My first son and twin sons are 15 months apart, all on the spectrum. Took years to learn to talk, all runners (ie bolt into the street, etc.). After almost watching them die by car a couple times i started using a leash. Funny how people were willing to judge, but not help keep my children alive. We do what we gotta do, so kudos to this mama for keeping her boys alive, too! ❤

I'm appalled that someone gave you a hard time about using a leash. Kids are fast. Mom is trying to shop or is carrying kids stuff. A harness leash is the only sane & safe solution. Kids get killed or kidnapped running away from their parent(s).

When my son was like 3? Maybe 4?? We were at our local mall at Christmas time so it was busy. There was a playground thing in the middle, and the food court was around it. Husband went to get food, I was watching our kid. I had all our coats and stuff and I was shoving sons coat in a backpack that I had so I didn’t have to carry so much. Again, it’s super busy so I wasn’t taking my eyes off him at all, except for under 2 seconds when I glanced down to see why I couldn’t get the backpack to zip. In that 2 seconds (not an exaggeration, it was seriously a glance down) he was GONE. I was absolutely FRANTIC. Found him with his dad in line at the food court. He was playing, realized he was hungry and that was that… off he went to find dad. Those few minutes I couldn’t find him were terrifying.

I always say I am going to need a leash with my boys when we go out for family outings.. so my question for Mama Kelce is, did it ever get easier with Travis as he got older and how did you handle any aggressive sibling rivalry? because from the looks of it Jason and Travis seem to have a great brotherly bond and I’m excited to see my sons develop their own special bond once they get past all the biting, hitting, hair pulling, toy stealing stage.💙💙💙

I have three my oldest adhd but his anxiety made him safe! He wasn’t a runner, but like Jason I have issues with him just waisting time not getting ready for school on time. I did the whole making him walk for being late and go back and get him later to make a point. My daughter was typical stay close by so I don’t have an issue. My youngest is 3 and like Travis is a runner and shows no fear. He is the one I had to lock in the house with a child lock cause he let himself and the dogs out and playing in the middle of the street when I went to the bathroom. I had a harness for him cause if I said stop he’d run faster away. He’d have no sense of danger what he was running into and I had knee surgery (he was 2) and I couldn’t keep up!

My mother had my brother, now 65, in a harness and leash when he was little because he would run away. People gave her such grief.

Cut poor Donna a break! She did what she had to do. I figure out that dressing my 4 kids in the exact same outfit when we were going to be in crowds, they looked like a matched set and even strangers could see when one was missing. LOL

My daughter is an entrepreneur now and when she was young, she was so independent and would take off without her dad or I. She left me in Myrtle Beach and followed her dad to a restaurant and I was chasing and yelling for people to stop her. Kids are tough.

Boy. I bet she is relieved they are grown up now. She finally gets a break. I had to use one of those harnesses with a leash for a short time also but it was usually only when we went to Disneyland. I was terrified of loosing track of my son in crowds.

I remember Grandma talking about kids being tethered to the clothesline while Moms got sh*% done. It is all good.

Oh yeah!! Because they could still run back and forth along the lines of the clothesline, just be kept safe in their backyard. Made total sense!

My son is the same age as Travis and used to run off as well, and I had to get a "handholder" leash for him, too, lol! It was the only way to keep "energetic" kids alive!

I had a harness when I was a kid cause I’d run away at the mall and hide in the racks until I could hear the panic in the mall announcers voice.

  • @simransachindesai1907

Lol we've used the harness with both kids when they were little and would run off and not listen... when you're going through a busy spot with kids who like to dash off... you do what you gotta do!
