Just had this happen to my Subaru Forester. Thankfully it was an easy at-home fix. Unscrew your gas cap, let it sit unhooked for 1 minute, then screw back on until it clicks. Then turn on engine. We just had an oil change and other maintenance so I thought it was that. However my spouse recently went on a trip and although I tightened the gas cap the first go 'round, I didn't let it sit for one minute unhooked. Tried that after seeing that recommendation on another video and that did the trick.
Yes. This usually happens after you let your wife or girlfriend use the car and fuel it up. Typically will scare the hell out of the owner but it’s just caused by incompetent gas cap screwing.
Just took my 2019 Subaru up for the same issue, it turns out it is the engine coolant bypass valve. Thankfully it is covered under the power train warranty. Or another name electronic thermostat. Hope this helps
Thermo control valve issue. Seems to be very common on the 2019 Forester. I just had it happen to mine at 76K miles, even though its out of warranty the dealer got the repairs approved at no cost to me. Not sure who exactly they had to speak to, but I am assuming Subaru corporate is aware of this issue and probably covering it.
May 1, 2024: Yesterday, I experienced the same issue with my 2019 Forester (purchased in 2021). After reading these and other posts, I tried the gas cap, just to be sure. Nothing changed. This morning, I took it to the Subaru dealership. Upon inspection, they found the same problems listed here. I didn’t have an appointment, so they worked me in around appointments. I was there from 8:15 am until 1:55 pm. Long wait, BUT, the warranty had been extended and ALL this work WAS COVERED. I paid NOTHING! The guy even test drove my car to be sure everything was ok.
Forester 2019 engine died and car stopped while driving, in the middle of the road. With 24k miles, bought new, meticulously dealer maintained. Already happened twice in a three week period. Dealer apparently cannot find cause. Car back again at Lynne’s Subaru in NJ. Extremely disappointed

I just had that issue less than a week ago on my 2020. OBD said P000A code, which can be a few things. Mine happened to be dirty oil (?) because the dealership didn't change the oil when they sold it to me. Good times. Just under 30,000 miles. You CAN delete the code if you have the OBD scanner, and then all the lights will behave.
Started happening with my 2020 Sport 2 days ago. It's going to the dealer on Friday so wish me luck! This is my husband's 8th Subaru so we'll see what happens when they try and charge us to repair it.
I have a 2020 forester and for a week I am having the same issue and Subaru dealer told me to keep driving and tighten the fuel tank cap. Been driving for a week now and this issue doesn't seem to go away. I called the dealership and they said it may take a few driving cycles but it is safe to drive the car. I am not sure what to do.
I just got this problem and sent the car to service, the inspector said the thermal control valve needs a replacement, it was common problem in the 2019,2020 forester.
I am having very similar problem. 2020 outback with 42,500 miles on it (basically brand new), only had engine oil pan replaced and basic oil filter change / fluid maintenance. Also, makes a very weird noise occasionally when putting car into reverse or when going under 5mph in drive which started a few months ago. It seems to be driving fine except for all the dashboard light indicators being on and that weird grinding noise. I'm afraid the dealership will charge me over $1,000 to fix said problems. Anyone else have similar problems and/or solutions? Would very much appreciate any support. Thank you.

My trusted mechanic warned me about buying Subarus.. and now I see he was totally right. I had a myriad of issues and the latest is that all the dash lights go on usually when I am parking or switching gears. My car looks like a Christmas tree. I was reading online and thought this was a battery or alternator issue. I replaced the battery and the alternator is in good condition but the issue persists. I also recently changed the transmission fluid. I don't know what's wrong or what to do. I'm gonna take the car again to another mechanic on Monday. Any tips or advice would be truly appreciated😊😊😊
My 2019 forester just did this today as well. I hardly drive and keep it in tip top shape. Did you figure out the cause? Thank you for posting this as I was worried about catalytic converter theft since that it rampant in our area
It was something to do with a part that regulates engine temperature. Something at that time I looked up and found out it's something that happens with much higher mileage than what I had. Also the radio, power windows, tire sensory, and fuel saver shut off engine thing were always having problems. I recently traded in my 2019 Forester for a Honda Passport and dropped Paul Miller all together
A little over a thousands dollars but it was only 15 to 20 miles past the warranty expiration. The service tech went to bat for us, so it didn't cost anything other than a service fee of 50.00 dollars. Don't buy a 2019 model.
yes i bough a 2017 forester from them in Feb 3 years ago, here comes the summer June gets to 80f and the ac gets loud in the way to the beach and quits on me , long story short ac compressor dies , look online and this foresters have a nag for that , is a warranty job , Paul miller battle me to the bitter end for it , then i got to call subaro for this, call them they said so i did , i complaint to Subaru about them . So Subaru pick 90% of the 3500us of the repair cost, paul miller was not happy with me . Dude get rid of it anyway you can , trade it burn it whatever but never buy from paul miller again ok that is what i did . I got my next Subaru from someone else and new , so i wont have to deal with someones problems, dealers do not fix or recondition their used trade cars or certified used.

