You definitely picked the right guy to explain how a serpentine should be replaced. Eric O at SMA is top notch. I think he’d be a great instructor for the next generation of mechanics.
I don't do home auto maintenance beyond air filter and cabin filter as I live in a condo complex without a garage and they freak out if you try anything beyond that. I've done my belt before because it's over before anyone can really see what I'm doing. I watch SMA because I really enjoy Eric's personality and professional ethics and the interaction between him and Mrs O is heartwarming.
Cardone picked a great mechanic to represent their company and perform a serpentine belt replacement. Even more awesome is i know Eric's last name now! LOL 😆
I usually inspect the serpentine belt when I check the fluids or do an oil change. The belt on my wife's car was not making any noise but it was missing chunks of rubber out of the belt.
Every town in every state wishes they had a South Main Auto, complete with Eric O, Mrs. O., Big Nasty, copious amounts of break cleaner and plenty of ugga duggas!
I don't know what they're trying to pull, claiming to introduce this "Eric Obrochta" person, when that's CLEARLY Eric O! Engage yer safety squints! (brake clean sound)
My 2006 Honda Odyssey was chirping away with its worn serpentine belt. I bought a replacement belt from O'Reilly's - and the chirping continued. I bought another belt from Autozone - and the chirping continued. Both were brand name belts I've used many times before without any problem on other vehicles. I stopped by Honda and asked their lead mechanic - he said replace it with the Honda belt. Like magic the chirping has now been long gone.
Only thing I had to remove on my 07silverado to change tensioner and ac serpentine belt was the plastic rock guard underneath, I'm still learning but this truck seems easy to work on, but I know I won't be able to do the flexplate without the right equipment.
@@wavoconqueso Hi, we've tested this video and are not seeing any issues on our end. Let us know exactly what you're seeing wrong with the video and we'll try to address it. Thanks!
i don't like to see eric all serious and being introduced all serious-like by some nerd we've never seen before.....i think cardone industries paid eric to be all serious-like and nothing like the old ferocious precocious snogocious who's-jumping-on-the-sofa-again-doggie eric we all know and love......(not a sponsor)
Hi David, this was an entry into our Tech Video contest, which we run just twice per year. None of the entries in this contest are scripted by us since we genuinely want to hear what technicians have to share- especially Eric!
Oh man, I hate doing serpentine belts....just did one two days ago in fact. You get it around a couple of pulleys, go for the third, and it slips off the other two. It took me like 30 minutes, with lots of cussing
Don't be cheap, replace the idler pulley as recommended by the manufacturer (or every other belt change), a weak idler pulley will allow premature wear to the belt. Expect to lose a little skin if you have to replace the belt from the top.
@@CardoneIndustries Yes, it is freezing right when Eric is beginning to talk about the routing of the belt. It happens every time I try to watch the video. I have tried on different days. I have also tried selecting lower resolutions to no avail.
very informative Eric O but forgot slight detail people should be aware of that being that they or no one else rotates the Engine over while the belt is off of or they risk throwing the timing out of whack specially don't want that happening to the valve timing..
Scott Foon,,yes serpentine belts and timing belts are two different things ! I don't think you will confuse anybody with your comment except someone who knows nothing about changing a serpentine belt.
Eric O may be the best mechanic is the world. He’s worth listening to.
Absolutely the best teacher on TH-cam!
i'm here because i watch anything with mr. o in it

Same here from 🇨🇦
It just wasn’t the same without, “Hey there viewers, and welcome back to the South Main Auto Channel.”
@@brianburns7211 Haha that's true, had much more of a dry and to the point approach than usual but still educational :)

and remember viewer's, if I can do it, you can do it.
Eric O. Has the best car repair videos on TH-cam. He is a master mechanic that is very professional.

Love South Main Auto videos.
You made a great choice having Eric O do a video.
I have been following your channel for years and I apply your techniques in my shop whenever I can. Thanks again
Never seen that belt testing tool before. Interesting stuff! Always learn something from SMA...
@southmainauto Eric is the man. The right person for the right job.

It's O 😂
As a DIYer, I'll give Cardone parts a try solely because of these Eric O vids.

That's the same with Toyotas (at least the car I have). If you don't use a Toyota belt, you will get squealing.
Yes hes surely worth a listen

Not a true SMA video: no air compressor.
and no big nasty

What,no welcome back! No brake clean!
Now, I'll go and check the belt on my car.

Wait! What happened to “welcome back”
He changed his NAME to advertise for Mr. Cardone?

Is this the first time we ever get to know Mr. O's actual last name??
he said it in one of his videos once in reference to something his dad used to say to him. I don't remember which one.

This was submitted to our Tech Video contest last year. Eric O. @ South Main Auto would know when he recorded it.
Where's his HAT
My Ram defeats me. My brand new belt squeals. I even checked all the pulleys I just deal with it lol
That's not the same Eric o his head is shaped like a Jeep hat

So that's not exactly what I would call maintenance; it's just routine replacement, which should be done every 10 years or so.
@Frank. T Depends on the mileage, naturally. You can do it every year if you like. No law against that.
Something is not right!!!😰
Don't be cheap, replace the idler pulley as recommended by the manufacturer (or every other belt change), a weak idler pulley will allow premature wear to the belt. Expect to lose a little skin if you have to replace the belt from the top.
George Ford not with today’s tools no sweat doing belts from top. Front wheel drive nissans are the tightest spots
