  • On the steep coastlines of Northern Chile we encounter a glorious new cast of species that inhabit the foggy coast of the Atacama Desert. Watch the Euphorbia that lactates while being beaten over the head with Dennis Farina references.
    Copiapoa cinerea
    Euphorbia lactiflua
    Copiapoa humilis
    Frankenia chilensis
    Deuterocohnia
    Argylia radiata
    Monttea chilensis
    Puya boliviensis
    Nolana sp.
    Heliotropium

20 yrs ago I moved to Alaska to get away from humanity, I don’t even live in a municipality. I bought every book I could find on plants and berries my first year. I can’t tell you how much someone with your interests impress me. Myself, I can’t go anywhere without bringing home rocks and seeds.

A copiapoa expert name bob barth came through and talked at the Austin succulent society and he has been measuring a single copiapoa cinera since the late 70s and said that in all those years it hadn’t put out a single cm of growth. The plant was 3 ft tall and 2 ft wide. He guessed that that single specimen was around the 1700 to 2000 yr old mark.

It is interesting to consider that the aesthetic sense of pollinating insects with their tiny brains is very similar to the aesthetic values of humans.
