    The l1 pro 8 has the benefit of having the tone match and the bass on the l1 pro 8 can be adjusted at the eq so yes you can control the highs and low individually.

    Can you please make a video of the back of this system that would give a good look at the how the whole system is set up? I had everything except the PreSonus when I saw this video. I purchased the PreSonus but can't seem to get the connections right. Thanks fo any help anyone can give. It is greatly appreciated.

    The new S1Pro+ (not available when this video was made) has a “Sub EQ” out setting. So now instead of having to run through SUB1 first you can run Bluetooth through the S1Pro+ and run a single XLR cable from the S1Pro l+ to Sub1.

    Love your videos, I’m a musician that’s always looking for the most quality in small rigs. Wondering if you had any input on the Yamaha stage pass 200. I’ve been using the Bose L1 pro plus and personally I think it lacks a little more punch. I’ve been using it as a monitor, and I feel that this Yamaha might be the answer. Wondering if you had any input on this at all thanks again for the videos.

      My current set up is the RCF515 top and Bose 2 sub for the larger ones. Also pair 2 QSC k8, just depending on the set up. For my small rigs, I usually use my Fishman performer with a QSC.

      Glad you enjoy the channel. I've never heard the Yasmaha 200. Specs look good but the deal breaker for me is the fact that it doesn't have a user replaceable battery. Has got almost zero feedback on the Acoustic Guitar Forum. I don't know why? My favorite in this category is the EV Everse 8. Definitely more punch/clarity then the Bose Plus.

    The downside of the dual Pro 8's is weight / bulk and limited flexibility. Also, while the subs are the same size - they are only 240 watts each versus the 480 watts of the Sub 1. The dual S1 Pro / Sub 1 system can be much more flexible with the ability to use each S1 independently - not to mention the battery power... I'm still sold on two S1 pros with a Sub 1 as the ultimate micro system available. Nice video as always! Very informative!!

    • @bestproaudio4255
      @bestproaudio4255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One more thing - two S1 pros support stereo bluetooth... The L1 systems don't (Bose really needs to fix this issue IMHO)... I do like your Presonus solution for a number of reasons, but you can also plug a single battery powered bluetooth receiver directly into the stereo inputs on the Sub 1 and use two XLR cables (one for each S1). I'm using FIIO BTR5 with the XLR adapter. On Stage BC2000 also works well. The downside is the lack of easy tactile control via the Presonus unit. Upside - fewer cables, cleaner setup.

      I am about to make my Micro system. I'm going to have two S1 Pros along with a Rockville RBG10 Subwoofer. It weighs 37 lbs so almost the same weight as the Bose Sub 1. It only cost $179.99 on eBay or Amazon. I would love to go with the Sub 1, I just feel spending $900+ on a Sub for a micro system that I would only use on maybe 1 or 2 small gigs a year is steep. No doubt the high fidelity and clean sound in the lows out of a Sub1 is going to Amazing, but I have a feeling this Sub I am looking at will get the same jobs done just fine.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends? Sub1 will have much better bass with separate gain control for bass, but Pro8 will be louder with better 180 degree dispersion. Pro8 smoother Hifi midrange, S1Pro cleaner high end. Pro8 has new App with better EQ. Comes down to your application and personal taste in sound signature?

    Bill, thanks for the video, very informative. I just have one question, how long does your power station last powering the Bose Sub1? I think the Bose S1 has an 8 hour run time depending on the volume.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since making that video I have upgraded to the Ecoflow Pro. On two separate occasions the Sub1 shut down at high volumes using the 400 watt Expert power. Ecoflow rated at 720wH but figure 80% efficiency so that puts you at 576wH. 576wH divided by 194 max watts= 3 hours. 194 watts was the watts pulled at max volume before clipping. If you play at normal volumes say 90dB or less it will pull much less watts, maybe 60-85 watts which would =7 to 10 hours.

      Cable connection:
      All you need is one cable. From the line out of the S1Pro into a Channel input of sub. Make sure the cable is TRS 1/4" to TRS 1/4" or 1/4" TRS to XLR male. I like the XLR cable better because it has a more secure connection. If you plan on putting the sub between the two speakers, get a 10-15 foot cable.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamest4189 There's two ways of doing this: Your friend is talking about going from a mixer into the sub, then into the input of the S1Pro. This way will give you more max volume and cleaner/less distortion at max. One problem- you will lose Bluetooth and will not be able to connect the two speakers wirelessly. To tell you the truth I don't hear much difference and I think the S1Pros at 100dB are plenty loud through Bluetooth. Yes, go out from the line out of the S1Pro into the sub if you want to retain Bluetooth.

