This video literally changed my life. I'm not kidding. I watched it the day it came out, and I changed the way I worked with hardware because of it. The influence of this video has stuck with me to this day. Cheers.
Thank you. Electronic music is just as musical and requires just as much skill to create as say rock or even classical. People say its not music because its created mainly on computers, but the computer is an instrument itself (not to mention all of the keyboards, midi controllers, mixers etc. used aswell). It deserves just as much respect as any other music genre.
He is an artist and he is playing a real instrument, music is everything and can be anything, music is what sounds enjoyable to you, it doesn't matter what or how you produce that joy.
Same here, man. I love making dubstep as well as listening to it as loud as my speakers can go. At the same time I study drums at a music college, being heavily influenced by a lot of jazz and funk artists.
@TRAVIS GRAFTON quit trollin, only takes 3 seconds to google search it. Says the earliest found beta stage type of dubstep music was noted to as early as 1999. And it was accidental. You have just been educated.
I remember when I was 16, I spend around $850 on a PC with a 500mhz AMD processor and 6gb hard disk. It sounds weak by todays standards, but guess what? It ran fruity loops absolutely perfectly. I was able to put together some pretty nice two step/grime/dubstep/hip hop beats and even build the bones of rock tracks to play guitar along to. Today the average persons cell phone is 4 times as powerful, people do not realise the tools they have.
A few years ago, I read an interview saying "all you need to make music is your own drive and dedication- if you have that you can use a bucket and some sticks to make a sick beat" Whoever said that is onto something. Back in the day, dudes were pausing cassettes and recording onto another blank tape to make a beat. Start experimenting with everything you can find, man. That is the best advice anyone can give you, because it means you will discover the rest as you go. Good luck man.
***** Yeah you've been producing this kinda stuff for 15 and you still can't play any instrument? Guessin you ain't too famous or successful then I've certainly never heard of you. Try making music with melodies and chord progressions and you know, notes?
The definition of instrument is as follows. Instrument 1. A means by which something is done 2. One used by another to accomplish a purpose 3. An implement used to facilitate work 4. A device for recording, measuring, or controlling, especially such a device functioning as part of a control system. 5. Music A device for playing or producing music According to the definition of instrument anything used to make and or produce music is an instrument. I believe a computer is in fact, an instrument.
Bassnectar has been making electronic music for 10+ years and Pretty Lights 6+years. I think once you've been a very successful and popular artist for over 5 years you've become a veteran of the genre. Hence you know all the ins and outs and know how to not let your fans down song after song. Daft Punk however is a good example of someone who has surpassed being a veteran and has crossed in to legend of sorts, they racked up 19 years of producing Electronic music.
Good to see people still knocking shit out on pads/hardware and not just software...sick video. I think I caught you playing a set in SF @ the Low End Theory quite a few months back.....Great set!! you, young Montana, and D-styles...dope.
He still has the ability to know when something sounds good or not. I'll give him musicianship credit for that. Being a musician myself - when improvising, I also play "random" notes in the scale, of the key, that I know would work but not necessarily sound good. Perhaps this makes things clear for other people reading. I also prefer the melodic approach tho!
I like this style of making dubstep. Basically the same premise of having 10-15 instances of Massive open with different patches and LFOs at different rates. I do this in Logic sometimes. I'll bounce like 15 different bass sounds from Massive then put them in the esx24. Then start to play around with different combinations to the beat.
1 uk started in the late 90s as underground club style music was made famous in part from a youtube channel called ukf which actually stands for united kingdom funky. it is now one of the fastest growing genres of all time 2 example flux pavilion metrik roksonix sub focus skream 3 wobble base a bpm of 120 to around 140 generally start with drop that has a dum beat then adds high hats other random beats and synths and get more intense then the bass drops
Sí, pero esta máquina es un tipo de sampler. Cuando grabas un sonido y lo utiliza en una canción, el proceso se llama sampling (él está grabando los sonidos del teclado en el MPC 5000).
Having been a musician the last 11 years of my life making music from regular instruments and recording them it sure does take a hell of a lot of work but in the last year i've just started making music electronically like this and it's a whole new ball field and very complicated but when you get the hang it gets easier but people shouldn't be ripping on it, it's not press a button and you have a song. It's actually tougher than making music with regular instruments
Why would you feel stupid after seeing him self he did great man. Don't listen to the haters I don't I just listen and let it push me to greater heights so I'd like to give a shout out to all the haters for making us pimps players in hustlers much better at what we do (thank you)
I completely understand how in a live application traditional instruments would require more effort and be more stressful than EDM music in a live application as EDM sets are usually prepared prior to the show.
