    Hi guys. If you're potatoes are flowering they're ready to harvest. They may be on the small side if you haven't built up the earth on the sides, but they will be tasty. 😁

    I think that’s actually an early Ifor williams cow trailer, they had a green canvas roof originally…. My grandad had one like it and it was ancient when it was sold at his farm sale in 1989……

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might get calves in there but it’s pretty tiny. The trailer was built by the sellers Grandad and is certainly not up to Ifor standards but I think it has potential. 🤞Perhaps he based it on the same design though.

    Try some Epsom salt at the feet of your tomatoes. It will nourish them and green them up. Love your channel. 💕🌵

    Just a thought, have you considered putting up trail cams around the farm to see what visitors you get, especially how/if the foxes enter or try to?

    The five point plan for sheep lameness is a good tool to get/keep lameness under control. It is also worth compiling a flock health plan (with veterinary input) which is like a farm specific manual tailored to the diseases encountered on a particular farm.
    Sheep lameness is a very common problem. I see it everywhere there is a field with sheep in it!

    Thanks for the farm Friday. I love how you mix it all up. Never a dull moment on your farm. What a lovely big patch of stingers, where ever your get a good patch of them you can be sure that the soil is in tip top condition. Stinging nettles only like to grow on rich soil. Pick the tips and use them in a salad or boil them and eat them like spinach. For some reason I don't get stung by them, maybe it was because in my youth I used to play around big patches of stingers. I can remember my Dad left the green house go one year and we had stingers poking out of the greenhouse roof windows. Thanks for posting you brought back some interesting memories.

    Regarding the rabbits and the fox, yes I believe that you're correct that the rabbits simply know that they're faster and can jink quickly. We get dozens of rabbits on the field behind our house and whenever a fox crosses the field the rabbits look up and watch it but as soon as it moves on they go back to grazing, seemingly without a care in the world.

    For moles - put a stick in the ground then a plastic bottle on top of it. Cut out fins on the side of the bottle so the wind can blow it. As it spins it causes vibrations to go down the stick and into the ground. Moles dont like it and keep away.

    • @stevebutterworth1937
      @stevebutterworth1937 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tried that years ago but I’ve still got lots of moles…. I do live in France though and maybe I should of cut the fins in the bottle to spin counter clockwise 🤔

    Not a proper gardener but wondering if mulch (straw) around the tomatoes would reduce evaporation. Hopefully someone will have experience of what’s good to use.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have done wood chip and other mulches and all do the job. Only think to watch is you don’t introduce seeds, so hay or cuttings would backfire.

    Seem to be a lot more sheep than I remember, I must have missed the update on more coming in.
    That bank looks savage, definitely don't want to be dragging a yow (bit of Cumbrian dialect for ewe😉 there) out of that.
    Lots of rabbits, hmmmmm spaniel and😎😎😎
    Look forward to the next update.
    Also the last video on the chassis build, wow really got a sense of scale when they were together and you were both working on them. Huge 👍

    Hi Tim and Jo, I never expected you both to take on farming so enthusiastically! I guess I thought you'd just buy an old farm house and fix it in order to live in the countryside.... But now, with all these aimals, it's all quite different. What's your long term goal with the farm, apart from building a mobile home first and then a house? Have you already realised that long vacations away from the farm will be really difficult to organise🙊?

    What a lovely visit to the farm…sorry if it’s a silly question but what was wrong with the poorly sheep? Can’t wait to meet the piglets…I’ll have to wait until next video as I’m not on Instagram! I hope it all goes smoothly for everyone concerned 🥴😉🤗🙋🏻‍♀️🇬🇧💕jane

      We thought it was going to be scald from the long grass, it gets between their hooves as they walk. In actual fact they looked fine and only thing obvious was some hoof growth turned in, so we just trimmed that and a quick preventative spray and they seem to be better so far. We will go through them all next week when we bring them all in to split the lambs off to a different field.
      No sign of 🐖 yet, busy watching web cam over breakfast!

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we have done our meat chickens for around 4 years now and aim for around 12-20 at a time. Now we have a bit more room we may double that but still plenty for our own needs.

    If you are getting foot rot issues when it’s so dry, then you may wish to look at grazing opportunities for damper times.

      You could see it in the background. It has walls up and sheathing is on. This video is obviously ahead of the build series so they probably didn't want to show it out of sequence.

    Love it. Do you regret though getting so many animals before sorting out your own living space? Looks like a lot of daily work and time!

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, occasionally it’s a pain to go out again after a long day but most of the time it’s just enjoyable routine. Plus if we had no grazing, it would be constant mowing. 😂 After all it’s why we bought a farm. 👍

    I have read it is common practise to do a health check on the sheep flock once a month. Do you have one of these pen systems or are you getting some help when it comes to that? Also do you have a Vet on board yet??? Don't you have to 'dip' sheep??? It would be good to hear about the pastoral side of things.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a handling system would be a bit overkill for our little flock, hurdles just fine. We bring them up to the yard for sorting and checking over when needed whether that be shearing or when we split the lambs off next week, then again before tupping. No dipping but all Clik’ed We have a local farm vet when needed but hopefully not too often. 🤞

    Hi, really enjoying the content. It seems that you’ll be raising animals for meat ( not a problem for me) but I’m just wondering how and when you are going to introduce the girls to the process??

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The girls have helped with butchering over the years with the poultry they help raise from chicks so we have always tried to make sure they know what’s what. Obviously it’s up to them how much or little they want to be involved. 👍
