The cities of Hamilton and Fairfield have been going round and round wit CSX about blocking main roads. They have recently started making it a habit to block my route home a couple of times a week. Two very awesome CSX trains at once! One mixed freight and one auto rack train with double stack cars. The old train station is very cool to Jaw Tooth! Awesome catch!
The plans for the station is to relocate it at the corner of Third and Sycamore in Symmes Park. That is about a block away from where it sits now. It is a historical relic. Several Presidents made Whistle Stop campaign stops here including Abraham Lincoln. So they want to preserve the station and turn it into a museum and retail of course. Everything in Hamilton has to have a retail component the days.
Lincoln gave a speech in a doorway of the original section to crowd gathered. I worked on a damaged upper sandstone cornice that had been pulled down when low hanging electric wires snagged on a rail car. Several meetings about the importance to save it. That lower section has a fantastic interior and Art Deco style. It’s a gem and needs saved.
Everybody is acting like CSX just stopped the train to piss people off or just because they can. But we don’t know why they stopped. It could have been a safety issue. Something may have broke. There are many possibilities. But with this new precision railroading all Class I’s are doing now, all of these trains are going to get longer.

Reminds me of that summer I spent up north in the bush as a Junior Ranger. We used to go into town from our camp every Sunday, crossing the main railway line to get there. One Sunday we reached the railway crossing and there was a lineup of 50 cars in front of us waiting. Apparently they were shunting the train to unhook a bunch of cars and had to do so across the highway we were on. Four hours later there were about 100 cars behind us waiting. Remember, this was up north in the deep bush trying to get to a town of 1500 people. Crazy. I have no idea where all those cars even came from.
Whenever long trains like that one stop & then proceed to go, the sound of the slack in the couplers make that domino falling sound but with bangings. The further away from the locomotive, the harder & louder the pull is whenever the train starts moving.
That is cool when that happens. This train also rolled back a little bit when it stopped. Its cool when they do that on a grade also. Thanks for watching Kevin!
We have had a lot of the same thing here in Jacksonville, Florida where we are a hub of activity, docks and shipping, power plants and three train companies, CSX, FEC and Amtrak. There is a by-law that states a train driver can be fined for long obstruction of streets, but it is never policed and never ticketed.
The railroads probably don't care if they have to pay a fine when they are moving multi millions of dollars worth of stuff, I guess. Their alternatives are expensive also

Great video. I’ve been a subscriber for about 5 years and I can tell you that your camerawork has become awesome. Speaking of trains coming to a stop. Years ago, when I lived in Jersey. There was a branch of the B&O called the Staten Island Rapid Transit. It ran from the CNJ tracks in Cranford, NJ to northern Staten Island. The freight trains were long and the line ran through Roselle and Linden on the way to New York. Long story short, the trains would stop in Roselle for some unknown reason and cut the town in two. On one occasion they were stopped for nearly an hour one morning. People couldn’t get to work, school buses couldn’t get the kids to school. Finally, someone called the police they came out and ticketed the engineer. Over the next few weeks the police paid close attention to the morning train and every time they stopped for over 10 minutes they were ticketed. Sadly, the line is now out of service. There was talk of making it a commuter line to bring people to St. George, Staten Island and the ferry to Manhattan. It was sad watching the decay in Hamilton. When the SIRT went out of service, whatever was left of local manufacturing died. People don’t realize that railroads are the lifeblood of the American economy and the most energy efficient way to move goods. Keep up the good work. I’m recommending you to my friends. I push you as a great local historian to my non rail fan friends. Want to see you crack 100,000 subs. Take care and Happy Father’s Day.
Sad to see that the old station building is derelict. Stations are one of the biggest differences between railways in the US and in the UK. Here in the UK there are always elevated platforms at about 45 inches above ground and passengers never climb steps to get into railway carriages but step across on the level. I see that the New York Subway platforms are of very similar in height.

