My GT3RS gets RARE BBS Wheels!

- Use code HUNT50 to get 50% off your first Factor box at bit.ly/3XJx80v ! This is a wheel I have always wanted to run on my 991 RS, but never thought it would be possible with the Carbon Ceramics. I recently found a E89 face that was rumored to fit the ceramic set up, so I pulled the trigger.
The torque to 600nm(444ftlbs) is right and backing 90 degrees and retightening is right. It’s so the conical center lock is seated completely flush. Also please loosen and tighten with the wheels in the air so the wheel is completely flush to the rotor and make sure that gold center lock is pulled out when finished torquing so it’s completely locked so the wheel doesn’t fall off.
Porsche tech here. Was about to say all of this! Perfect instructions and yes! Make sure the centre lock pin is all the way out!
Same here, car must always be in the air, always hold the steering wheel so you don't punch a dent in your fenders

The GT3RS is freaking beautiful. The UV purple with the gold E89 is so good.
E89s are classic looking so glad they made it on the gt3rs

21:43 100% true. And if you plan on taking it on the track, make sure you inspect the center nut for scrapes, and buy Porsche approved lube for it, it is not anti-sieze.

So many auto shops play with air like that I feel like people don't know how risky it is. I always used to clean myself off with one and blow my shirt up to be funny until I learned the risks. Scary stuff!
Center locks are beautiful but a pain in the butt to work with… you’re supposed to “as per Porsche tighten them up to 440 then loosen them 45-90 degrees then re tighten them to make sure they are at spec I don’t understand why but that’s what they call for hope it helps!👍🏻

It’s more because of the center locking design that Porsche uses not the type of wheel

@21:50 Not sure for porsche but as a fighter jet crew chief we have "center lock" gear and you tighten the nut to "seat" the wheel then back off and re torque it to spec to ensure an even seat all around.

100%, the rear needs a more square look sidewall. The stretched look throws it off
So the retorque is for anti cross thread and seising due to heat, we do it a ton in the Aviation mechanic field. It also helps seat the wheel a lil more snug so there isn’t any chance of like debris causing gap.
The RS actually looks insane with those wheels. Good choice my friend. Possibly the best spec’d RS I’ve seen
TJ, you shouldn't break the center lock nut loose on the ground, always in the air with someone holding the brake pedal.

the reason for tightening to 440ftlbs backing off and retensioning is to properrly seat the wheel to the hub before final setting is applied
This is so nice. Love to watch video with your RS. I owned a 991.1 GT3 before. I learned that it will be better to torque the center lock with the car fully off the ground and torque it upwards. Just recommendation😁

I believe I've seen one 991 GT3 RS running these same wheels around Orange County (Black 3 RS w/ black wheels) and I always thought that the only way I would ever change out the stock wheels on a 3 RS would be for these. Nicely done

Twans right the centre locks on Porsches get torqued down then turned back 90 degrees and retorqued. That's the correct way of doing it
I work at a shop in Indiana, we service 918's, Carrera GT's, 3RS's, 2RS's and loads more. Can confirm the weird tighten and then loosen and then tighten again, is in fact true lol.

Aside from the re-torque rules brought up, im fairly sure you MUST torque with the wheels off the ground. I just randomly came across a video explaining this from one of the dudes who works at hoonigan with a Porsche.

yes thats a true procedure, porsche tech at westlake, you loosen it 90 degrees to help with pressures and to confirm proper torque, WHAT YOU MESSED UP ON is your CANNOT tighten them while wheel is on the ground, has to be in the air for center locks....

The ride height is perfect. It will settle a little when driven. OEM+
You should make a small metal box with its own valve stem, put 4 tpms sensors in it that have been linked with the chassis, and pressurize the box to whatever PSI won’t trigger the light, and secure it somewhere in or on the car. Drag racing trick for ya
Or just have them deactivated

The backoff procedure is correct, but centerlocks should be both loosened and torqued with the car in the air, not on the ground.

Should always break center lock while the vehicle is lifted. One person in the driver seat to depress the brakes to hold the wheel while the lock is being broken. This takes the weight of the car off the center lock and preserve the wheel hub.

I'm not a Porsche Tech, but using that long extension is going to throw off your torque specs at that high torque rating that you have to put those sinner locks on at. just a thought🤔

TJ you may or may not know this but the center lock socket is stored in the frunk underneath the plastic liner!! If it came with one and you didn’t know it would be there and obviously if not then you can store the new one there

Yes you are suposed to torque the wheels to 600 nm then lossen 90 degrees and then torque to 600 nm but you are not allowed to lossen or thiten the wheels when the wheels touch the ground

You can use the original tpms sensors we do that to all kinds of cars literally did that to an r8 today.

THEY LITERALLY MAKE A INPACT WITH THE TOOL THAT HAS A BUILT IN TORQUE SPEC SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS PROCESS, IT PRESSES IN THE SAFETY CATCH AS WELL AS LOCKING IT TO THE RIM SO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIT ON THE BRAKES!!! MUST BUY!!!!

While not a fan of BBS wheels, I can appreciate their quality and why people like the style of these. Both forms of the lip look incredible. On paper, I'd have said the gold faces with yellow calipers would look gaudy, but it actually works really well. Congrats on your new wheels and look, Teej!
