Guitar arm rest & why you need one - unboxing an Albaguitarbeads guitar armrest.
This could be considered to be a review, but it's more of an introduction to guitar armrests. In this video I explain the type of guitar armrests I have used in the past and why you might want to use an armrest. I personally use guitar armrests all the time and I find them an easy way to make playing the guitar over long periods of time a far more pleasant experience.
In this video I take a look at the Albaguitarbeads guitar armrest because it is held on using rubber suction cups which don't damage the guitar and you can put this armrest on a guitar and take it off as many times as you like safely. It is particularly useful if you have several guitars. The Alba guitar Armrest Is the latest addition to the Alba guitar family of accessories for nylon string guitar players. The armrest is fabricated from exceptionally durable PC material, and its surface is decorated with an elaborated wood grain graphic.

The white stickers are for guitars with ope pore guitar finish so the suction cups stick perfectly
ahhh . . thank you for that. I'll mention that in my next video 😃
Keep up the great work, I love the music
Thank you very much . . that's really great to hear 😊😃
nice info ! no nonsense ! thankyou !
I'm really glad you liked it . . thank you 😊😀
Great work! 👍🙏
Thank you 🙌 😊
Thanks for the video.
Just installed this armrest on my Alhambra 4F guitar
I hope you're as happy with it as I am 😊😀
@@guitar-academy Yes Sir, I am.
@@Kevin-nr9lj That's great 😊😀
After hearing people say armrests are needed to help sustain, I did an A/B test recording where I can see the wav form size / length and tried with and without armrest. When without, I really put the weight of my forearm into the guitar. No difference. I use the John Pearce armrest rosewood model btw. Stuck on. The value in it for me is, not getting my sweat / skin cells on the guitar.
Yes, for me the advantage is not getting a sore and bruised forearm after a week in the studio. 😊
My Hippner Parlor guitar came with an armrest, though I'd never seen one before or since
They aren't very common at all. I guess that's part of the reason why I made this video. 😊 😃
Have you tested the dampening effects of the arm rest (with and without an arm on it)?
I tried but it didn't really work on video, when I work out how best to do it I'll try again. 🤔😊

Is there any utility in having the arm rest when playing with a plectrum? Ive been doing some of the fingerstyle lessons but i will also be using a plec when playing in church etc
Good question. . . But sorry I can't answer that, only you know you would find it useful or not. If you find the side of your arm getting sore then you will find it useful. If you play stood up in church then I don't think you would find it useful for that. 😊
@@guitar-academy thanks for the reply, I do both standing and sitting depending on the service. I'm hoping as my playing improves (just getting back into playing after a few years off) that I can include more fingerstyle so I might invest in an arm rest as I like new toys 🤣. Thanks for all your videos they really help!
@@robertstewart1464 Thank you for watching every view and viewer is really appreciated 😊😃
It could be poly carbonate do they make one for electric guitar or is it only for acoustic?
No, one size and sadly that won't fit an electric guitar 😊😃
It seems a bit excessive to add it to the SLG, since the upper "arm" of that instrument is loosely coupled to the instrument, and so it's almost an arm rest by itself.
The SLG has the sharpest top rest of any guitar I've ever used, so it needs a rest to cover the sharp edge. On both my SLG 200N and 200S I've put arm rests and it really makes a difference when you play it for a long time. 🤔
What are your thoughts about pickguards?
That's a harder question to answer than you'd think. I guess It depends on how you play the guitar. they do a good job of protecting the guitar if you're a fast plectrum user, but if all you ever do is gently fingerpick the guitar then a pickguard wouldn't be needed. I don't think they effect the sound very much, or perhaps they do very slightly. 😊😀
Worth noting that for most banjos, armrests are a standard pre-requisite for comfort and anti-damping.
Yes indeed, and trying to play a banjo without an armrest is a nightmare . . 🤔
@@guitar-academy I'm looking at armrests for my Martin 0015-M. I don't like the idea of suckers though. Ever tried the Abel Armrest (German made)?
PC material is polycarbonate... Fancy term for plastic😊
😊
This product os very good. Where can we by it?

Maybe PC = "polycarbonate"?
Yes, you're right 😊
PC = Polycarbonate Bowling Balls , automobile bumpers etc.
I didn't know bowling balls were polycarbonate . . I learn something new everyday 😊😃
@@guitar-academy polycarbonate is the base. There are 1000’s of mixtures. Transparent. Impact resistant. Thermal resistant.
Eye glasses, CDs, medical devices. Machine guards etc. the list is near endless.
Polycarbonate 😉
That was quick . . thank you for that, I've learned something new 😊
@@guitar-academy welcome
PC = PolyCarbonate
Thanks for that . . 😊😃
Just try playing your guitar whitout resting your forearm. I can't hear a difference
Sometimes it's not just about the sound. When I've been playing for hours I can really appreciate one of these or a guitar with a bevelled top.
PC is Polycarbonate

Good man, thank you for that . . complete with wiki link . . 😊
