@jorodd Certainly John wasn't a trained musician, he was an artistic genius ..... and YES i always wondered how John came up with those chromatic chords in the beginning of If I fell ...that was so clever and beautiful ...played by Mancini, who was a melody craftsman too, you see how the song would have been arranged if written by a studied musician with that sophisticated harmony....and guess what ....I like better the way John did it.

Like the arrangement but wished just once, that Hank would have repeated the verse at least once, before going into the bridge. After playing each verse once, he goes right into the bridge. Oh well, just my opinion.
On the recent 2023 Red Album release they did not include IF I FELL -- one of the most beautiful two part vocal harmonies ever recorded - John and Paul's voices blend perfectly there

John or Paul would write a song and then the other would make suggestions for improvement. They were both great song writers. Paul was the melody master while John was more experimental and adventurous. They were a great team. In this case 1+1=4
