@@absalonpedraza1339 yeah I don't disagree, but Klatt threw Dante Moore in the group of pac 12 QB talent as a freshman. So I threw in those Wisconsin and OSU QB's 😆
Clemsons rise came around the time teams that usually recruit the Carolinas and surrounding states really well fell of the face of the planet (Tennessee being the most prominent one). Now that some of those teams have began to pick up the pieces they’re not able to just pick and choose the talent like they used too at the beginning of the Dabo era.
This is a point, that I don’t think some realize. Tennessee and FSU always recruited the Carolinas really well but when Clemson and actually South Carolina during the Spurrier, started coming up it changed everything. Spurrier leaving helped Clemson but now with Tennessee rising again and FSU getting it together, it effects them. Georgia is another one that hurts them. When Brent left, I knew this was all going to happen. He was the real reason for those titles, along with getting two generational talents at quarterbacks consecutively. The quarterbacks isn’t something that anyone has ever done and so that’s like hitting the lottery. They will continue to be good and win the ACC at times but national championships, nope.
That smirk on Joel's face when he says "let's talk about Colorado" 🤣🤣🤣 if they keep winning Joel is going to be insufferable, and I'm completely ok with it. He's alum and deserves to see gis team be great again.
If the PAC-12 performs next game especially Utah and Oregon on the road, This will solidify their position as the hardest conference to win this season.
“College football is a new frontier” aka it’s no longer about getting the degree and playing football in the past time. It is business only as everything else is becoming in America
Yup. And this is why I'm rapidly falling out of being a fan of college football. Why does everything in America wind up part of the corrupt managerial class? Doesn't it get old after a while?
Man those execs at the top of the pac 12 gotta realize how dumb they are for letting those programs go especially Colorado buf good for the farewell season im excited fod this season
The schools presidents failed the PAC-12 but that's because they don't value athletics unfortunately. The irony is that they don't care about how great this year will be.
People spoke about Dabo eventually returning to Bama and replacing Saban. For awhile I could see it. That is until I realized how stuck in his ways he could be. Saban has shown that you have to adapt to survive time and time again and that is the type coach we will need
Agreed. I told My Wife last night that if Saban retired at the end of the season, I’d be on the phone to Deion Sanders the next day, that guy could sell a pork chop to a vegan.
That’s what I’ve been saying to the Bama fans that wanted Dabo. Saran is great because he can adapt, if anything, I’d want Lane Kiffin or Deion Sanders
@@pjpugh2526Glad to see someone else believe/say this. I've said ever since Kiffin left Alabama that I wanted him to replace Saban. Looking at what he has done with Ole Miss's limited resources (recruiting clout/NIL, etc). Imagine what Kiffin would do with Alabama's resources. It's scary if you think about it. Deion Sanders would also be able to accomplish this with a little more flair so both would be my first choices to replace the 🐐.
Three years ago, if I were the #1 recruit and I would be guaranteed to start at any school, I would have went to Clemson. Today, I’d go to Georgia or Bama.
I'd love to hear your analysis of the status of quarterbacks in college football. It sure seems to me that there are twice as many high quality quarterbacks in college than I can remember before. From the immense talent in the PAC 12, to Michigan, Penn State, North Carolina, Florida State, LSU, Duke and many others. It appears that there may be 15 or more 1st round quality QBs in college football right now.

Just my opinion but ive been saying Dabo is an overrated coach for years. He had Deshaun and Lawrence back to back and hasnt done much before or after those 2
Clemson had a great run of truly elite QBs...but after Trevor Lawrence, they have had less than average college QBs trying to run the offense. I am surprised with their success over the last 5-8 years that they haven't been able to recruit a really good one...but such is the way of college football these days.
can't win at an elite level anymore without good receivers. Just ask Alabama and Clemson, who went from championship front runners to barely surviving games they would usually crush people. Washington went through that same phase recently where they had a great defense, but receivers that dropped the ball like it was a hot potato.
@@theechoproject899 Incorrect. UGA has won the last 2 Championships, and off of their 2022 and 2023 teams only 1 WR was drafted into the NFL (George Pickens 2022). WR's can be important, however having a top QB is what really matters.
Two of the biggest reasons for the death of the Pac12 were 1) far too many viewers did not have access to the Pac12 network 2) most viewers didn't want to stay up way past midnight to watch the games. I agree, many of their games are fun to watch.
Fantastic analysis - I could listen all day. Thanks Joel. As a CU fan (I was in the stands when you put up 400+ on CSU in Denver in 2003) I'm particularly interested in Prime's effect on the sport. It's stunning how one guy can have such a profound impact on an entire sport in such a short period of time - the earth is shifting beneath our very feet. It should be a wild ride for the next few years - he's disrupting EVERYTHING. Keep up the great work.
