You get in shape quickly and start learning some new things, but you have to work a lot to get your old skill back. Perhaps it feels like you're better, but ask some friends who kept playing and they will tell you that you're noticeably worse and much more inconsistent.

How about instead of lowering the timer from 10 to 3 minutes on CTP maps for everyone, we just do it for the competitive gamemode and the peeps that play it, this would also give valve another reason to make unranked competitive mode so that people can get introduced with it. Don't get me wrong, i love competitive, but 3 minutes on a CTF map in a pub setting are nothing. They are just gone. People are playing engineer in pubs on those maps in droves for Christ Sake. Unless some advantage is delivered on a stalemate to the team with more capped points (for example the team with most capped points gets a speed boost at the start of the round, or they get the last cap point and get their forward spawn with it), this change will only result in more stalemates, at least in pubs. Competitive integrity is good, but let's take it slower.
