    @5:03 Edge of breakup = can't go wrong. I've learned that for the music I like and play less gain is better than more gain with a cranked tube amp. That sound just does it for me as the sound at full volume is still clear & defined.

    Shane, nearly 10 years ago I was in discussion with Ian B who owns Artist. I told him that he needed to incorporate a small tube amp range in his brand as I was keen in investing and helping him brand and build the business further. I researched and found the makers of the amp, and supplied all of the concepts to him for what became this little beauty. We never did do that deal as Ian is Ian but I can say that I think I managed to help design and grow what is now a very good tube range and also provide a quality product that players of all stages can and do consider a game changer. Ian if you're reading this, you're welcome mate - SB.

    The fact you've owned & used this amp for 4 years & NOT moved it on speaks volumes! (NO pun intended!)
    It's a good sounding amp for sure!

    Greetings Shane. I totally agree that The Tweedtone is great. I have 2 of them and am rapped. One great little thing I discovered ( you may already be aware of this ) is that the tone controls seem to be active. By that I mean you can cut the signal entirely by turning the 3 eq pots down to zero. You can then turn up the volume and gain pots as high as you want then slowly increase any of the eq pots you wish. This works brilliantly especially if you want to play at bedroom levels because it allows the volume pot to get past the initial part of its sweep where very little signal gets through and the sound is very thin. Hope this makes sense. Cheers. Mick Power

      My old Ampegs do that and I was told it was a Baxandall tone stack, whatever that means. The Ampeg GVTs use it too. I looked it up back when I was told all that, interesting way of making an amp. I wonder if this is the same, I like it on my amps for sure. Pretty sure Polytones do that too, I will have fire one up later to know for sure. I did not look any of this up, so I may wrong! I'll double check later...

    I’ve had my AG Tweed for 2 years, based in Shane’s positive review. I am delighted and am glad that I traded in two bigger, older transistor amps for it. The valves have been swopped out which is easy enough to do. The only issue experienced is the deterioration of the plastic in the input jack, but AG replaced this unit for A$25. The amp sings and has enough tonal range and options to gig without additional pedals.

    Bought one of these a few years back on the strength of Shane's video. No regrets at all. It sounds beautiful. The only caveat for me is that if I switch from clean to dirty, I need to put an eq pedal on for one of them because the drive channel is quite a lot darker than the clean. Thanks Shane, your recommendation was perfect for me.

    • @mickthemerciless9694
      @mickthemerciless9694 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Peavey classic 30 has the same problem. Rather than using an eq pedal l set the amp eq to suit the dirty channel on the trebley side and when clean, I back the tone off, on the guitar.

    Love it! Great-sounding amp! Playing along at home with my strat and my new pedalboard, I was able to match all the sounds, using just two of the pedals and no amp. About $250 invested, less the FRFR PA, but including the pedalboard and PSU. Still, I might get one; the whole pedalboard cost over a grand, but it might be even more amazing, with a 2 channel tweed amp.

  • @MeneerHerculePoirot

    This is an amazing amp. Bought mine used and upgraded. The stock transformer was replaced with one 2x the output of the stock component. It's a Z11 silicon. Purchased a footswitch. I don't use any processing beyond a little reverb.
    In the weeks I had it I've never been able to get an acceptable sound out of the overdrive channel. So, I started to overdrive the clean channel with the guitar volume pot. As I'm primarily a vocalist it's a bit more fiddley than I would like, but I've been getting better at it everyday. Don't even use the pedal or overdrive channel at all now. Have taken it to a couple blues jams and this little beast more than holds it own. One of the regulars described it as a 'little warrior'. Very appropriately named. Artist Tweedtone 20r. The Little Warrior.

    I think that for the price this amp is punching way above its weight in value. The sound is as good as any Fender tweed at a fraction of the cost and gives you a bonus of a dedicated drive circuit that serves up classic rock tones in abundance. Thanks for sharing.

      This sounds like a great amp but as good as any Fender tweed? Cmon now

    • @killacoiler1707
      @killacoiler1707 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robertlevasseur8896 I have been playing for over 40 years and have owned a couple Fender Tweed amps as well as Silver Face combos and honestly there are so many great tube options that come in at half the cost but deliver the tonal representations if you spend the time to EQ them.
      I work in musical instrument retail and anymore the quality of tone is not nearly as vast of a gap as it once was. Now, I will say this, it is hard to replicate the sound of an aged tube amplifier using a current reissue of the same circuit. Just like a modern reissue of a vintage model guitar is not going to produce the same tone as a naturally aged vintage model. Cabinet materials just like tonewoods age and how they transfer vibration changes. Speakers loosen up as the cone and surround materials age, and tubes that age react to EQ adjustments differently. Heck the aging of the potentiometers have an effect on tonal shaping. With this in mind no two amplifiers will ever sound the same regardless of manufacturer or manufacture dates. The levels that you play through the amp and the type and amount of effects you add into your signal chain consistently will make an amp sound different from a model that is virtually 1 number in serial succession to each other.