midi controllers and mixers possibly not, and to be fair, you don't need to know all music theory (keys, scales, structure, harmony....) so i understand when people say it takes no effort, although yes, you're right, it takes a LOT of work (although it is easier than stuff like classical music).
I agree with you 100%, Ive played guitar and drums for 10 years, and I have been making electronic music for atleast 4 years. Electronic music is getting more popular also and its fun as hell to make, playing it live is a real task, most people just press a button and "DJ" it. Makes me think of Skrillex winning 3 grammys and they didnt even show it on TV. It pisses me off that they show all that mainstream taylor swift shit but they cant show skrillex win a grammy.
I agree. Any rock band instrument (Disavowing the drums) is harder to learn even if you're musically talented. with a Dubstep pad it's easier if you have a sense of rhythm and dynamics. It's not like you pick up a guitar and become Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton, It's more effort making yourself awesome, with a dubstep pad it's more like 'teach me in two seconds'. However the Dubstep pad is just a mix of a drum beat and techno, meaning it's still music and it's still derived from the old genre's.
You are truly the only guy i know who gladly interupts him self with what he call's a chain saw sound... lol.. idk wtf kind of chain saw you where using but you probly caused a power serg if it made that sound.
1. United Kingdom (England to be exact) 2. Flux Pavilion, Benga, Skream, Gemini, and James Blake. 3. Typically a 70 or 140 bpm, give or take 1 or 2, dubstep uses an heavy, overwhelming emphasis on bass drum comparable to UK drum and bass & grime. There is a less emphasis on higher synths in the more original stuff.
+Spider Man A lot of it is kind of experimentation to find what you like, you figure out what things do as you play with them. Lots of midi controllers allow you to assign their buttons and knobs to do different things in the music program you're using, so they'll be used differently by everybody. Once you figure it out a lot of those kind of things are purely for efficiency and workflow.
I watch this video like 10 times a day. Im obsessed with dubstep and ive heard them all bro, but this shit blows everything out the water. and u did it so easily like it was nothing, and you chose some badass samples and made it into a masterpiece. My problem is WHERE CAN I GET FULL VERSION!? I have search everywhere and cant find it. I even looked at the site you provided and nothing...Can you please send me a personal message with this info. Thanks. Keep makin those sick tracks
Wow using one of those things looks less difficult than i imagined. I wanna get one of those machines for my bday. My dad would definitely know how to use one of those things.
You hit the nail on the head. But to be honest after 16 years of playing guitar I'm kinda fed up of the thin twangy sound. Im even a bit jealous of how full of a sound one person can make with a computer compared to me on my own. Im thinking about getting into making some beats n stuff. Gonna combine it with actually playing instruments too.+ When I'm pissed off and my head is fried from trying to work out all this new shit I know playing a guitar will be so easy and relaxing to come back to!
Back in the 90's the best dance and drum n base was made on Akai samplers that run from a floppy disk containing 1.44mb of wav samples. Anyhow, I bought my PC & software with saved up pocket change+paper round. I was very much from the "hood".
1.)The UK, south london to be exact! 2.) Flux Pavillion, Chrispy, Doctor P, Nero, Borgore 3.)Wubs, Wobs, Wobbles, Fast basslines, Slow Basslines, 3,8,16 bit etc basslines, Heavy and light Bassline,Heavy/filthy Modulated Basslines, you also have kicks and snares, Leads, Symbols and high hats, sound Effects and dont forget the drop!! DID I GET AN "A"???? XD :P
I do completely agree with this statement...However, as an avid guitar/bass/piano player for the last 15+ years, I can honestly say it takes just a "bit" more skill/talent/coordination or whatever you may call it to play a "typical" instrument in real time. What you are seeing here is more of composing/arranging music rather than playing it in real time/on the spot. I give them credit for being able to create amazing musical compositions rather than being great at playing a "typical" instrument
So play them! Just because someone uses a different means to create music doesn't mess up music - a limited mind messes up the music! Musicians use any and everything to make music from Korg sythesizers to plungers and buckets on street corners - this is all just the next step in the evolution of music it doesn't take away from any other aspect of those that use instruments if anything it puts you at an advantage if you ever choose to expand your musical abilities
Think of his keyboard and Drum machine as a programmable instrument - if you think about it, an instrument can be anything from a bucket on the ground to with two sticks or even a computer. Don't forget that anything that can be used creatively to create a harmonious arrangement of sounds is considered an instrument.
I love how people would try to talk shit to this guy, just cause hes got the dopest studio and the straight setup. Hes nasty on the pads too. Oh well only another music maker would truely know...
use a software synth hooked up to a daw like ableton, midi map all the controls you want to your knobs like filters etc. and record that into a midi track. then record the resulting midi track into an audio track (i do this by sending the audio from the midi track out into another track and recording it - this converts midi information into samplable audio), then sampling that and using a software drum rack or something to play back the snippets from your mpk's pads. make any sense at all? haha
Hi, It's cool! Do you have a video of how to makt thos phat sound out of MS2000? I kind of has a same setup (MPC, MS2000R), but it would be great to know the setup of the synth for those kind of sound! Thanx

