      As a note on the jade-like thing, while we think of jade as green in the west, it also comes in white forms, so "jade-like" skin, would be similar to "snow white", it also refers to a lack of zits, freckles, warts, or anything else making the skin not smooth.

      it also a very popular descriptor for a character that will get kidnap, refined in to a pill and eaten so that the MC has a excuse to slaughter a whole sect/family. The ammount of times that Romantic interests get a variation of that, is soo large that it made me drop the genre as a whole, as all ships eventually get killed one way or another, the lucky ones get a quick a death and the unlucky ones get r*d first or get turned in to a pill, maybe both.
      The only cultivation novel i can endure right now is cultivation chat group because it is a parody and they don't do that shit, the worst it happened is that one FI got turned in to one of MC's spiritual organ and is considered the same person as MC now, sharing memories and senses, but hey they at least are together... as the same being, with the same senses, the same memories and slowly but surely the same personality

    Xianxia (the actual sub-genre of Wuxia this game is based on) is the kind of genre that only makes sense and does not seem schizophrenic after you have brain rot from excessively reading them. I have that type of brain rot, I have not exactly finished any yet, but I am currently trying to finish one. And I think the thing that makes me enjoy them is the scale of the genre.
    There are plenty of over the top works of fiction regardless of which culture the author comes from, but the Chinese Xianxia genre is next fucking level. It is usually midway through at most before the main protagonist has the power of a god and is fighting other characters with the power of a god. And by "power of a god" I mean planets can be destroyed by a fight between cultivators in a Xianxia novel, and that is just the lower end of just how insane the scale is in novels of this genre. Frequently, by the end of the novel the power of the characters is strong enough to destroy universes.
    There are of course non-Xianxia works of fiction that have such insane scales of power, but it feels like Xianxia has a disproportionate number of works that depict such scale.
    This game actually seems sane compared to half of the shit that happens in the actual novels and manhuas (Chinese equivalent of manga).

    One thing that always bugged me about the genre is the comparisons often made between the Force from Star Wars and Chi in Daoism. There are even similarities with Jedi vs Sith conflict and the Orthodox path vs Demonic path in the fiction (though admittedly, there are a lot more asshole Orthodox cultivators than there are asshole Jedis). So why aren't there any crossover (official or fan-made) series about a Jedi Knight getting lost in a cultivation universe, or vice versa. Is there one? You think someone would have made one by now.

    • @okairo
      @okairo ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because of the different cultures behind the 2.
      For Cultivation; anyone has the potential to cultivate and become a Cultivator. Someone could still have horrible potential as a Cultivator, but he can still cultivate to become one.
      For Jedi/Sith, even Superheroes: It's pre-determined. Not everyone can become a Jedi, Sith or a Superhero. They can try, but will always fail. Cultivation doesn't work this way.
      There also cannot be a crossover because a very powerful Cultivator can squash a Jedi or a Sith with the flick of their hand, or if they're extremely more powerful, they can simply kill someone by unleashing a domain. A Cultivator wouldn't even need a spaceship to travel through space as Qi would provide them with everything for life.
      And the difference between Orthodox and Demonic the way a cultivator cultivates. You can be a Cultivator who cultivates purely through sex, and you could be labelled as a demonic cultivator purely out of not cultivating the same way as the majority. (Different novels have different explanations of what constitutes each side)
      As for the "Orthodox" being assholes... 1 novel character I remember said and it makes the best sense: Demonic Cultivator show their true selves and do not attempt to hide it. While the "Righeous" Sects and Cultivators hide their dark side behind fake honor and chivalry, but they won't hesitate to stab a friend in the back and the same demonic cultivator saying this mocks them by saying that at least the Demonic Cultivators don't lie to the people.
      A good manga/manhwa that shows this is Cultivator vs Superheroes. (the whole cultivation vs hero system)

    • @beomcheolkim8543
      @beomcheolkim8543 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@okairo All valid points and I'm aware of them, but I'm still puzzled as to why no one has tried to combine the two. The Force and Chi are both universal energies that permeate through all things and are, superficially, similar; so it's not too much of a hassle to say that one is related to the other or works similarly. I read the Cultivator vs Superheroes one, but the question stands on why I haven't heard of any really good, or at least infamously bad, series about Star Wars and Cultivation. If there can be a fan-fiction crossover work between My Little Pony and the Warhammer 40K universe, and a professionally made crossover movie between the Justice League and RWBY (none of them makes any sense to me to combine other than for the shock value and mild horror), why isn't there one about Obi-Wan reincarnating and becoming a Sect disciple somewhere, or Gu Changge slapping Emperor Palpatine through the Death Star.