    Fender are jacking up their prices to the point it's essentially price gouging. I spoke to a Fender dealer who told me they've done three hikes in the last year alone. And they have them built in China now anyway. This looks like a wonderful option! Let's just hope Artist don’t start raising their prices substantially too which happens a lot with cheaper manufacturers off the back of TH-cam influencer coverage. Btw, I'd rather go blind? I have recently purchased one of these 2nd hand in NZ. (approx. 2 1/2 yrs old). A day after I bought it home and played for a while it started blowing fuses. Took it to a technician friend of mine and he replaced a faulty diode, probably caused by unstable bias supply whitch is unstable because of bad connections..... and on and on..
    Rang Artist support but they havn't any tech suppot in NZ.
    These are absolutely a cool sounding (and looking)amp, but I can't trust this amp at a gig or jam night, so is only for home use for me.
    So comments have questioned the longevity of these things so maybe it is an issue. As my tech. mate said 'They are cheap for a reason". But hey, even the top name brand have some dodgy manufacturing too at times! Maybe I just got a dud!

    $500? Love it. Gotta give up the effects loop, but as long as the reverb sounds good it's something i can live with. A 3- band EQ is a BIG plus. It sounds exactly like what is in my head the first time i ever plug into a Tweed-style ampfor the first time, but rarely do i find it. Kind of like when I plugged into a Silver Jubilee for the first time and was met with the Marshall sounds I'd always expected but had yet to find until then.
    I was going to build a 5E3 because I'm looking for a tweed but i actually think this will work better. The celestions are good, but it'll come out immediately. I have an Eminence EJ1250 50W Alnico and a 30W Celestion Alnico blue that have been waiting to be used in something for the last couple years. Since I'm likely going to use it home more often than not (i have other amps for those gigs) the 30W Celestion blue is probably going to be the ticket.
    Great demo, as always. 👍

    Hi Shane,
    Thanks so much for all the work you put into your channel .wish I had found it sooner as I didn't realise how good some of the SX and artist gear was, could of saved a tonne of money lol. I have a question though. I mainly play blues, older rock and some surf. Im looking to buy an Amp to eventually gig with probably smaller venues and as money is abit tight I have narrowed it down to the fender champion 100xl and the artist tweedtone 20r. I know these are quite different amps but roughly the same price new in Australia. What would be your pick to play live? Do you recommend anything else in that price point

    YEAH! Sounds an upgrade from my Monoprice 15-watt with one channel. But I will miss the analog reverb tank - I love to bang on it for the last song to end with a satisfy crash reverberate around the room.

    100% agree, I got mine last year, after watching an earlier review you did. I'm amazed how good it sounds against significantly more expensive Amps.

    Awesome vid, love your enthusiasm.
    I’m new here and just watched your 4yr old DOA vid so real happy to find this one too.
    Going to look for a good cheap elec as a first guitar and shortlisted the Yamaha Revstar, Artist LP copy and Gretsch G5230.
    What are you thoughts on any of these 3 and this amp ?
    Thoughts about this amp and a semi-acoustic?
    I haven’t seen any vid on the Yamaha, have you compared it to the Gretsch ?
    I’m an older newby, love ol’school rock and tube amps, oh and the Teskey Bros.
    Thanks from Melb 🇦🇺

    As much as I feel as though I’m good with the gear I have, I still want this TweedTone 20!!!! I love the tones you get through it!!! One day…maybe 😂😂😂

    • @andrewksadventures
      @andrewksadventures ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I hear you, I really like the tone and practicality of these. I have enough gear though! When these came out I thought about getting one but bought a used Ulbrick Club 20 and it's great, but need a pedalboard, as there's no reverb or drive channel.

    Shane, I noticed when you were doing your 3 amp setup video, you'd kept hold of the tweedtone. I've 'ummed and 'arred about getting one as I own far too many amps already LOL. It looks like that tweeds coverings ageing nicely too.

    Beautiful playing mate! I still haven't pulled the trigger on an amp yet. Fender got a little dicky with their purchasing but back on track now, although running behind. I have to ask Shane,.. keep seeing that Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue of yours with the cover on it and,.. do you suggest this Artist Tweed stacks up to the Fender? If so,.. in what ways? Genuinely asking for your personal thoughts on this question.

    This looks super interesting, sounds great. Does it have a foot switch to go between the clean and drive channels?

    • @intheblues

      You have to buy that separately but it allows you to switch channels. The foot switch input is near where the speaker connects to the head underneath.