      If you are not using the Bluetooth controller the set up is simple: TRS 1/4" to TRS 1/4" balanced cable. From S1Pro line out to Sub1 input. I wouldn't recommend the Bluetooth Controller which adds complexity and adds little if anything to the sound. I demonstrated that in the video as an experiment that works but would not recommend.

    And I want to know exactly what frequencies the LINE OUT EQ sends a signal at if I turn on the HPF in white, and at what frequency if I hold down 4s and turn on the HPF in green??? (green, I guess from 150Hz up, but how much exactly at HPF in white???

      After many attempts to set up the Bose equipment, I must admit that I am satisfied. First of all, you cannot increase the volume on the speakers too much if you use an external mixer - the bass setting at 1 p.m. is quite sufficient for two Bose S1 Pro. For me the best setting is LINE IN EQ to LPF, and line out EQ to HPF (white). I don't like setting HPF to green, what about you?

      Thanks, glad you like the videos. Sorry I have never added mics to a sub. Good question for the Bose Facebook Forum. Adding a mixer should give you the missing gain you are lacking from the S1Pro but of course that defeats the purpose of a portable rig like the S1.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz

      Waste of money and power for 95% of S1Pro users. To blend properly Sub2 has to be turned down to 9:30, wasted gain/headroom. S1Pros clip red at 100dB/Sub2 130db, power that can't be used.
      The other 5% who could use it: Sub2 goes down to 37Hz so sounds great playing DJ backing tracks with super lows Rap/House.
      Live percussion/drums/bass guitar also sound noticeably better with that power and low end kick. Also any kind of outdoor gig I would go with the Sub2.

      Sub1 has much more bass than the Pro8. Sub1 goes down lower to 40Hz, Pro8 45Hz. Sub1 will play louder up to 123dB, Pro8 118dB Pro8 will play cleaner on the high end and has the great App to adjust from a distance. Pro8 will play much louder up to 118dB compared to the S1s 103dB. Yes I do. Sub1 is next level. I like to tell people the Sub1 is the lightest/smallest REAL subwoofer. Fishman adds very nice low mids and Hifi like bass. On the other hand a REAL subwoofer hits you in the chest! The Fishman doesn't do that. Fishman does go down to 30Hz vs 40Hz of the Bose, which would reproduce recorded Hifi tracks better at lower volumes. Bose Sub1 max 124dB vs Fishman 113dB. 11 dB difference is huge! Think of the Fishman like a very good Hifi floor standing speaker with solid bass. Add a dedicated subwoofer to those towers makes a night and day difference!

      The Sub1 is a REAL subwoofer that kicks hard! It will add the missing lows and improve the midrange. Adding the Sub1 turns the very good S1Pro into an excellent full range almost Hi-fi performance! Plus you can high pass the S1Pro to play louder. Not sure if it would be 3dB gain?
      My choice: S1Pro over Sub1!

    Hello would you recommend to use the bose sub2 with 2 s1pro?

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and No
      Yes if you don't mind the very large difference in size, weight, and money. If you are a musician who plays bass or drums through the Sub2 the extra lows 37Hz of the Sub2 is very noticeable. Also if you are playing back heavy bass EDM/Hip hop type tracks. Have you seen this video? th-cam.com/video/gldnIZV7hjA/w-d-xo.html One plus I have found, if you want to run either on external power, the Sub2 doesn't require more power. I run both easily on a 600 watt Ecoflow Pro.
      On the other hand even with my Pro32 I never play the Sub2 over 11:00 because anything higher starts to overpower and muddy up the column. I do like to have that extra power in reserve for future larger gigs - especially outside!

    I use two Bose S1’s on a dual mount yoke on a single, crank-up speaker tripod along with a single Bose Sub1. I use an external mixer, obviously for more inputs and better EQ control. While this system I have is definitely more money (approx $2k) I believe it’s way more power, greater dispersion and clarity, and more flexibility than any single column array I’ve reviewed. My entire rig including all necessary cables, stands, tip jar, mixer, and accessories fit on one cart for easy load in/out. I’ve never ran out of “gas” with this system in the medium sized venues I gig at. It’s loud and more importantly, clear and highly intelligible to the entire audience. While the JBL MkII is totally portable with full battery operation, I can add a portable Jackman AC power pack to power my sub and all accessories for over 10 hours. As much as I like the idea of an “all-in-one” solution, I really haven’t heard such a system out-perform my rig.

    • @WWeiss-nv5vz
      @WWeiss-nv5vz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How many watts do you run the Sub1 on external power? Probably too late now that you spent $2k a HUGE step up from your rig is the BosePro32/Sub1in power, throw, and overall sound quality - highs and mids. Of course more $$$. Your system is excellent and would be my second choice. Putting your S1s on speaker stands about 10 feet apart would improve your sound.