Here is how you do it: WUBWUBWUBWADAWADAWABZZZZZTSCH ..... and that is how it's done
this is a good technique for making dubstep! imma try this out with my maschine
This isn't a tutorial, he is just showing us that he can make it -_-
oh well
Hi my name is Carrie.🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
That's usually what a tutorial is, but ok.
I think this is great, inspiration wise!
It is if you know what he is doing.. Sorry 😕

It's pretty inexpensive, it's like a 800 dollar keyboard. 0.0 that's very expensive
Why not ask Santa for it
I can't believe he said that, lmao.

Moog is pronounced mow-g (I know I live in the hometown of Moog and have been to the factory personally #moogfest
This is the video ive been looking for ever since i heard dubstep!
This isn't music at all..
Music is what you make it...
Dro Simoes Yeah, shit on that dudes life.
Dro Simoes well theres no melody here theres nothing you could hum to.. sounds pretty wank
***** Yeah you've been producing this kinda stuff for 15 and you still can't play any instrument? Guessin you ain't too famous or successful then I've certainly never heard of you. Try making music with melodies and chord progressions and you know, notes?
Dro Simoes Holy shit it's the Dro
Roland Juno 106. Six voice polyphonic keyboard from the 80s. Great for brasses and warm, lush pads coupled with its lovely chorus effect.
i hear ya brother, i sold my mpc thought i didnt need, but now u made me think i should have kept it. Keep it up, your sick

i always come back to this video. its the fuckin best
holycrap no ableton or serum. i really want an analogue synth now. that thing looks sweet. you are a really god producer. i love you.
I'm pretty sure that keyboard is digital anyway

I had a MPC 2000 XL and can’t handle it. Much respect who can ✊
Dope to see how other peeps work with it.

Bad-ass Dub, Dude!
amazing sound....man...what a vibe....
Was totally confused and had no idea what exactly he was doing, but it sounded awesome!
Now I know how prodigy songs were made! I love this!

