It's so interesting and lovely to hear Patti in this lighter, upper range tone. She has only been cast as a belter since this role. And it's so refreshing to hear this lighter side of her voice. She really has a great softer upper range. I wish she got to show it off more often.
Amazing!! Patti sounds fantastic here! There is just something so awesomely special and magical about the original staging, costumes and choreography! The new staging/productions just can’t match that! Where as the original staging has focus, the new stagings do not. They are so dull and boring and try to make Eva more sympathetic and “likable” and try to follow the look and feel of the movie version. I so wish I could travel back in time to see Patti in this production!
Totally agree this is an awesome performance, from an actress very at home in the role after the initial baptism of fire of a rushed pre - broadway schedule. Hal Prince's translation from vinyl to stage is a master piece of theatrical direction, greatly assisted by the wonderful Larry Fuller. Thank you for posting bravo xx
I dream of traveling back in time to see this! I can't imagine why they didn't think to record it - it broke my heart to discover that the copy at Lincoln Center isn't Patti.
@@JoannesVodkaStinger … It’s a shame that all Broadway shows aren’t recorded and sold for us! Then we aren’t stuck with the crappy Hollywood versions. I know it’s a rights issue, but, if Sondheim can figure it out and most of his get recorded on stage, I would think so can others.
The night I saw it back in September ‘79 the audience applauded when she popped out on the balcony in the white dress. It was pretty exciting!
You can't imagine how jealous I am that you were able to see this. I can't imagine. How thrilling that must have been!

I’ve been dying to see the balcony speech from this particular bootleg! You are the BEST, thank you so much!!
You are so welcome! I wish it were clearer, but I still have hope that Aurora will post their version one day. My fingers are always crossed! :-)

@@JoannesVodkaStinger…. And who stars in the Lincoln Center recording? I knew that Patti wasn’t in that one, but, I don’t know who’s in it
@@bookemdano7567 I’m pretty sure it’s the pretty terrific Loni Ackerman.
This is hands down her best performance of this song 4:50 … just chills
