G bugles man, they're built different. Literally, it's much easier to play loud on a G bugle than it is a Bb marching horn. On the flipside, it's harder to actually sound good on a G bugle than it is a Bb instrument, so when a G bugle line (like The Commandant's Own) is in tune, it's quite impressive. This isn't a "G bugles good, Bb instruments bad" post, but after coming into possession of an old bugle and comparing it to its Bb marching counterpart, I can really see why a G bugle line is so much louder. If I tried to play the same dynamic on the bugle and the Bb horn, I'd be putting a lot more effort into producing that level of sound on the Bb horn.

Dude you do know these guys have decades of skill over any drum corps. I'm sick and tired of hearing "The Marine DBC is the best" no duh. Everyone marching has been in music for a minimum of 15 years and have dedicated their lives to music. While regular corps members have to deal with college, kids jobs ECT. I commend the regular kids over the Marines because at least the kids are adding more to society like becoming engineers or becoming computer science majors vs old heads who contribute the learning and passion of music.

I read a while back that they have the 3 valve mellophones, but they were having problems with them. They switched back to the 2 valve mellophones until they can work out the kinks with the 3 valve.

What manufacturer does the bugle line play on? Are they still using Kanstul? I know they shut their doors several years back.
They were made by BAC who now owns all of the old kanstul tooling
