- British soldiers are taking part in the force's largest field exercise in 2022 - also the biggest in Europe for a decade.
Exercise Cerberus sees nearly 3,500 troops deployed to Germany, aimed at confirming the five British Army brigade headquarters that sit within the division are ready for operations.
It is a large command post exercise designed to assess the ability of the brigade headquarters in 3rd UK Division - the United Kingdom's fighting division - and ensure readiness.

3,300, sheesh is that what counts as large nowadays? I remember Operation Lionheart back in the early 80's. Well over 130,000 British forces deployed for that one.
I was in that one, and Crusader.
SLR’s as well?
The water was wetter back then as well I suspect 😉
I deployed from the UK, straight out of training for that one. You’ve never so much kit. Flew back on a chartered BA 747 in 1st Class, that was fun 😀
It's genuinely pathetic. Not only the numbers, but it's essentially staged theatre. Each soldier and each vehicle knows where they need to be at any one time. Nothing is spontaneous or by surprise. In other words, it's as far from actual warfare as you could possibly get. It's all about hitting bureaucratic targets, and we'll pay for it one day.
Good to see the British Army’s uniquely uncomfortable foldable camping chair still preventing watchkeepers from falling asleep on stag.
You had a chair??!!?????
Yea 3000 of them if I was Russia id be scared stiff lol.
@will Derby No maybe after 2nd world war 1970s BAOR army was 55 000 were do you get 200 000 from .
@will Derby An X Spurt is that a new IFV .
@will Derby You Drink Yellow handbags dont know that drink were do you get 200 000 from because the regular army wasnt that big .
I am seeing a few tactical moustaches you can't fight a war in Europe without one
Mustached soldiers are 80% more effective.
Just wish we would increase our defence spending. Also stop sending pilots to train the Chinese
Nobody in the MOD is sending Ex RAF Pilots to train the Chinese. The Chinese are paying them amounts we couldnt comprehend.

It's still far too prepared, as all NATO exercises have been for decades now. The military is given too much planning time, and everything is too staged.
What should happen is the combined ministers of defence suddenly spring it on all their militaries that they need to mobilise in a certain location as soon as possible. Only that element of surprise will truly test not only the readiness of individual forces, but whether they can actually coordinate together.
Isn't that the point though? Make the Brigade plan and learn from the exercise.
The next exercise can test short notice adaptability.
@@RobBCactive And yet, I guarantee the next one will be exactly the same as every one that has gone before for years now - perfectly planned for the media and politicians to come and see.
@@stephengilmore2741 the next "exercise" could easily be a real rapid deployment, the troops who have to be "ready to fight tonight" manage to adjust.

its good to do these exercises, especially working with multiple countries like that but maybe just change the venue to crimea.

"From the UK to the continent of Europe". That's hilarious. The British just can't accept they're Europeans from the continent of Europe. They have to be so special and unique
yes hundreds of years invasion will show you that , why special ? we all have viking, celtic, roman, germatic ect,ect blood ,but are lucky we are a small island surrounded by water, then england came to be , then the british island came to be,,then a empire ruled the world, ect ect,, that bit of water between europe and the uk answers your question
@@jasoncornthwaite8387 you sure are funny. Thanks for proving my point for me. Anywyas, the land on either side if the English channel is Europe. When you see Calais from Dover, you're looking at Europe. When you see the cliffs of Dover from Calais, you're looking at Europe.
So the channel kept the UK special? The irish sea sure didn't keep the north eastern part of Ireland from being its own kind of special. Your argument is pointless. What's iceland, North America? By your logic it's a hell of a lot more "special" than the UK.
You are Europeans, just admit it. It's like a brother saying he's not related to his siblings. It's silly.
look ile keep it simple,, your not seeing my point , yes we are Europeans but did it different from the mainland ,,history tells you that,, william the conquer tells you that,, the kingdoms of said island tell you that,, a british empire tells you that,,,lol
iceland was viking,, north america not very special full of european french,,,lol
@@jasoncornthwaite8387 its not different. the French empire existed. It wasnt that different in terms of reach and influence. Its European just like the british empire.
Youre trying to split hairs. You're Europeans, your culture and your land. You can keep grasping at straws in order to differentiate yourselves from the reat of the European peoples but its futile. Every point you make in order to differentiate yourself can be applied to another European nation and made moot. British empire, french empire, UK is an island nation so is iceland. Etc.
Would you park your command vehicles in such close proximity in a hostile situation…I’m talking about the kit within barbed wire