I use to own a Honda Accord before and I was extremely satisfied with, just that it was manual and my left leg was really getting tired of the clutch.
@@Hotrod8677 mine just happened 2021 Forester 29000.00 miles under warranty but they claim it is back ordered could take at least 2 months they said its ok for me to drive. bpught my car in union nj and moved down to south carolina . just a pain in the butty dealing with it
@@stan-wv3go mine just did it. No warranty for me at 43k miles. Which was my fault. What i noticed with mine was, coolant level was low. I reset it by disconnecting battery terminals. Did an oil change topped off the coolant. Heat cycled, drove around a good 2 hours. Looked like a half inch of coolant was added during my drive and no overheat no coolant loss.
I grew up nj I sure hope u get it fixed
did you fix? where in NJ and how much?
Just bought it 2 years ago?😅
Good catch, but that makes even worse to be having car troubles on something so new.
i just had the same issue happen tonight, the blue light is on for me and the eyesight is off and check engine light is on also the (S) is blinking…. i was just sitting in my car when it turned on. also it wont rev passed 4,000RPM when driving. we had a really bad storm the other day and maybe something was damaged because the whole car was forzen in ice. when i turn the heat on, it wont blow extreamly hot air anymore. Does anyone know what i can do?? please help
First, is your car still under warranty?
Second, do you use the dealership from where you bought the car for maintenance?
What year is the model?
you have to push symbols buttom and hold on until the light is off.
This is literally happening to my lady Subaru right now the exact same lights everything, it just happened not more than 10 seconds ago And she’s only had to car for a year she bought it from the Subaru dealership Hiawatha Boulevard Syracuse New York anybody know what it is is it the cooling fan or is it a computer chip and having the car for only a year are we going to be responsible to have to fix that or would the dealership be responsible
Just started in my 2020 under 20k miles
Same issue just happened today. What was it in your case?
Something that was technically still covered but would of cost probably 2000 if I remember correctly. The 2019 forester was a lemon year for sure.
Looking back into some paperwork it was the temperature control valve.
I am super disappointed with my stupid Subaru.
I bought it new and it started giving me problems early on..
I have a 2017 Subaru forester and
always take the car to get maintenance.
Just happened for me. 2019 Subaru forester
@@Hotrod8677 how much did it cost you to fix that?
how did u fix that? i am in NJ
What does the yellow I mean?
I just pushed the AVH button behind the parking button and it fixed it
We have the same problem
Desconecta los bornes de la batería por 20 segundos. Se borrara
Yo trate eso, incluso compre una nueva bateria y nada😢
Was it expensive?
A little over a thousands dollars but it was only 15 to 20 miles past the warranty expiration. The service tech went to bat for us, so it didn't cost anything other than a service fee of 50.00 dollars.
Don't buy a 2019 model.
It was happened to me twice already
Sorry to hear that. Was it covered the first time?
yes i bough a 2017 forester from them in Feb 3 years ago, here comes the summer June gets to 80f and the ac gets loud in the way to the beach and quits on me , long story short ac compressor dies , look online and this foresters have a nag for that , is a warranty job , Paul miller battle me to the bitter end for it , then i got to call subaro for this, call them they said so i did , i complaint to Subaru about them .
Replace your battery.
2021 outback same problem. New cars are Garbage
I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble with your outback. Yes, car manufacturers are just dumping out crap just to produce profits.
I switched over to Honda and have been very happy for the last 5 months.
Thank you for watching my video and commenting. Be safe and good luck.
