Here in the USA we have a chain of stores that provide second hand clothes to most communities. Goodwill is a charity store chain that can have some hidden treasures in clothing.
There are stores in communities that are very poor and also in the very rich cities. I have shopped in the stores in both areas, but let me tell you the rich areas have clothes that were donated by people of much greater means than my family has.
I have found some amazing slacks and suit jackets that were HANDMADE bespoke at a local shop that charged thousands of dollars to make. I spent less than $200 and not only was I able to get those fantastic clothes for me but also for the other 5 members of my family.

If I ever meet Prince William, the first thing I’ll talk to him about is the abomination of combining sartorial dark items with a pair of white casual sneakers.

@@danielmanor605 There's definitely a clash of formality in his outfit there. A DB jacket usually suggests a more formal look, the shirt looks fine, I'm not sure if the trousers are just chinos. They don't look very dressy to me. Perhaps white wasn't the best color for the trainers.

I have a hand me down Tweed Blazer & Flatcap that belonged to my grandad that I wear regularly, they must be 60 - 70 years old now and have no plans to replace them, but despite most of my clothing being bought new originally, they were bought with longevity in mind, especially for the last 10 years, my brogue boots & shoes I intend to re-sole when worn out due to the Good Year Welt, my Barbour jacket re-Waxed, I have worn the same black Wool Overcoat for the last 25 years every winter (just been pressed back into service), because its made to an excellent quality, it still wears like a new(ish) garment and will easily be with me for the rest of my life and beyond, I have just repaired a pair of jeans that I wear regularly for Dog walking, pretty much the only time I wear jeans now, I normally throw jeans when they are done, but this occasion, I felt the need to patch them and continue to use them as my dog apparel, clothes I don't mind getting beat up that are suitable for all 4 seasons. Same story with watches, for the last 8 years, the 5 or so watches I have bought, baring damage are pretty much the only 5 watches wear on rotation and the watches I intend to see me through my remainder, with the exception of my grail watch I have yet to buy (got to look forward to something ;)

I recently bought (on Ebay) a brand new pair of Allen Edmonds Shell Cordovan oxblood shoes, complete with a Rendenbach sole and made from Horween Leather.
I could not believe my luck : for a mere 20 EUR/16 GBP - they sell new for something like 1200 EUR/900 GBP. Of course I can't afford a pair of new ones, but for 20 EUR...

I put this advice into practice after watching the video today. I wanted to add a Navy Pea Coat to my outerwear to battle the Canadian winter but couldn't justify the price vs quality available at the mall. I went to a Thrift Store and purchased a vintage one in mint condition for $9.50. Better quality, warmer, and light on the wallet!

24 hours ago, I was wearing a pre-owned blue OCBD, a pre-owned navy silk knit tie, a pre-owned silk pocket square, pre-owned gray flannel pants, pre-owned black loafers, and a pre-owned diver on a pre-owned NATO strap. Willi and me know the value of a penny (or a pence... whatever you call them over there)

Actually it's you and your channel that turned me to vintage. First were few pairs of very nice British shoes and then 6 tweed jackets. Two of them were made of Harris tweed made by tailoring houses that went busted 30 and 15 years ago respectively.
All of the vintage items were in immaculate condition - the shoes were worn once-twice and the coats were really taken good care of.
And to be honest - all of them costed just a fraction as of new.

Oh yes - I have about ~40 hat's an caps.... before I found vinted recently by advice from, well, here it was "only" ~30...
Especially caps but also lovely hats, a 1950s deluxe homburg in a laughably great condition, worth ~500+ € and I got it for less than 40... or great hats the hat-bands of which had been frayed to Piercea for a couple of €... I have an arsenal of (equally vintage) bands an regularly exchange those even in brand new hats because I like the mid-20th century broad ones more than the "austerity-sized" modern ones...

I'm awaiting delivery of a unworn, 1970s tweed herringbone blazer that I bought from eBay. I'm really looking forward to it as I was looking for a herringbone or check blazer in brown, either tweed or flannel with working buttons and that combination is hard to find. Then this one popped up on my search, and then the guy offered a good price and I had to bite. I'll report back once I have received it and have tried it on.