I really can’t think of anyone who could have done this turnaround in a shorter amount of time than Deion. The recruiting for Colorado will definitely sky rocket.
@@wesleyowens4089 Neither USC nor Michigan State were as far down in the depths of despair as CU. Riley brought an already good program up a couple of notches and Tucker got lucky with Kenneth Walker III. Neither situation compares to the rise from the ashes that CU has seen (so far).
USC got hammered by the NCAA and had a string of small elite recruiting classes. Depth issues, not failure to adapt. Kessler, Barkley, and Darnold have all been NFL starting QBs
Clemson, like Miami, had a run but they aren’t Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, USC, or Oklahoma class elite. You have to be close to the top for 50 plus years to be called elite.
I don't personally believe the Pac-12 has a top 5 team right now, but you can't deny it's the most complete conference right now. Which is nice to see, after basically a decade of being irrelevant.
PAC12 is super deep this season and I appreciate Klatt recognizing this and giving credit where credit is due. The PAC12 cannibalizes themselves on a regular basis. They also don’t play a lot of garbage games against FBS schools like the SEC teams do *cough… Alabama*. Do I think any of those teams are going to make the playoff? Probably not, but I do think the top 3 teams in the conference have a shot at beating anyone
I think Dabo messed up when he showed fear for Ohio St. by ranking them out of the playoffs. His interviews after that, I felt the players saw his fear
PSU adapted. Paterno is forced out in 2011, severe sanctions in 2012, and win the B1G by 2016. Everyone thought it'd take 10 years to recover. It took less than 5.
His two points also overlap with the NIL scenario. Clemson has been going downhill since NIL money came about. Which screams top talent kids don’t have to come from Ohio down to Clemson anymore. They can go wherever and get the money. So why go to Clemson then.
Jack Plummer also transferred out of PAC 12 and playing for Louisville (ACC) now. Looked horrible first half against GT, looked like a top 30 qb in the second half
I'm glad DJ got out of there. Clemson was blaming DJ, instead of acknowledging that they didn't have the same talent. Trevor and Watson were talented and made up for the lack of coaching needed. DABO was feeling himself and never went out and got a legitimate QB developer or dynamic play caller. Can't live off of high schoolers when you are competing against transfers. Would you take DJ with a Sean Lewis as his coach? Shedur and Sean Lewis is probably the best combination outside of Lincoln and Caleb Williams.
@Matt101984 But they didn't develop his throws. He had a strong arm, but that was it. Coaching Qbs up means when QBs come in, they actually learn something. Not everyone can develop QBs. DJ never improved on reads and being able to make all the throws that QB need to. Is that a coaching thing??? Some coaches can do it, and some coaches can't. Again, most weak coaches blame the players.
I'm a big Washington fan, graduated there but also went to CU a few years in the late '80s, so I agree that Pac12 is the deepest conference and has the best QB depth, but if I'm looking at the SEC I'd have to give it up for KJ Jefferson at Arkansas. That guy is a beast. Arkansas kicked a can around this week - like many big programs do - but their QB/RB duo is a problem. I think he may be the best QB in the SEC. If they had an OL or a couple dangerous receivers they'd be in business.
Clemson looked a lot better with Brent Venables on staff. He left, and Clemson doesn't look like Clemson. Maybe it wasn't Dabo actually leading Clemson to success.
I hope Joel does a check in on the Iowa fanbase. After scoring two TDs on their first two possessions, Brian Ferentz probably felt good about that 25 ppg mark. Then they ended up with only 24 points against Utah State. They needed to run the score up to have a cushion. Now he's already behind.
Texas example leads back to a good quarterback can cover a lot of deficiencies! Make everyone better than they are. From players to coordinators but making things happen that wouldn’t have .
29:21 "This is an absolute 2 team race in the east" - There. Fixed it for you. Please stop coddling OSU fans, Joel. They know their team stinks 😂 #WeAre
It's bizarre seeing Clemson not embracing the transfer portal when just a few years ago they were the blue collar hype school with all the culture backing them. Dabo now seems like a grumpy old man. Even Saban embraced the portal. As far as the Pac 12, I won't take them seriously until they can play defense. It's fun watching these offenses put up video game numbers until they play a top tier SEC team, not current Florida (see what UGA did to Oregon last year).
I'm fearful Ohio State is going down. However, its recruiting classes are still ranked in the top 5, if not, in the top 10. Ryan Day needs a new O Line coach 'cause the running game is not playing well. It shows when OSU is trying to score from the 5 yard line or closer.