      @@WWeiss-nv5vz Being a sound engineer for 25+ years, the best way to cover a typical bar area is a point source. When you divide a PA to two separate points it creates holes. You sacrifice the sound in the center unless you’re far enough from the audience (not practical in most bars) and the two separate L/R rig creates weird comb filtering depending on the audience seating position. If you get a point source high and behind you you achieve a better alignment as well as a built in (post) monitor (you’re aware of your volume) and you eliminate “hot spots” to the left and right.
      Obviously, in larger and wider venues my rig wouldn’t be as effective. What I do in those scenarios is to build a center Bose F1 behind me (over my head) with a single sub and then matrix (with delay) a L/R rig with two S1’s on poles over two powered subs. I attach band lights to those (dual purpose) and the L/R is shaded appropriately to not overpower close seating. Cheers!

    Hoping for recommendations from experience with this and other similar speakers…I am looking for a solid active dj speaker to be used in 2 primary ways: First, as a monitor speaker while doing live gigs (I use 1-2 QSC KW122’s as my mains), as well as using it as a home “studio” monitor while practicing and preparing for gigs at home (currently I use one of my KW122’s as my monitor speaker at home)…
    Next usage would be just for mobile purposes where I won’t be djing, just playing my mixes off my phone connecting via Bluetooth…Back yard BBQ’s, Pool Parties, Boat, Beach etc…All outdoors, typically under 40 people. And to do that all without the hassle of bringing my mixdeck, MacBook and the much heavier KW122’s…well that’s what I’m looking for.
    My main boxes to be checked are:
    -Small and light, easy to lug around and easy to store…Quality made and can handle the wear and tear from mobile usage over time…
    -Battery Life…I won’t typically do gigs over 5 hours unless it’s big $$$…So I doubt I will ever need to worry about battery life as long as it’s over 8 hours, reliably of course…I’m also assuming that I can plug the speaker into an outlet and it will charge the battery also while playing music on it? When you play it plugged in, does it also charge the battery?
    Bluetooth Functionality and Durability…while doing live gigs I will have it hardwired to the mixdeck, but for all other applications, I would prefer to be using the Bluetooth Function and just let the mixes roll right from my phone while I get to chill finally…
    -Obviously sound quality is the most important feature of any speaker. I primarily play Deep House Remixed/Hip Hip old and new, reggae-ton and Old School Legendary Miami Booty Music (Uncle Luke, Uncle Al etc)…I’m from Miami so they’re legendary to me anyway 😂🙌…All that should be fine for when I play it via Bluetooth to my phone with this speaker…
    Questions regarding Live Gigs:
    Is there any delay from your main speaker to this one when using this as a monitor speaker?
    Would I run an XLR from my mixdeck to my main PA, then run either an XLR or RCA cable from my main PA to this Bose speaker?
    Or would I go mixdeck to Bose speaker (monitor use only), then from Bose speaker to KW122 mains via XLR?
    Thank you, I appreciate any solid Intel…sorry for the book 😂

      I have one QSC KW122 over a QSC K Sub as my mobile electronic drum amplification. Love it! In a word Bose S1 Pro. Many pros use it as a monitor. Can't beat the portability- 15lbs, great Bluetooth, and battery. If you want more power Mackie Thump Go is almost 2x louder but very lean without a subwoofer. Bose S1 Pro is smoother, more Hifi but will clip sooner. Not sure of Mackie reliability because it just came out, while S1Pro has a great record and support from Bose. None of these small battery/Bluetooth speakers will make you happy with Booty Music! Add the smallest sub and you will realize what you are missing. If you want everything including bass spend $1,200 for the new JBL MK2, then you will be happy! th-cam.com/video/AqCn-3cFfiE/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Bill! Love your videos. I currently have a pair of Bose L1 Compacts and a Fishman SA Sub that I run in stereo (outboard mixer > Fishman SA Sub > L1 Compacts). I think this combo sounds great as the Fishman really rounds out the bottom end of the Compacts. But after watching your videos and reading comments here and elsewhere, I'm curious about the Bose Sub1. I believe you used to own this same Fishman sub, but now that you have the Bose Sub1, is the Bose that much better? In addition to more power, I'm thinking there might be more synergy by staying all Bose? Especially if the Sub1 crossover blends better with the L1 Compacts, as with the Fishman I'm always wondering what sounds best (80hz? 100hz? 125hz?). If you can let me know your thoughts I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

In a live situation in front of an audience I do not depend on Bluetooth. Yes, in that situation I agree with you, I want the best sound and the most headroom possible.