Made up nonsense.
Our army is too small
I think we are going back to the pre world war 1. Where the British Army was fired like a canon off the deck of a ship.
You are correct. We need to stand up and demand and vote for more. Can you imagine if we were in Ukrainians shoes right about now! The world has changed, we need to wake up and become more prepared.
Better to have a well trained military that is smaller in number than a poorly trained bigger one...look at Russia V Ukraine , one British soldier is worth ten Russian conscripts!!!.😎💕🇬🇧🇺🇦
The UK's army is more than big enough to defend the UK plus do its share of NATO defense.
@@Lost-In-Blank absolutely not. It can barely put a division in the field. That is pathetic.
All of the services have been cut back to the point where they are losing credibility due to small size. No depth: one significant engagement with casualties and poof goes the British Army. Waste of money , energy and fuel , very expensive way to have fun .
Not at all.
The East German / West German frontier is no longer the border that must be defended. NATO forces in Europe should be training in front line nations, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Norway, and once Finland joins NATO, Finland. That said, UK contributions to NATO should not be greater than France's or Germany's on a percentage of GDP basis. The UK gets no appreciation from the EU for contributing 50 to 80% more than its fair share.
You are getting confused between the EU and NATO.
NATO have many countries that are not in the EU (USA, Turkey, Canada and Norway to name a few), and the EU has several countries that are not members of NATO.
You can see today in Ukraine how NATO has spent valuable time and energy running CPX exercises with their counterparts ! in the meanwhile the only thing missing from that CPX in Germany is Wolfgang The Bratty Man who could manoeuvre his famous fast food van better than the Tank drivers on Soltau training area !
Wow, I remember him and if I remember he knew where everyone was too 😁

What's that yellow rifle attachment?
its a BFA, Blank Firing Attachment. Stops people getting hot metal in the face at close ranges when firing blank ammo
Not quite. It’s there to prevent gas escaping and allow the weapon to be fired on auto/semi-auto with blank rounds. Also, to make it front heavy and extra miserable to carry on exercise.
@@BravoNineThreeTwo Were BFAs transferable from the SLR rifle to the
SA 80 or was a new one designed?
@@LesliePotter216 No, we had a special one designed that was unnecessarily large and almost doubled the weight of the rifle. Thus, making patrolling, marksmanship and concealment on combat operations seem far easier by comparison. Genius.
Recruiting number indicate not that many young men in the UK, USA, and Canada feel that their country is prepared to defend the interests of them and their culture against discrimination and persecution. They seem to feel the cultures and people our armed forces will be called upon to defend are *perhaps* as foreign as Russian culture and the Russian people. What bigot will claim it is worse to be taken over by Russia's Eurasian cultures than by any other culture? Are not all peoples and cultures equal?
I can't explain our world today. It all seems so contradictory. All sides seem so hypocritical, although some more than others.

Genius of the MOD closing BFG and BAOR beforehand lol, great work lads. We now have an army standing at 80K reg and lets say 30K TA, out of which we have what, 40K frontline soldiers?. The NHS has 1.2 million full time employees, 60K illegal refugees have crossed the border in the last year and taken up refuge in British hotels and motels that the British people pay for and the MOD can't recruit or retain a fighting force of 100k of regs. Thank God the Russians have to get past Europe before they reach Blighty.
It was a last minute decision not to hand-back the Senne Training Area to the German government, although there are no longer regular troops based in Sennelager. Thank God, keeping the training area foothold in Germany has turned out to be a good strategic decision. However, the ridiculous reduction in troop numbers is madness.
Britain should keep out of this.
You have to train for any scenario.

Is the job of UK armed forces to both defend the UK and do its fair share of defending Europe? *Or is it to be the guy in the trailer park with the second largest gun collection, after the USA?* The military is necessary, a necessary drag on the economy, and while it should be funded adequately, it should not be funded excessively, it should not be given funds just to have more stuff than bigger and more prosperous countries like Germany, France, Norway, etc. Take the UK's over-contribution to NATO and put that money into courses on entrepreneurship, engineering, science, and skilled trades.

Long before these materials got within 100 miles of Russia, the entire nuclear arsenal of Russia, some 4.5 thousand nuclear missiles would be launched and within 3 hours the entire Northern Hemisphere would be wasteland. But yeah, keep playing playing games who don't we? 😱😱
Well, that sounds so desperate 😂
Knowing that Rusky's conventional armed forces including their own made weapons are inferior against NATO armed forces and weapons!
That is why, since 24 February 2022, the day of Pootin's brutal invasion to Ukraine, he threatens America and allies with nukes, almost every single month.

More than that.. our nuclear doctrine dictates that if there's a nuclear war, we fire everything we have at everyone we never liked.
Northern Hemisphere a wasteland? More like the whole freaking world or what's left of it because here in the US while most of us are dead our Nuclear Arsenal will be wiping out Most of Russia, and half of China and all of North Korea. Too bad none of us will be alive to see that😒
1. You have not been listening to the news since February, have you?
2. Russia has maybe 4.5 thousand nuclear warheads, not missiles.
a) Some of those are artillery shells.
b) Some of those face China.
c) Some of those are in submarines docked in port and unable to join a war.
d) Some of those are in silos out of service for maintenance.
e) Many will work well enough to launch, let alone hit their targets.
3. Russia too is located in the Norther Hemisphere, just downwind of NATO.
Point 3 means Russia's strategic nukes are only useful against the USA, and even Russia's smaller nukes, its tactical nukes, will hurt Russia by their fallout.
Points 2(b), 2(c), 2 (d), and 2(e) also apply to US nukes. 2(c) also applies to UK nukes.
