  • Quite a few changes here.the main change is the songs titleIt was once I Got Feelings(all the way up to the Broadway version)
    Other changes:
Project#9-Each girl has her own full verse, including Effie, explaining their feelings(Michelle-marriage,Lola-solo success,Deena-movies,Effie-forgivness(?)the tempo is much slower
Boston Tryout-Same as 9,but Effies part is taken out and they add, what I like to call, The Mesh(all three girls singing overlaps each other)
Broadway version 1-Pretty much what we here today, but no verses, just the Mesh
Broadway version 2-What we hear today(removal of the Mesh) except Deena sings the entire 1st verse alone.
    Movie version-Deena shares both verses.

MAN!! I forgot that Nell Carter was originally Effie White during the workshops. You hear her distinct voice in this. We have a lot to be thankful for and proud of as a people!

is it just me or the versions featuring LLB the band sounds awsome more authentic for the time period

I love LLB's version- the standout Deena among all of them because she doesn't follow the blueprint that SLR created. I wish they would cast more "colorful" Deena's like her in more productions.

I know peeps get tired of the Supremes comparison, but the lady at the apprx. 2 minute mark (Lalani?) sounds a lot like the early 60's Diana Ross.

@babyboi1002 LOL, you're probably right! I know someone was from "Arms Too Short..." I might have mixed the two up.

    Hey babyboi1002,
This is AMAZING! Where did you get the audio from the actor's workshop of this song that plays at the beginning? That's Nell Carter @ 02:21 mark.
Carter was supposed to be in the "Effie" role. I read that DG creator Tom Eyen saw Nell in a musical called "Your Arms Too Short To Box With God" and wanted to build a musical around her and some friends.
The workshop with Ralph & Carter was the writing part of the show. More please!

My favorite will always be the moivie version, they just sounded perfect together, vocally supreme, and the music arrangement is simply the best of all (it has an Oscar for that, I think). The korean version was very good (although the vocals sound like a copy of the movie lol), also the national tour is very good. Thanks for the video.

No it didn't get a Oscar for it. You don't get an Oscar for music that is already out.

The live/stage version was H-O-T...the show absolutely sizzled and oozed "show biz" in every instant. The movie version was very good and VERY different. On stage, the show moved like lightening and dazzled in every moment. Revolutionary, too, as the staging was very cinematic and non-stop in energy and movement. The audience was the audience when the characters were in performance mode so, I for one, was transported to the time period of The Supremes, etc. as a result.

I really like "the mesh". I guess when the show was in the final stages they wanted it to sound like "Someday We'll Be Together" as much as possible. Who knows? Kudos for including the Korean version. I wonder how close the lyrics are to the English ones? There's always something lost in translation. I also wonder how they handled the racial aspect of the show, if it was translated to something totally different or if the Koreans understood all the Black and White strife in the USA's past?

@babyboi1002 , oh, I think Beyonce could've pulled off "diva". It just wasn't in the script. I kinda wish she had been more of a diva and demanded more material and music and "diva" moments beyond just Listen.