    I have read Cultivation novels, aka Wuxia, Xianxia and Xuanhuan novels, and yes, its sometime hilarious and sometime just Just DIE already. But some are very interesting to read.
    My recommendations;
    1. I shall seal the Heavens (very good story but just a 1 off for me, i might read it again)
    2. Renegade Immortal (Hell Yeah)
    (RI and ISSTH, interact in small part because they are part of the same Universe)
    3. Desolate Era (I highly enjoyed this one and read it twice)
    4. Warlock of the Magus World (I read this thing 3 times...)
    5. Yama Rising (very funny :) but the drawback is the story is very draw out when reading)
    6. A Will Eternal (Connected to RI and ISSTH in small part because same universe, Very funny and silly but serious when needed).

      @@Interitus-3Trinum-1Aeternus-0 I’ll recommend Virtuous Sons. It swaps out ancient china as a setting with Ancient Greece and trades daoism for Greek myth and philosophy.
      It has 2 protagonists and I would describe it as maybe the most properly epic cultivation story I’ve yet read
      I also recommend Forge of Destiny. Female MC who has a much smaller protagonist halo. Instead of a revolving door of “talented young masters” we have a pretty steady cast of people keeping pace with the MC or that the MC is consistently working to catch up with. The story goes pretty in depth on the politics and worldbuilding. The cultivation system also has some neat stuff going on as they progress.

      You gotta understand the main media should I say for these kind of content are novels, maybe only 0.000001% of them are made to manga which is quite obscure media type unlike Japanese manga. As an Chinese reader who have been reading through hundreds of novels, in my native language ofcourse, most novels are over 1mil characters and 3 mil is generally considered as medium length novel with some obscure and unnecessarily long novels over 10 mill, which able to provide unthinkable level of details compare to manga.
      And with such a large population, literally millions of writer that are writing, as soon as someone who created a sub genre or extremely successful novels, people are gonna copy it, not literally but with similar structures and plot with their own twist, which often fails miserably with maybe few dozen of them will success, thats why you keep seeing similar one as it was trending

      @@abjectlyterriblebcz our market never really cared or focused on manga or anime in that matter, like imagine concentrate 3 mil words novel with over 1000 chapters to just few hundred page of manga or 20 episode of 40 mins anime, unless you have read through the original novel, you often won't understand and missing lots of detail

    • @diablo.the.cheater
      @diablo.the.cheater ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Simon-tr9hv All that detail is usually wasted in increasingly long unnecessary descriptions that are repeated again again and again. you could slash 90% of the words of your typical xianxia novel and you will still get the same with the same level of relevant detail, because i really don't need a very intricate description of a character that dies in the same chapter and is no longer relevant for the rest of the story every fucking time. Japanese trashy iskekai wish fullfillment webnovels are high literature next to the average xianxia novel that has a total of 4 different characters, the mc, woman, senior and young master, if you had luck they may have a fifth different character that is a mix of two of the ones before. All others are exact copy of these 3 archetypes except the mc, but the mc is always the same psycopath MC that will kill all of the villain family members with some generational curse just because the villain was a dick.
      Even the good ones with actual characters usually could be written with a tenth of the words they use, to phrase in a way reminiscent of old wisdom:

    It kinda annoys me that Sseth called it Wuxia, when it's clearly Xianxia. Wuxia is about mortal heroes, political intrigue, and who has the biggest reputation to throw around. Xianxia on the other hand, is about fantastical heroes, achieving immortality, and magical things. Basically, it's low fantasy vs high fantasy, but for the chinese genre. This game is NOT a low-fantasy setting.

    • @diablo.the.cheater
      @diablo.the.cheater ปีที่แล้ว +6

      TBH the divide between the two is not as clear as you make it to be, I have readed plenty of xianxias where the things that mattered the most where reputation and political intrigue and plenty of wuxias that may as well be very low fantasy xianxia. xianxia most often than not just means high fantasy wuxia. And as i said the divide is not that useful, wuxia usually still has fantastical elements, and xianxia usually still has the political intrigue elements, the divide usually just means that the protagonists will be slicing mountains instead of walls and that they will be mentioned to be 400 years old instead of 40 years old. But that is basically flavour. In essence the stories and the rest work the same, is like comparing spiderman with guardians of the galaxy, yes the stakes are different most of the time, but it is still the same. Wuxia and Xianxia for all intentes and porpoises are the same genre, with the only differenciator being how fantasy-ish it is, which again is not clear.
      This is because xianxia is a subgenre of wuxia, so while not all wuxia is xianxia, all xianxia is wuxia.