That was like a realistic/dubstep version of that scene in Hustle and Flow. epic.
i love that keyboard too - so great

thats a really dope beat bro!

i like this dude he doesn't really give a fuck he's just having fun. "ehh, peaking, no mattaa..."
dopest dope.
well since every one here talks crap.....great job bro love it man inspiration
do you use Ableton live in this? What instrument if so, looks like a drumrack. Awesome vid! :D
Redonkulous how easy you made that look! :-/ Very nice!

thank you for not spamming random crap all over your video
if you set "one shot", sample will be played till the end. if you set "note", sample will be played till you pull your finger.
So play them! Just because someone uses a different means to create music doesn't mess up music - a limited mind messes up the music! akai mpc5000 i believe. its about 1800 used. theres alot of other mpcs too that are less.
which is what makes it beautiful
use a software synth hooked up to a daw like ableton, midi map all the controls you want to your knobs like filters etc. and record that into a midi track. then record the resulting midi track into an audio track (i do this by sending the audio from the midi track out into another track and recording it - this converts midi information into samplable audio), then sampling that and using a software drum rack or something to play back the snippets from your mpk's pads. make any sense at all? haha
:O he makes the creation of dubstep seem so easy
so i didn't know til now that you can sample a keyboard into an mpc.. makes me really wanna get one now
Hi, It's cool!
Do you have a video of how to makt thos phat sound out of MS2000?
I kind of has a same setup (MPC, MS2000R), but it would be great to know the setup of the synth for those kind of sound!
Thanx
Your a monster good work mate
I imagine a finished product would sound nothing like this. This sounds like chaos with a base line.
Well good job Gustavo!
Classical composers used manuscript to write music for orchestras. Now, we use sequencing and midi to write music for virtual synths etc to play.
It's not always live, but who cares, there is still skill, it may not be the same skills but you still need talent!
how did you edit that? Intro? Not trying to Copy It.
he killed it!
dude thank you thank you thank you you help me sooo much and how much will all of this cost
Pure comedy value while high, man blaze that!
It's also 2010, it's evolved a lot since then.
Yes the guys with the resting your chin on your left hand remark really has got me going, I missed the video thinking about how he knew it was my left hand... I am right handed even. What are the odds? Lmao
i want to get into this kind of stuff. what equipment would you recommend to a beginner ?
i like how he thinks of him self as an artist and like he is playing a real instrument
Original Scary monster and Nice Sprites album done with massive and ableton on a laptop with one speaker blown in a warehouse in LA. So... yeah.
GODDAMN! He made it look so easy.
Have three pads in a case and eight cases - we use for private partys and other events. Would you consider doing a trade show on two of our new pads?
this is dope dude
Good ass equipment u got nice track & keep doin the best u can ...
Guys, this isn't Dnae not explaining anything, im sure this network that filmed him just said, "Hey, can you make a quick dubstep song for us?" And then labeled it tutorial
1:17 that wave form is a solid brick.
it just takes a good ear and some creativity to make good music.. and when you do something new you can be the pioneer of it...
which do you think is harder playing piano or making dubstep? just because it sounds complicated doesn't mean it is complicated.
Aysia Buie It depends what you are playing on the piano or what style of dubstep you are playing. I've used a DAW, not the equipment this guy is using and some dubstep is technically difficult, the sounds are hard to create as they aren't always available they have to be synthesized. However complex doesn't always mean better, some simple beats seem to really have soul to me and vice versa.
This looks like fun. :)
nice tutorial im sure plenty of people learned a lot from this
Nope
hey bro.. was wondering if you can save projects, sequences ect. on the korg ms2000b?
For anyone who wants to make custom dubstep beats there is a pc/mac guide by btv solo on beatsdub.com where you can do this no expensive equipment necessary.
This guy has talent!!
this guy is a hero