@@benniewoods9514I only see Allar, McCarthy and Tagovailoa being worthy. Everyone else are not worthy...
@@absalonpedraza1339 yeah I don't disagree, but Klatt threw Dante Moore in the group of pac 12 QB talent as a freshman. So I threw in those Wisconsin and OSU QB's 😆
PSU was beating OSU for 3.5 quarters. Clifford just imploded. They were up on UM at halftime. Then the trenches imploded.
Clemson is entering their Case McCoy - Jaxson Shipley era, after their Colt McCoy - Jordan Shipley era.
I think we should just give Colorado the #1 spot till next year no need to have a College Playoff.....
Big10 is the deepest because USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon are now Big10 programs
No, they don't become Big10 programs until next summer. We're all talkin' 2023 here.
Because ppl were crying for years about them not getting paid, and now that they see the result, they’ve changed their mind
I haven’t heard any OU fans talking smack over that win. We know all too well.
Clemson is headed exactly where Texas was headed. As a Texas fan, just my opinion: They need to let Dabo figure it out
Texas 😂
Dabo’s ego won’t let Dabo figure it out
Man those execs at the top of the pac 12 gotta realize how dumb they are for letting those programs go especially Colorado buf good for the farewell season im excited fod this season
The schools presidents failed the PAC-12 but that's because they don't value athletics unfortunately. The irony is that they don't care about how great this year will be.
I've been thinking the same thing. How would you like to be the guy responsible for the collapse of this conference?
@@62.Cowboy they could've helped with a better deal somewhere to get their players more recognition they guy in charge of that failed
Deion will be at Florida in 2025. Kiffin will replace Saban.@@neneshubby
@@ThreadAndCircuses1 I doubt it. Kiffin has never proved to be a championship level coach. I respect him but he’s won nothing.
I’m happy for Joel that Colorado has a respectable program again
Respectable? Hardly.
Some things are more important than winning at all costs.
Clemson has not had a deep threat receivers these last two years. They won't win without another Ross, Williams, Higgins, Hopkins, or Watkins.🐯🐅
Great stuff Joel #FightOn 🏈💖👍
Three years ago, if I were the #1 recruit and I would be guaranteed to start at any school, I would have went to Clemson. Today, I’d go to Georgia or Bama.
Perhaps losing Brent Venables was at least a minor factor?
100%
Is Clemson 2023 like Michigan 2007? The thing to do is NOT to panic and hire the wrong head coach. Michigan was in the wilderness for a full decade.

Joel klatt & Rico knows the cfb duo we never knew we needed!!

One thing is certain-the PAC definitely has the most elite QB room in the nation…perhaps ever
The Texas-Clemson analogy is amazingly spot on
Just my opinion but ive been saying Dabo is an overrated coach for years. He had Deshaun and Lawrence back to back and hasnt done much before or after those 2
After watching the first qtr of the Clemson game and was so confused why they didn’t run the ball way more!!
Dabo stuck in his ways and I love it Clemson ain't got the athletes like they once had #GO NOLES
Take care of Keon for us - MSU fan 😭😭😭😭
@@lt.aldoraine9405 we definitely will lol
Clemson had a great run of truly elite QBs...but after Trevor Lawrence, they have had less than average college QBs trying to run the offense.
I am surprised with their success over the last 5-8 years that they haven't been able to recruit a really good one...but such is the way of college football these days.
DJ wasn’t bad. He’s clearly better then who they have now. They shouldn’t of run him off
can't win at an elite level anymore without good receivers.
Pac 12 is a great product for tv. My dad isnt a football guy. Dude was glued to the tv for colorado and oregons games
Two of the biggest reasons for the death of the Pac12 were 1) far too many viewers did not have access to the Pac12 network 2) most viewers didn't want to stay up way past midnight to watch the games. I agree, many of their games are fun to watch.
Joel was spot on. This is coming from a Canes fan.
Clemson fell from the elite tier in 2021. Now we have fallen from the ranks of the good.
So we're going to act like Lincoln Riley didn't do the pretty much the same thing last year. Or even mel Tucker a year before at Michigan State
CU football is garbage. Always will be.
"Adapt or Die" words any business owner can live by
Clemson, like Miami, had a run but they aren’t Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, USC, or Oklahoma class elite. You have to be close to the top for 50 plus years to be called elite.
Michigan?
@@TT-wu5zq yeah, Michigan. 11 nattys, most all time wins in Div. 1
Great point. I would add Notre Dame and Penn State. Those are the 7 Elite blue-blood CFB programs.
Colt McCoy was the man at Texas he’s was that good
I don't personally believe the Pac-12 has a top 5 team right now, but you can't deny it's the most complete conference right now.
