The Badi Kaliji temple is known for its annual ceremony where the ancient idol of Maa Kali, which is thousands of years old, is taken out for darshan on the Ashtami of Navratri season. Devotees from far and wide come to the temple to seek blessings and fulfil their wishes. The temple is also famous for its Mahamantra of Maa Kali, which is believed to relieve one from all pain and suffering.
Traditionally, the temple used to practice sacrifice on the Navami of every Sharadiya Navratri, but now only the offering of five fruits is made in the tank in front of the mother instead of live animal sacrifices. The temple has a seven hundred-year-old history and it is said that Shankaracharya had installed the idol of Maa Kali here. During the Mughal attacks, the pandits had thrown the idol in a well to protect it and the temple survived with the Deity statue of Lakshmi-Vishnu installed in place of Maa Kali's idol. The temple is also famous for its Ashtadhatu idol.