Nice shot with that old railroad building, must have been really interesting in its hay day !! That bridge was neat too but odd how it curved around those houses.
Stopping such a long train for 15 minutes causes a huge delay on several streets at once. However, another way of looking at it would be how much more traffic would there have to be if there was no train and all of this stuff had to be transported on the road. That would impact traffic delays. The train with 135 wagons most of them double stacked would require over 250 separate vehicles to move the same stuff by road.

On the second train in the video, you were smart to hug the old train station, as that very long train passed. Had you been looking the other way, you would have not seen or heard a train coming on the track closest to you.

Come on everyone let's get jaw tooth to 100 thousand subscribers. Awesome video again.
Yes, that would be really cool! Thanks Celio!
@@JawTooth the best part of your videos is always, but wait there's more.
On the second train in the video, you were smart to hug the old train station, as that very long train passed. Had you been looking the other way, you would have not seen or heard a train coming on the track closest to you.
I don't take any chances. I figure a train can go on any track at any time. It reminds me of that viral video of the guy at Harpers Ferry who almost got hit by the train on the closest track when he wasn't paying attention. I will never let that happen!
@@JawTooth Very smart. I saw that video. He was inches from being a spot on that lead locomotive. When shooting where their are more than one track running parallel, it's best to do what you did. Just figure a train will come along on the other track or tracks.
My cousin gave the engineer a ticket for blocking the crossings in Navasota, Texas. I am sure some people had a good laugh over that.
That’s one way of stopping motorists jumping the level crossing
Yes, they put a stop to the whole city. lol
Jaw Tooth yeah exactly jaw
The freight part of depot probably dates from 1855-1870, the pssrnger part first decade of 20th Century. Has this been preserved?
Trains block crossings in my town all the time. If they sit for too long the city fines the Railroad. But the railroad doesn't care and they still block crossings and pay the fines. I don't mind it though, I like watching the trains. Stopped or moving.
awesome JT, i bet when the train stop. people called him everything except the son of God. but when it was movingevery one when YEA!!! lol a anither awesome catch son!!
That is one LONG ASS TRAIN.
Nice! Say, won't you ask CSX can you get a cab view ride with a locomotive engineer through a town????? That'll be sweet!!!!!
Nice video
Thanks Mark!
Impressive video.I was just waiting for you to jump on one of those grain cars when the train started moving.Stay safe out there Brian.
That would be fun , maybe some day I will do that again. Lol. No, probably not though
I love csx
Is CSX a badly run railroad there locomotives look run down and the city I used ti live in would fine and ticket the railroads if they blocked the crossings more than 20 minutes
CSX has experimented with 200 car freights - and it plays hell with traffic , as you can see......
We don't experiment with 200 cars we run them all the time most are empty cars.
so Brian,time here:01:21. goodmorning,lol.many greetings from Tony,the lockdown is gone.at last,was very happy,and dringking koffie with bastogne koek.lol.
This track is also used by Amtrak. It's the only track in this part of Ohio that is used by Amtrak. My favorite track in Ohio!
I rode the 611 steam train through Hamilton in the late 80s and I want to ride Amtrak to Chicago someday
@@JawTooth Awesome! I want to take Amtrak to either Chicago or DC someday.
@@JawTooth They've been talking about putting an Amtrak stop in Oxford for almost a decade. Hope it happens someday. I think that old B&O station in Hamilton also was used as a stop by Amtrak until 2006.
I understand at least you're a dog owner.......happy fathers day & thanks for the trains!
Thanks, you too!
@@JawTooth happy fathers day
Possibly waited for a red signal somewhere down the tracks.
Awesome video Jawtooth! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video!
Awesome. How does the enginner know where the end of the train is? From UK near Stonehenge
What keeps Hamilton, Ohio, running? No mill. The trains were awesome!
I don't know but it does have a really nice park area near downtown where they have concerts. I have been all over that city and its back roads and there are poverty areas and then there are really nice areas. I like the trains though. lol
Jaw Tooth I thought it was a lovely city! Our Mills here are gone, but downtown Oregon City has gone upscale; many nice restaurants, pubs, and shops. Trains run through town on a viaduct. Kinda fun when you are under the viaduct waiting for the light to change at rush hour!
Incredible footage!
Glad you enjoyed it