So I received the jacket and it is from Fioravanti in New York who were a bespoke tailor, although they are now defunct. The jacket was sold to a gentleman who presumably never wore it sometime in October 1979 if the handwritten label on the inside of the inner breast pocket is accurate. The material is quite thicker and heavier than modern fabric and from my brief wearing of it is a little tight in the back if I try to bear hug myself and the sleeves are just a tad short but since almost every jacket I've ever bought had sleeves too long so I don't need them shortened. I don't know what a tailor could do with this jacket has maybe about the only thing would be to try to let out the back but that would depend on how much material is there. Perhaps it would be too effort for too little gain in this case. I can wear it fine with no alterations if need be. I just have to wear shorts whose sleeves are a bit shorter.

I think about 70% of my wardrobe is secondhand and far better for it. Lots of Brooks Brothers shirts, ties, and trousers. Purchased for pennies on the dollar. Some of these were new with tags on. Gifts never used? Who knows, who cares. Also, a pair of AE dress boots were tried on for size and were never worn by the previous owner, purchased for 30% of new. This kind of shopping can be like a treasure hunt. Way better than the mall.

I have all kinds of garments that I would have liked to have, but would never pay full price. I have bought two wool topcoats on EBay, one of cashmere. I might wear them three or four times a year. But when the weather is just right, no other outer garment is comparable.
It helps being almost an exact 40 Regular, 7 1/4 hat size, and 11D (10D UK).
Growing up I liked sport coats with elbow patches, something impossible to find outside vintage stores. Now I own two tweed sport coats with patches, that must be 30 years old in great condition. I can guess the age because they were made for fine men’s stores that went out of business in the 1990s.

We need to do this for the environment. Having said this let it be known the British Royal Family directly profited (plundered even) from the poor during their 200+ colonial rule leaving colonised countries in abject poverty and they haven’t done enough to even acknowledge this loot.

To be fair, the Royal Family have merely been figure heads since 1649 (when they were removed as absolute rulers and became constitutional monarchs) it is the governments of the following eras that were responsible for any acts, not the Kings & Queens.
Their function today is almost entirely ceremonial and to act as a sort of living flag, to galvanise national interest and to represent the country at global events.

Buying good quality secondhand hand gear depends on where you live. In the UK it would be easier to find quality menswear especially shoes. In Australia where I live most of the menswear I find in charity shops are just awful. And if you find a decent pair of shoes you should forthwith quickly buy a lottery ticket for they are as rare as hen’s teeth. Quality men’s shoes is not a strong point in the land down under.

I almost always wear secondhand jackets, coats and suits - they are often much better made, from natural materials, and, if for example it’s a vintage tweed jacket for instance, isn’t encouraging child labour exploitation or fast fashion. However, I can’t help thinking that William’s recent outing wearing vintage clothes was an instance of virtue signalling. At the very least he should be wearing English brands, and given his high-profile, should be an envoy for the promotion of the UK’s clothing and footwear brands around the world.

For show or for blow? Cheap trick vs. actual sustainable use... Traveling from the UK to South Africa and back places a far greater burden on the environment than supporting British tailors by wearing a nicely tailored jacket and a necktie. I like the RF and the PoW and just wish for his wife to get well again and help him back on track from the slippery slope of an ungroomed and unkept appearance.

I only wear thrifted clothes, I’m 70 now and this is a lifestyle choice. This summer I picked up a vintage 70’s Belstaff canvas waxed motorcycle jacket that was patched and repaired with cool brand patches sewn on. It was worn by a motorcyclist who rode all over Canada, what a piece of history.

I am not impressed that an un-earned and inherited wealth and status individual should be admired for false pretenses concerning recycling and frugality, it's downright laughable as is the concept of 'royalty' !

Men's 2nd hand clothes are generally not worth wearing unless you are destitute and are the norm and at a minimum amount compared to women's 2nd hand clothes where I live, even on line they are generally cheap material but I keep looking in hope.
