You need a lot of research to do the foreign pipe hookup in realistic mode. Realistic mode is what sets this game apart to a higher level from all others.
On realistic, with research ON, I start with laying out town with as many accomidations as possible and build one or 2 hotels. Their income is amazing! Then I build clothing factories with imports of fabric. Also very good ROI. All the while I build universities and pump out research. Initially need to import quite a few professors. That results in a fairly large town. With trash recycling and so on... By then I have opened a few industries and my next city is either oil or iron. (Production of iron significantly decrease building amd expansion costs! And exports are also a money maker!) After iron i can focus on rail, and ither industries.
In the default maps you never find oil near a boarder post, at least I have not as of yet. I assume it is a modded map? I am playing on Hard --> Realistic Mode (With researching turned on) --> Hard mode I think 1,500,000 RUB. FYI --> it is not a big deal to look for resources without using the map, to me (Even if it is a pain in the rear) that is the fun part, the challenge of everything in Realistic mode, it forces you to think about your Layout, from the town and you're industries, it forces you to budget and adjust constructions sites to prioritize, move your construction vehicles It forces you to think about your next move! Instead of just plopping things down. It also forces you to make use and think about how you can use every component in the game. Example, planning out a water system that goes from source to filtration to a water tower and ensuring you have enough pressure (Pumping stations) to make sure your water is flowing properly. My Setup : I have oil setup, but jacked up all my pipes output input so I have a bunch pipes that do nothing LMAO!! (But hey it looks cool)(Eventually I will get a demolition setup) However I eventually got to the point where I am making about 10K a month, with Trucks. Working on building out my train network(s) but first I need wood (Tired of purchasing it from the customs house) , started a logging and wood processing town so I don't have to purchase any more wood, will then build out my Train to export the oil. (Wood tracks for now) I also have a Small town with about 425 people. Then on to gravel processing! (Long way to go for that) Did it all in about 2 years.
I too am very lazy and hate dealing with money problems in this game, if you want to make the original set up with the oil even more efficient without workers, you can add wind turbines so you don't have to import power.

Good job

Love seeing different games 😊

How’s your job doing?
yeah but look this only works if you got it all researched.
👎👎 "I'm playing on realistic, but I don't think we need to look for oil"
Downvote and never subscribe! 👎👎
In other words "man plays game different to me, I will now throw my toys out of the pram in protest!"
"Don't believe that you should have to research where oil is in the 1980s." is what set you off?
