People can say all the bullshit on how girls can dress up as Ghostbusters now, even though nothing stopped them in the first place, not to mention nobody even saw the film (rumor has it, there were empty theaters on opening day) and the sad part is, the real misogynists in the film industry will look at this and say the film tanked because of women (looking at you, Ike Perlmutter)

My brother and I are operating under a theory that Hemsworth's character is supposed to be a parody of all the bimbo female characters in movies that were so common around the same time as the original Ghostbusters came out. That they wanted to show how terrible it was to portray anyone in such a manner. But since we are at a point in which a female under this archetype wouldn't be noticed, they used a male character to really show us how insulting a character like that is to a gender.

Sometimes bad guys have stupid plans that should never work, but they pull it off. I'm okay with that. Besides, starting with a human bad guy means that when Zuul, Gozer, Nyarlathotep, and the Boogeyman show up it will feel like an escalation of the threat. Vigo felt like a step down.
I think they just had a "What If" comic where the GBs did NOT do the thing they're were not suppose to do... and it had it where Gozer traveled in time to get a new form (something similar to Spongebob) only to rage quit and leave, too upset to destroy a world.
I actually liked the movie. It's not classic original but it was decent. I think there was this strange demand that it must be a flawless masterpiece otherwise everyone must hate it. And instead we just got something that was OKAY.
Thing is, OKAY can be worse than bad. Nostalgia Critic said roughly the same thing about Water World: it has some good moments and it has some bad moments, but nothing to make you really remember it. Plan 9 From Outerspace and The Room are bad movies, but they are so bad they became unintentional comedy gold! Sadly, GB is middling for a movie, and like Water World is a costly venture in mediocrity.

Actually the Stay Puft episode from the animated series did show one thing that the movies lacked. They aren't just zapping and imprisoning the ghosts and hoping it fades away, they are actually rehabilitating these wayward souls to be released later to either cross over or just be a supernatural part of society.
As someone who read the comic, yes, that is the Ghost of Jake Blues from Blues Brothers. It doesn't say it out right in the comic, he just refers to himself as a "Spirit Guide" but it's intentionally obvious.
LOVE the comic! And I love little nods like that, Eugene Levi as Louis' cousin from a deleted scene of Ghostbusters 2 and John Candy as a neighbor in Dana's building. It's nice little touches that make the book great.

In the TRG cartoon, they knew they were taking a chance - Stay-Puft became a powerful vessel but absent Gozer's presence. Lumbering and dangerous for how big he was, but no longer the Destructor.

I know what it's like to find out that not everything that you loved from your childhood was all that great and that it would sucked from the beginning, because you didn't noticed it, until now. It happened to me, when I started to re-watch all three seasons of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on netflix, last year. And I just came to the sudden conclusion that I just cannot stand the first season of MMPR, any more because of the fact that it doesn't really have much of a story, except for the "Green with Evil" mini-series. Then there was TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze and that was just really disappointing to me. Maybe we were too blinded by nostalgia after all. Oh well. Still, I'm actually glad that I chose not to watch the 2016 "remake" of Ghostbusters because I actually heard that it was just a diet version of the original. Where they tried not to piss off fans of the original, but failed to actually make the movie its own thing for the sake of "nostalgia". Some times I hate it when Hollywood tries to make a different incarnation to a newer audience by "recapturing nostalgia from the original" aka "shamelessly retreading and rehashing elements from the original material" just to appeal to a new demographic that isn't familiar with the existing property.

Eh, if anyone cared about the lore they wouldn't have the ending be the girls fighting Scooby Doo leftover effects (and not capturing them) In the IDW comics, when a rival team of evil, incompetent Ghostbusters started "killing" ghosts, it turns out they just get stronger and merge into a superghost. Something tells me if Sony's gonna make a sequel, they won't address this.

