One of my very favorite songs because it contains one of my very favorite song lyrics...."You never know why you're alive until you know what you would die for!" Honestly!
"No greater love is found than of those who lay their own lives down." Oh, how true this is... I honestly think that if we were all willing to lay our lives down for those we love, the world would be a much better place. :)
Hope some background enriches. . . Mercy Me wrote this song after hearing about BJ Higgins, a 15 year old who, on a short term missions trip, contracted a disease that 6 months later took his life. Great kid who lived for a great Lord. There is a 6 minute video on BJ on You Tube with this song as background, done by his parents.
Excuse the previous typo, SDannieG: I hope you don't mind my sharing this with you. Of the two I knew who once worked for Prince, one was named Joey, the other Jonathan son of Saul. 1Samuel. That was also the name of Israel's first prince. Jonathan is my earliest childhood friend. One Saturday, when we were seven years old, someone showed up at the local temple in the 'hood' where we lived. Dr. Martin Luther King. I was literally sitting outside this temple, on my bicycle that day, and didn't get to meet him (shame). This was a month after his-"I have a dream" speech. About 25 years later, he was working for Prince, Jonathan son of Saul. He heard many live rendition's of Prince's "I Would Die For You." Btw, I've seen MercyMe perform live. It was in a 'mega-church' run by a member of 'Jew For Jesus' in the Wash, D.C. area. John 20: "My L-rd, My G-d", to think that I still doubted you in those days. No more, amen.
The one who is still alive, who used to work for Prince, I was with him when I heard this song for the first time: Rick James' "You And I". The end of the second verse: "If by chance there is an afterlife, I hope it will be for you and I." I hope you don't too much my sharing with you, SDannieG. That, and much else, helped open me up to accepting the L-rd.
I especially like the line: "Even if surrending means leaving everything behind." I'm sure you know, SDannieG, that 'I Would Die For You' was also the title of a song by Prince. I had two close friends who worked for Prince at one time. One alive, one not with us anymore. And though none of us were believers when I knew them, looking back I can see the L-rd's hand behind it all. Amen.
"I Would Die For You" by Prince, from his 'Purple Rain'. I had two close friends who worked for him at one time. One of them is now dead. He once received a Christmas present from David Bowie (for whom they also worked at couple of times). They also worked at one time for Peter Frampton. From his "Frampton Comes Alive" recording: "Show Me The Way". John 14:5.
If God showed you what his perfect love was then the answer will always be yes because Jesus died for so much more
Amen the reason why we are here is to praise and die for HIM....
