Remembering "Little Jimmy" Scott on the 92nd anniversary of his birth. July 17, 1925 - June 12, 2014. (July 17, 2017). Thank God for the fabulous voice, and the man who possessed it. Love, from Newark, New Jersey.
Music touches me and so I want to share that music from the past, is often what creates music today. Never forget the origins of music. Every generation weaves it's own version and yet, look back to the origin, the roots of the tree!
My girl, Nancy Wilson certainly patterned her style after him. When I was teen, someone played Jimmy Scoutt, and challenged me to guess who it was, and willing to bet I could not tell them who was singing. I swore on my life that it was, Nancy! Whew!! What an introduction to this incredible singer, Jimmy Scott I receive with that experience! :-)
Absolutely Riveting...my only regret is how long I languished without being aware of this Awesome Gift from God...how is he doing these days? I have not seen any Tour dates...so I take it he's just relaxing. Blessings to you all.
He's in heaven gazing upon his LORD!!! Singing like he never did before, without any pain or suffering. May you find peace through Christ and his sacrifice and great love for you. Wonder if Jimmy and my Father had any relation? His name was Walter Scott.
It kill me to read some of the comment about this great singer if you knew his voice his heart and soul went into each song from his heart your not old enough to understand his pain his all that put his voice at the top of the list. A true singer that love what he DID SING. 💓💞😍🎼🎼🎼🗣🎤
Jimmy Scott is STILL going on in OUR memories, SO MANY great concerts in our memories seeing HIM, WHAT a MARVELOUS Message in all his tunes,......PS RIP IN the AFTERLIFE.....
Absolutely stunning, riveting...what a gift to the world. I just happened to hear Russell Thompkins, Jr mention how much he shaped his musical expression in a TH-cam Interview a few nights ago!
Fantastic~ Love Mr. Jimmy Scott's "The Way We Were", so moving.. bings up such wonderful memories. As always, truly a divine version of this timeless song, love the photos in the video.... beautiful!!!! Marcie* xox Thank You for Posting~~~~~~~
The first time I heard of this artist was recently on a you tube video with Joe Pesci. How come I never heard of him before. How many talents go unheard of in the general mainstream of public awareness ?
@SoulSister66 Thanks for even noticing. It's Jimmy's singing that is touching. Small World Dept: Your husband and my best friend , the late singer Bob Casanova shared the same piano player, Mike Kanan.
This guy NOT! Chubby checker should be the inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of FAME! what a great talent / voice ! you will be missed. thank god for Recordings! HE will live on~
You may want to consider your assessment of Jimmy Scott’s talent. As I was his bassist and Music Director 25 years I can tell you nobody could begin to count how many people revered him. With all the standing ovations I witnessed in all the different continents we traveled people were profoundly moved and inspired by his voice. However, I do agree Cubby is also great.
Why does everyone ignore the off key parts? ...and that weird way he ends his notes so abruptly? Some of it is beautiful but come on, guys...his voice is not perfect.
Lance Hairdo I bet you didn't shed more than one tear while you were wailing, "Oh it's such a beautiful song, but he's off on those parts- it's not PRFCT anymore!"
Lance Hairdo Jeez, a little context please. I think he was doing fantastic for 80 something. Listen to his work when he was a young man. Perfect pitch and control. And that "weird" way he ends notes is called Jazz phrasing.
+Lance Hairdo The orchestration really did not do him justice, I suggest that you listen to his CD "lost and found" and you will hear the greatest singer ever to get behind a microphone.
+Lance Hairdo people used to say the same thing about how Monk played piano, especially his solo work on tunes by Duke Ellington. Think of this angel's vocals as an aural Picasso painting and you'll be fine...
I first saw him sing on a TV show when I was 12. Never forgot his voice, the unique emotion it carries. Big fan eversince.
I just dropped everything to listen to this song. Masterclass.

Lance Hairdo Forget the trees. Relish in the beauty of the forest.

I'm sorry but that was a chick
He was a male. I worked with him as his bassist and Music Director for 25 years. Don't make public comments until you know what you are talking about.
WRONG, HE HAD A GENETIC DISEASE THAT PREVENTED HIM FROM GOING THROUGH PUBERTY.