I honestly feel that, like a lot of people, you were looking for something to hate and hold onto so you that you wouldn't like this movie. Seriously, I saw someone complaining about the AGE of the actresses, being an average of 5 years older than the original. To be fair, I fully agree with every other criticism you had at the start of the video, but the bulk of this video, I just don't agree with. Yeah, Rowan chooses his destructor form just because and it's played lightly, but that's just the point. Unlike Gozer, he wasn't some all powerful entity trying to instill fear into everyone or govern by inter dimensional rules. He was screwing with the Ghostbusters mentally. He was a cocky punk and COULD have stayed in Kevin's body the whole time from what I gathered. The way he answers the call of "show yourself" with "Ok, what should I be?" didn't sound to me like they had to choose his form. That's him fucking with them and being a bully, like someone saying "give me back my backpack" and they throw it in a three. I'm pretty sure Rowan had full choice of his form, especially since the first thing that was yelled out "a target".

This is total fan theory here but a fairly well known explanation for Reformed Stay Puft is that he's a separate ghost that took on the Gozer form. Wouldn't explain how he can take on Murray The Mantis who is quoted in said episode as having PKE levels rivaling Gozers but hey, if DBZ Abridged taught us anything. it's that power levels are bullshit.

CR you just made me realize something, Rowan is almost exactly like Ivo. Think about it they're both geniuses and insane, they both hate the current state of the world within their respective timelines and they both figured out a way to breach the spirit world and cause a haunted Armageddon. Have you ever heard of the video game DragonQuest8: Journey of the Cursed King ??? Kinda sounds like the plot of that game; where you fight a demonic god who possesses a bunch of different people and you have to fight each of them off... then you eventually meet the "Real Villain" and he's a gigantic floating purple fat guy with tentacles and horns... I kid you not... (BTW that game is really fun).
A crazy theory on my part an not sure if anyone else might of come up with the same or close to it idea or not. Wild guess if Rowan might of had another place holding the books an notes he got hold of say from Ivo Shandor an others might of been in another place, someplace might of been besides the basement of the hotel. 2 questions that I'm sure one or more others might of asked. With all the tech Rowan had down there, how did he get it past all the people working there and get it set up? Are there others that would be down there working as well in that part of the building or was that part of the he found by him an forgotten about by the others? He wanted to take something of theirs to further mock them as the form that he would kill them with and then proceed to destroy all of Humanity. When Patty said "something small and cute" he had his opening. "Something like this?" Patty: Yes. Rowan "well... if that's what you want..." Now he didn't stay small or cute like Patty wanted so he was always in control of what corporeal form he had. He never gave them control. He was giving one final trolling moment in his cockiness before he would kill them. They however escaped his sight before he could crush them and he moved on to begin his NYC assault. Gozer gave control as part of how that god operated and was stuck with whatever form that came about but Rowan deliberately choose for himself while giving an illusion of control. Thinking over and discovering things about this movie relieved to me the potential but failed execution on many aspects of this film. I feel that most likely they had 3 hours of film but Sony wanted it down to 2 (allowing more movie showtimes in the theaters) thus editing had it cut down to be 2 hours but what I discovered or clued to be cut I felt served the plot and characterization of the Ghostbusters ladies and their villain. I feel with test audiences they could of discovered what jokes worked and what fell flat (even the cameo parts if it didn't contribute anything overall) and edit those parts down but keep critical story and character elements in making less of a "comedy" and more of a rounded: horror, comedy, drama, character study but most of all a solid movie. The ghostbusters (Erin, Abby, Patty, and the one who seems to be the fan favorite for many Jillian) themselves I found them interesting and I liked them alot so I wouldn't mind seeing them again but with a different marketing team, editing team, director (Ivan Reitman would be the best 'olive branch' director to have psychological) and maybe have one more writer to simply look over the script and give some insight and ideas that don't have to be followed but could still prove helpful if presented well.
ST Until Sony actually says they're not making a sequel you shouldn't say with certainty there won't be one. Likewise I can't say with certainty there will be one, only that I hope there will be.

