read it later.
Never share second hand smoke.
will you be primarily using spurgeon? good stuff
I was thinking... a tooth brush...hygiene reasons😅
Saved by the grace of God IF you believe IS a contradiction.
What speech is this from? Do you have the title please? I can't seem to find it.
Then we might ask ,does one shave a glass of ice and drink the flower it over the arise of a beautiful sunset?
What are the 5 things? We don't have wifi, and my data is low 📱📶
😂😂😂
This most probably is AI generated, and wasn't actually a real sermon!
I have a book with a collection of Spurgeon's sermons. Do you thin AI can speak like this on its own? The voice could be but the words and message proceed from outside AI. In the wise words of John Lennox "the first thing we need to know about Artificial Intelligence is that it is artificial."
@@MichaelBrown-ds5ll is the content from this video same as one of Spurgeon's sermons and just the voice is AI? My point is I've seen channels like these, that use prominent people's names, but the content of the video was never addressed by the speakers themselves.. mostly they have content which attracts a modern audience
I wonder if this is not more of that phoney Spurgeon snappy one liner stuff...after the last one ...definitely not Spurgeon. I have decided to give it a miss.
If this was what Surgeon actually wrote, then I got to wonder if he didn't have serious issues and justified covering up by all this self-convincing. The word says confess your sins that you may be healed, not in full graphic, but name it and then be healed.
It was for the sick amo get the flock.. Not a doctrine to all believers to follow.
5 things never share with anyone: birth name, birth date, birth place, eye color, size… „well we never said you have to, we just made life really hard for anyone who doesn‘t share it“ - your loving freedom giving not at all control freak government, asking for proof of citizenship via some paid actor
Isn’t it counsel in this context?
If it’s Spurgeon why a short sermonette?
His sermons are 30-45 minutes long
Doesn’t seem right
I am ashamed to say that I am christian not because of Jesus but the way most Christians act I'm not Christian God gave me a new heart and I act nothing like them 💔 definitely set apart???
Most of the best people are Christian. You should check again; sounds like you’re believing the world and the propaganda. Is this based on who youve met or on some bs on tv?
@@ibperson7765 there is an old saying about those that assume.... I have thrown my TV out a long time ago for unsocial behavior because of how they act and I see very much of this in the churches of today I am very well traveled all over the Western USA looking at God's churches and a place to fit in
God clearly stated that it is not good for man to be alone. genesis 2:18. Charles Spurgeon himself was a married man, rich and smoked cigars on a regular basis.
I once heard Steve Lawson say the basically the same thing.
Celebrity preacher Spurgeon who loved to smoke cigars. Bleaaàh
Do you spurn sound, biblical teaching because he smoked cigars?
Probably the most powerful preacher of the past 800 years.
Nah, this is AI.
Greed?
Um are these ACTUAL sermons from Spurgeon?
I think it's an AI sermon, which is highly concerning.
Whether this is actually Spurgeon or not I don’t know, but these are wise words
What scriptures are these based on. When did Charles Spurgeon give this talk? Where?