I'm a Bama fan, but I wouldn't count Dabo out so soon.
Anytime you get blown our by duke it's over
I think Dabo messed up when he showed fear for Ohio St. by ranking them out of the playoffs. His interviews after that, I felt the players saw his fear
PSU adapted. Paterno is forced out in 2011, severe sanctions in 2012, and win the B1G by 2016. Everyone thought it'd take 10 years to recover. It took less than 5.
Joel Klatt is a BEAST!!!

@@prairiephan he talks, you squawk
Clemson isn’t recruiting as well because everyone else can pay players too, not just them and Alabama
Right on point Klatt.
You’re my go-to on CFB. Great podcasts, JK.
When it comes to Clemson it is a lack of using the transfer portal
The transfer portal can make an average team great( Colorado) and Clemson has been put on notice.
When Tennessee, UNC, South Carolina started recruiting better and Dabo refused to use the portal it was over
Put this man on college game day!!
College Game Day sucks. Keep Joel at Fox
Hello Joel, can you please briefly talk about Michigan State? What’s your assessment on my Spartans this year?
Sammy Brown de commit??
His two points also overlap with the NIL scenario. Clemson has been going downhill since NIL money came about. Which screams top talent kids don’t have to come from Ohio down to Clemson anymore. They can go wherever and get the money. So why go to Clemson then.
Jack Plummer also transferred out of PAC 12 and playing for Louisville (ACC) now. Looked horrible first half against GT, looked like a top 30 qb in the second half
Joel use to be my favorite!! He has let his emotions cloud his judgment.
Joel, you don't need to tell the Buffs to be prepared. They can't even wear red in the building.
Dabo has no one to blame but Dabo. I actually hate Clemson but it still makes me a little sad anytime a powerhouse program nosedives.
How about Jefferson of Arkansas ? He reminds me of Cam Newton? He is hard to tackle.
Pac 12 has been deepest for many years everybody just now noticing it
I'm glad DJ got out of there.
Coaches did not make DJ overthrow receivers or make bad reads
@Matt101984 But they didn't develop his throws. He had a strong arm, but that was it. Coaching Qbs up means when QBs come in, they actually learn something. Not everyone can develop QBs. DJ never improved on reads and being able to make all the throws that QB need to. Is that a coaching thing???
Some coaches can do it, and some coaches can't. Again, most weak coaches blame the players.
@@Saberwolves84 If the coaches didn't teach him how to make correct reads, then wasn't it the coaches fault?
@@JohnOdermott by college you should be able to make reads so many excuses for him
I'm a big Washington fan, graduated there but also went to CU a few years in the late '80s, so I agree that Pac12 is the deepest conference and has the best QB depth, but if I'm looking at the SEC I'd have to give it up for KJ Jefferson at Arkansas. That guy is a beast. Arkansas kicked a can around this week - like many big programs do - but their QB/RB duo is a problem. I think he may be the best QB in the SEC. If they had an OL or a couple dangerous receivers they'd be in business.
I don’t see Colorado losing their first home game this season.
Clemson looked a lot better with Brent Venables on staff. He left, and Clemson doesn't look like Clemson. Maybe it wasn't Dabo actually leading Clemson to success.
Clemson after Brent Venables is what Clemson was before Brent Venables. Point me to the big mystery. Why isn't this what was expected to happen?
Love joel klatt
I hope Sammy brown signs with OU
I hope Joel does a check in on the Iowa fanbase. After scoring two TDs on their first two possessions, Brian Ferentz probably felt good about that 25 ppg mark. Then they ended up with only 24 points against Utah State. They needed to run the score up to have a cushion. Now he's already behind.

"All the sudden..." Dude is killing me with this. Chalk on blackboard.
Deion wins one game, he's the best? Dabo loses a few over a few years, all of a sudden he's done? Make it make sense!
Georgia did that to most everyone they played but just a PAC 12 school
@@wesleyowens4089 yeah they were very good last year. Got some holes to fill but will be right up there this year too.
I'm fearful Ohio State is going down. However, its recruiting classes are still ranked in the top 5, if not, in the top 10. Ryan Day needs a new O Line coach 'cause the running game is not playing well. It shows when OSU is trying to score from the 5 yard line or closer.
If you think tOSU is “going down” because they had an ugly game against Indiana? 😂 You’re a delusional spoiled fan. You sound like an Oklahoma fan
OSU might have an off year and not make the playoffs this year but theyer not in decline. It’s not like they lost to Duke or somethin
Dabo's position on NIL and the transfer portal will make him the Atari of college coaching. Outdated and defunct.