James Bevan although, for a movie adaptation, if he were just a side villain, maybe just have him be a possessed kid or something, like his shadow is the grundles outline and he walks like the Exorcist and pukes and stuff, but it's just a normal kid otherwise. it's a shame that a few of the ideas the film had were actually kind of cool. the varied designs of the ghost and the multiple weapons were awesome. It just needed to do its own thing and NOT keep hold of the first film with cameos from the original actors, and so on. I feel like Sony had a bunch of hands in the punch bowl and probably why the film from a talented group of individuals and a director who has made good films, was such a mess. It's not bad, and I think its hilarious that after a year of people crying fowl and complaining about the movie, the overall movie was just "okay" Like really? you could have been making a bigger deal about something important, but nope! gotta complain about Ghostbusters 2016 movie!
It's what's been happening to all the Sony stuff recently. Big Neck Spiderman 2, The last Bond film. They want to squeeze so much out of the one thing it ends up watered down or bloated. So like with Ghostbusters, they end up, as we say here, with neither the goat nor the rope.
I really liked the movie but I must say that the villain really was the absolute worst part about it. I mean, lack of depth only works with big villains so it can imply that there is depth that you are just not worthy of seeing, but this guy was so small he just felt flat and evens smaller without the depth :(
He really wasn't. If anything, the absolute worst part was Kevin, and this is coming from someone that actually enjoyed him. The villain was actually a good villain considering how carefully planned out his scheme was. Compare that to say, Hans of Frozen, whose plan lacks foresight and has a major flaw: he could never ascend the throne; he would always be a prince. Plus, the villain's a shadow archetype to Erin Gilbert.
jacoblgames Kevin was indeed a hit or miss, but I disagree on the villain thing. I also don't think it's a strong argument comparing this villain to the villain in Frozen. I honestly don't care how well thought out the plan was, I don't care about this guy! I had the same problem with Hans in Frozen. "who the fuck is this guy?" I asked both times, I never got a proper answer it doesn't matter how well put together the evil plan is if I don't find the guy making the plan interesting or compelling.

They weren't bombs. They were charging the ley lines and amplifying paranormal energy. Basically, Rowan was a ripoff of the game even down to possessing an ally and floating around in their body. Feig and Dippold plagiarized the game whether they knew it or not. They also brought back the Marshmallow Man more than once and it was generally considered that, for the show, he and Gozer were two separate characters.

Not true. The 3D was good. Because of the 3D, you could see just how damn big that one machine Holtzmann made was. Besides adding depth it also caused the sparks from the electric ghost to come out of the screen. Patty is actually the character that Winston was supposed to be. She was established early on and her expertise in the city's paranormal history was useful to the team, though Winston would have been the most technically capable member of the Ghostbusters. The visual effects were actually awesome. It's genuinely funny throughout the movie. If that's not enough then read some positive reviews. Do some research too.

Kinda reminds me of that Transformers game where they just used the Decepticon logo as one of the bosses or whatever. ...though I actually thought Kevin was hilarious...

My brother and I are operating under a theory that Hemsworth's character is supposed to be a parody of all the bimbo female characters in movies that were so common around the same time as the original Ghostbusters came out. That they wanted to show how terrible it was to portray anyone in such a manner. But since we are at a point in which a female under this archetype wouldn't be noticed, they used a male character to really show us how insulting a character like that is to a gender.

Besides, starting with a human bad guy means that when Zuul, Gozer, Nyarlathotep, and the Boogeyman show up it will feel like an escalation of the threat. Vigo felt like a step down.
I think they just had a "What If" comic where the GBs did NOT do the thing they're were not suppose to do... and it had it where Gozer traveled in time to get a new form (something similar to Spongebob) only to rage quit and leave, too upset to destroy a world.

I actually liked the movie. It's not classic original but it was decent. I think there was this strange demand that it must be a flawless masterpiece otherwise everyone must hate it. And instead we just got something that was OKAY.
Thing is, OKAY can be worse than bad. Nostalgia Critic said roughly the same thing about Water World: it has some good moments and it has some bad moments, but nothing to make you really remember it. Plan 9 From Outerspace and The Room are bad movies, but they are so bad they became unintentional comedy gold! Sadly, GB is middling for a movie, and like Water World is a costly venture in mediocrity.
Okay, sucks. The fact that you and so many like you think that okay is acceptable is the very reason why we get just okay movies instead of good movies.

Actually the Stay Puft episode from the animated series did show one thing that the movies lacked. They aren't just zapping and imprisoning the ghosts and hoping it fades away, they are actually rehabilitating these wayward souls to be released later to either cross over or just be a supernatural part of society.

