Hammer-ons, slides, pull-offs, double-stops, precision picking, dynamics. Yeah, this superb tune from Bob has it all. A simple repetitive melody that he manages to keep interesting. Acoustic guitar at its best. Determined to learn Bob‘s arrangement I’ve watch the video at least 20 times, discovering additional subtleties and nuance each time. Have also watched the ACM presentation with Tim’s wonderful vocal. Written by Lori McKenna, a fellow massachusetts native, I can’t wait to get this beautiful, emotional tune totally under my fingers. Thanks so much for putting this out on TH-cam, Bob
Stunning playing, superb melody. Who says the old songs are the best? Intrigued, I checked out the Tim McGraw recorded version, but was very disappointed. The arrangement was smooth, middle-of-the-road FM radio friendly. This solo guitar version really does the melody proud.
Great playing brother, Love the C Collings, sounds absolutely stellar and great song. Reminds of the Bourgeois SJ, i work there! I dont listen to country but this song makes me think of both my parents that died in their 50s.. life's short enjoy every minute you have on this earth.
Well, I’m learning it now. The process is to listen to the melody over and over and get it into your head. Capo on the fourth fret, key of G. Some tricky fingerings, strategic hammer-ons, very specific string targeting with the right hand. And the great part is we get to watch Bob playing this wonderful melody. It’s all there, right in front of you!
One of the joys of my repeated plays of this video is the bird chirruping away in accompaniment. Can any of you US ornithologists tell this Brit what species it is?
Hello Brit - I couldn't agree more ... I'm from California and didn't recognize it at first and was stumped ... then it dawned on me that it is an bird from east of the Rocky Mountains ... the Blue Jay ... www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&sca_esv=35a3d0f5617f2f1a&sca_upv=1&q=blue+jay&uds=ADvngMjWLhKfa3zH_zj7r2Zwm4HbZT9lPXR-y-hVqV9Jqb_ZdOMeK9WoKEeWpnkKUMfjUG34tZ2Wzj_qQGhnZ-_nu9703yKlno2KHl_82epLkaZBMDivVW28wv1ppRC5PwZb-xdkyHxhvANKt-AmEhNwPNPnmQsprhPlDiN4VnKuSPHJ1GZKpZgNeBHYOohGQ0PKNfoWDVh_eJi8SERatsI8_VjcwItL-c5moaA51wRRf_hGx1d9CgzRdZXAU4k-rgWqkCP_efMfv_MQILu9vOLseWyejVA7bKiGIm0FoLsRPjoqvjKodxSAkv2wwip_Gjf-oPqsH8Cv&udm=2&prmd=ivsnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj1856EuoGGAxXnMjQIHZsiDZgQtKgLegQICBAB&biw=2443&bih=1303&dpr=1 ... like most birds in the Covidae family of crows and jays they are quite common, raucous & intelligent ... in California we have Stellar and Scrub Jays ... it almost sounds like he's singing along ... haunting ...
It's a Blue Jay ... member of the Corvidae family of crows and jays ... there are many blue jays like Stellar & Scrub Jays but this is the "Blue Jay" like the mascot for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team .... you can google "Blue Jay" images and audio to verify ... I agree ... it's a haunting duet ...
He's not showing off. Just recording a song he loves. This is awesome
What a great sounding guitar.. in the hands of a superb player
That guitar sounds like it was built to play that song. Beautiful sounding instrument.
The atmosphere and birds in the background really add some beautiful vibes to this cover!
The title of this tune is a perfect description of Bob's wonderful music. Thank you sir.

Awesome. I was fortunate to hear you do an acoustic version of Don’t Take The Girl in a very small venue a few years ago. Sounds great.

I do like this song but that was amazing ,,

How many hours of your life have you given over to learn the guitar to play like this? Awesome man

One day I'll be able to play like this.
Such airy transient performance

Very Good!! :-)
Thank you Bob
love this. smashing. rudderless vibes, assuming this wasnt written before
I need to do some work on melody in my playing. Excellent 👌
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bob I find this a better listening experience than the record. As usual.. well done....

what gear do you use to record video and audio ?
Which microphone that you had used?
I’d love to use this melody to sing my song I wrote. Not for profit just such a great perfect melody. Beautiful work
Miriam Womack it’s already a song by Tim McGraw.
Thanks for responding. Did not realize that lol!!!
ps any tabs you made for this? I'd buy them in a hot minute
Something really beautiful to listen to, I love it! May I ask what's the thickness of the strings you use?
I believe he uses d'addario nickel bronze 13/56. I just started using them in a 12/53 on some of my acoustics and they sound amazing! Hope this helps.
What kind of picks do you use if you don’t mind me asking?
Talk about 2 become 1
Was that you a few days ago playin this song during the acm songs?
Any chance you could share a tab or a lesson?
Awesome, do you give lessons Bob?
Sorry, not at this time.
Do you use guitar pro for arranging?
No, it’s all by ear.
Beautiful playing. Beautiful tone- but I couldn't even see the end pin?
End pin?
How would one learn to play this

Thanks so much for the info. Our native Jay has a creaky clockwork sounding song, definitely not as melodious as your Blue Jay.
why U have so many collings…why you have so much money🤩
What tuning are you using ?
Standard.
@@missouriboy66 oh wow it sounded like you had an Andy mckee type tuning style
You looks like fc Liverpool coach
Is this standard tuning?
Yes.
@@missouriboy66appreciate the response. Made my day!
Would you consider collaborating with other artists????
The one down vote on this video is from a fiddle player....
