INS Jatayu to shield Indian waters near Maldives; Navy all set to commission new naval base

The Indian Navy is all set to strengthen itself with the commissioning of a new base INS Jatayu. The step would be taken to bolster India’s position in the Indian Ocean Region. This new base of the Indian Navy will be set up in the Minicoy Islands of Lakshadweep. Navy officials informed ANI that the new base will have a small component of officers but would be expanded in future. The location of the new base will have a strategic importance as it would be around 50 miles away from Maldives. The base would be similar to the INS Baaz in the Andamans and would have similar capabilities in the Arabian Sea. The Indian Navy will also induct four of its MH-60 Romeo choppers acquired from the US. In 2021, Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu received two MH-60 Romeo choppers in San Diego.