As someone who read the comic, yes, that is the Ghost of Jake Blues from Blues Brothers. It doesn't say it out right in the comic, he just refers to himself as a "Spirit Guide" but it's intentionally obvious.
LOVE the comic! And I love little nods like that, Eugene Levi as Louis' cousin from a deleted scene of Ghostbusters 2 and John Candy as a neighbor in Dana's building. It's nice little touches that make the book great.
IDW Ghostbusters is such a treat for the real die hard fans, with all the little references sprinkled around like the toppings on a delicious cupcake.
After being called a sexist, racist, bigot, and an an asshole for mere saying "This movie looks like crap"......this remake will never receive my money or time. Much like Robocop, Poltergeist, The Omen, Total Recall, Ben-Hur and the countless other remakes that have wasted our time, this garbage will forgotten in comparison to it's predecessors. I encourage all GB fans just to go buy anything else related to the original cast of characters like the The Video Game, The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, the Ghostbusters LEGO sets or anything else to influence the brand.

In the TRG cartoon, they knew they were taking a chance - Stay-Puft became a powerful vessel but absent Gozer's presence. Lumbering and dangerous for how big he was, but no longer the Destructor.

I know how you feel, man. I know what it's like to find out that not everything that you loved from your childhood was all that great and that it would sucked from the beginning, because you didn't noticed it, until now. It happened to me, when I started to re-watch all three seasons of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on netflix, last year. And I just came to the sudden conclusion that I just cannot stand the first season of MMPR, any more because of the fact that it doesn't really have much of a story, except for the "Green with Evil" mini-series. Then there was TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze and that was just really disappointing to me. Maybe we were too blinded by nostalgia after all. Oh well. Still, I'm actually glad that I chose not to watch the 2016 "remake" of Ghostbusters because I actually heard that it was just a diet version of the original. Where they tried not to piss off fans of the original, but failed to actually make the movie its own thing for the sake of "nostalgia". Some times I hate it when Hollywood tries to make a different incarnation to a newer audience by "recapturing nostalgia from the original" aka "shamelessly retreading and rehashing elements from the original material" just to appeal to a new demographic that isn't familiar with the existing property.

In the IDW comics, when a rival team of evil, incompetent Ghostbusters started "killing" ghosts, it turns out they just get stronger and merge into a superghost. Something tells me if Sony's gonna make a sequel, they won't address this.

I honestly feel that, like a lot of people, you were looking for something to hate and hold onto so you that you wouldn't like this movie. Seriously, I saw someone complaining about the AGE of the actresses, being an average of 5 years older than the original. To be fair, I fully agree with every other criticism you had at the start of the video, but the bulk of this video, I just don't agree with.
Yeah, Rowan chooses his destructor form just because and it's played lightly, but that's just the point. Unlike Gozer, he wasn't some all powerful entity trying to instill fear into everyone or govern by inter dimensional rules. He was screwing with the Ghostbusters mentally. He was a cocky punk and COULD have stayed in Kevin's body the whole time from what I gathered. The way he answers the call of "show yourself" with "Ok, what should I be?" didn't sound to me like they had to choose his form. That's him fucking with them and being a bully, like someone saying "give me back my backpack" and they throw it in a three. I'm pretty sure Rowan had full choice of his form, especially since the first thing that was yelled out "a target".

This is total fan theory here but a fairly well known explanation for Reformed Stay Puft is that he's a separate ghost that took on the Gozer form. Wouldn't explain how he can take on Murray The Mantis who is quoted in said episode as having PKE levels rivaling Gozers but hey, if DBZ Abridged taught us anything. it's that power levels are bullshit.

CR you just made me realize something, Rowan is almost exactly like Ivo. Think about it they're both geniuses and insane, they both hate the current state of the world within their respective timelines and they both figured out a way to breach the spirit world and cause a haunted Armageddon. Of course I'm most likely giving to much thought into this but hey that's just something I do sometimes.
The difference is Ivo had time, resources, followers and a reasonable amount of each. Rowan is a walking deus ex machina!

Now for him and the power of choice he gave the Ghostbusters. He really didn't.
Having now great power he became the bully and wanted to further mock and kill the Ghostbusters who was the only ones who could even have a small chance of threatening him and tried to stop his master plan from happening. However he was cocky and instead of taking control or just killing them he toyed and trolled them. Taking over one of them, having his ghost army to attack them, then getting in on the action but first further trolling the Ghostbusters before he went for his kill. He was messing with them when he asked "What form would you like me to take?" Now in reality he already had a idea of what his form would be against them (he drew it before in a cafe). He wanted to take something of theirs to further mock them as the form that he would kill them with and then proceed to destroy all of Humanity. When Patty said "something small and cute" he had his opening. "Something like this?" Patty: Yes. Rowan "well... if that's what you want..." Now he didn't stay small or cute like Patty wanted so he was always in control of what corporeal form he had.
He never gave them control. He was giving one final trolling moment in his cockiness before he would kill them.
They however escaped his sight before he could crush them and he moved on to begin his NYC assault.
Gozer gave control as part of how that god operated and was stuck with whatever form that came about but Rowan deliberately choose for himself while giving an illusion of control.
Thinking over and discovering things about this movie relieved to me the potential but failed execution on many aspects of this film. I feel that most likely they had 3 hours of film but Sony wanted it down to 2 (allowing more movie showtimes in the theaters) thus editing had it cut down to be 2 hours but what I discovered or clued to be cut I felt served the plot and characterization of the Ghostbusters ladies and their villain.
I feel with test audiences they could of discovered what jokes worked and what fell flat (even the cameo parts if it didn't contribute anything overall) and edit those parts down but keep critical story and character elements in making less of a "comedy" and more of a rounded: horror, comedy, drama, character study but most of all a solid movie.
The ghostbusters (Erin, Abby, Patty, and the one who seems to be the fan favorite for many Jillian) themselves I found them interesting and I liked them alot so I wouldn't mind seeing them again but with a different marketing team, editing team, director (Ivan Reitman would be the best 'olive branch' director to have psychological) and maybe have one more writer to simply look over the script and give some insight and ideas that don't have to be followed but could still prove helpful if presented well.

James Bevan although, for a movie adaptation, if he were just a side villain, maybe just have him be a possessed kid or something, like his shadow is the grundles outline and he walks like the Exorcist and pukes and stuff, but it's just a normal kid otherwise. That's just how I think it would fold into that Universe anyway... Since there seems to be some dissonance between the two realities.

it's a shame that a few of the ideas the film had were actually kind of cool. the varied designs of the ghost and the multiple weapons were awesome.
It just needed to do its own thing and NOT keep hold of the first film with cameos from the original actors, and so on.
I feel like Sony had a bunch of hands in the punch bowl and probably why the film from a talented group of individuals and a director who has made good films, was such a mess. I really liked the movie but I must say that the villain really was the absolute worst part about it. I mean, lack of depth only works with big villains so it can imply that there is depth that you are just not worthy of seeing, but this guy was so small he just felt flat and evens smaller without the depth :(
He really wasn't. If anything, the absolute worst part was Kevin, and this is coming from someone that actually enjoyed him. The villain was actually a good villain considering how carefully planned out his scheme was. Compare that to say, Hans of Frozen, whose plan lacks foresight and has a major flaw: he could never ascend the throne; he would always be a prince. Plus, the villain's a shadow archetype to Erin Gilbert.

They weren't bombs. They were charging the ley lines and amplifying paranormal energy. Basically, Rowan was a ripoff of the game even down to possessing an ally and floating around in their body. Feig and Dippold plagiarized the game whether they knew it or not.
They also brought back the Marshmallow Man more than once and it was generally considered that, for the show, he and Gozer were two separate characters.

Holtzman was the only good thing about the movie. Everything else is dumb. It baffles me that there are some people like this film.
Not true. The 3D was good. Because of the 3D, you could see just how damn big that one machine Holtzmann made was. Besides adding depth it also caused the sparks from the electric ghost to come out of the screen. Patty is actually the character that Winston was supposed to be. She was established early on and her expertise in the city's paranormal history was useful to the team, though Winston would have been the most technically capable member of the Ghostbusters. The visual effects were actually awesome. It's genuinely funny throughout the movie. If that's not enough then read some positive reviews. Do some research too.

Not really. The villain was a shadow archetype to Erin and he was using their logo against them. That's good writing.

Great video. The movie is bad but its not god awful. A c- movie could be better but its not. Sony is just an ass hole. At the endof the day. They made this movie shit.
