What a great, honest, “polite” review. As a long term multi Toyota SUV owner/fan club member (currently own 08 Sequoia with 200K miles) I really wanted to love the SUV as my next purchase but can’t. Far, Far too many shortcomings for a family SUV. Great but unrefined power terrain, horrible cargo and storage area, miserable 3rd row seat (and lets be honest your sitting position in that second row looked horrible for anything other than a short drive), and poor/jittery ride/handling for a family is puzzling to me. Add to that a 80K price tag, unimpressive mpg and this is just a big swing and miss. I am disappointed as I waited 2 years for the 3rd gen but will pass. I will predict that within 2 years the sales will be as disappointing as those of the 2nd generation in its last gasps for fresh air.
I have a 2017 Sequoia Platinum. The thing i love the most is how comfortable all the seats are for comfortable long-distance driving. You truly can get 3 adults in the 3rd row seats and they recline. The 2nd row are extremely comfortable and position like 1st row seating. I am ready to upgrade. But it does not appear what i love most is built into the new version. So upset about this. If you’re going to drive a large SUV like a Sequoia, the interior layout is very important. You can get a better driving car from a smaller car. Starting to look at other SUV’s or wait to see if Toyota fixes in future years.
Power and fuel economy, and hopefully Toyota reliability is what make this more appealing, but mainly in the TRD off-road and TRD Pro versions. I wouldn't buy a Capstone over like a Yukon, unless I planned on keeping it long-term. Still don't trust GM long-term reliability.
Get the V8 GX 460 while you still can. Proven drivetrain reliability, V8 refinement, Mark Levinson audio, Full time 4WD, built in Japan. And the best part? It's $12k cheaper compared to this thing (Sequoia). I really don't know what this "thing" is trying to accomplish.
Was the test drive done after the Platinum had the suspension “fix” which came out in February ? Apparently it was the same fix as the tundras with air suspension.
This wasn't "off road driving". It was a gravel road and the equivalent to a farm road. Crossovers we have tested performed better here. If we had tested a TRD Pro out here on the same road we would be laughed at as its capabilities are so far above and beyond this mild off-pavement "soft road" driving. Even so, the interior trim would have rattled just the same.
@@TestDrivenTV I don't believe you are objective , u all talked about cons of the vehicle, even hybrid has better fuel efficiency than V8 , u presented like a con. This is just one example. Toyota never fail to achieve reliability standards even better, u didn't even mention it. You compared to American trucks and pointing is a better deal, but there is people like me sees your intentions and motivations are noticed. Yes by the time you killed Toyota you have to go thru several American made SUV. There for I believe you are not fully fair.
First year mods, so best wait till they get it right. I'd rather drop 80 grand on a used V8 Lexus LX 570. Yeah you don't get the electronics, but you get a way better engine, a lot more comfort and refinement to mention a few. Plus if you really have to have the updated Apple carplay you can find someone to install for about 1500 bucks. This would not be a vehicle I would buy with a V6 engine, I don't care what anyone says.
Bro. $80K for this? It used to be the conspiracy that the oil companies were driving the low EPA standards to force people to spend a "certain" amount of their wallet share in cost of ownership. Now I'm wondering if its not the banks trying to grow that aggregate $1.6T+ debt that Americans now hold just like they did with the housing industry. The difference is vehicles do not appreciate. Why do people accept this? What ever happened to the high quality affordable cars?
Sam, I have a 2015 chevy tahoe and we’re ready for an upgrade. We’re considering the new 23’ sequoia but have some concerns about drive quality after watching your video. If it was your money spent, would you choose an expedition, Tahoe, Yukon or sequoia. Thanks!
Sam, when you dig below the modern surface, this vehicle is 10+yo. There is nothing modern about it at all. Sure, the 10spd auto is okay, but there is nothing revolutionary and definitely nothing worth $80k. I see $40k profit.
I'm hearing the same comments from many channels regarding many 2022 and 2023 Toyotas that have too many of annoying warning bells and buzzers. That means too much of this tech is slapped on vehicles. Toyota is turning me off with all these nanny bells that are now annoyances and distractions to driving.
No. If you look back across our catalog and the dates, our production cadence rate hasn't changed much in the last 4-5 years. Thank you for watching ;)
The most trust worthy honest reviewer on TH-cam.

I own an '02 Sequoia Limited 4x4 and I will happily see it roll over 350k this summer.
Don't matter what you say, we love Toyota!
The price and the move from V8 to TTV6 would be fine but the amount of vibration making it into the cabin is unacceptable for a truck in this class.
Tundra has same issue... that center console is not well built. I hope they resolve this within a couple years.

I’ll stick with the Nissan Armada, the only Japanese V8 suv in existence in the mainstream brand department.
Good review. I am glad your honest.
Subscribed!. Thanks for giving a real review!. Many reviews sound like paid ads by Toyota.

Its so weird how all the previous gen Toyota trucks feel solid and so far these two new rigs aren't filling their predecessors shoes.

Not no, hell no too overrated not to mention that it has a twin turbski, Not the V8.
I'm sorry, the answer we were looking for is '42'

Since the video is dated January, likely not.
I would consider the trd pro.. are the turbos, water cooled or just oil cooled and lubricated just wondering
I'm about 5'-9" with my boots on... I felt that brother! 😆
Looking at this or Tundra as an upgrade from 2017 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4.
For 80 grand i can buy a brand new GR86 for the weekend track car and a slightly used GX460 for overlanding
This is not meant for off road driving.
Try the TRD Pro trim or any off road optioned trim.

Great honest review. I have been wating for this one and the rear cargo is a no go for me. Maybe the Tahoe....
Honest review? He hates Toyota what you talking about?
@@serkanister3620 really?

@Serkan We don't hate any brand, nor do we have a cult-like love for them that blinds us to reality. We call the shots as they actually are.

So now the Ford Expedition has a direct competitor
No need to review, the answer is no.

good feedback for next refresh. this is a miss and avoid first few years. wait for the refresh, just as the tundra.

Sequoia, TRD Pro.
Expedition all the way

You mean for five years max 😂
Permanent 3rd row is show stopper
Waste gate issues…KEEP AWAY!
Needs thr V8 engine back and a IRS

Nice and simple is best for reliability. Less things to break
For a hybrid, this is horrible mpg. 80k for a non V8, fake engine noise, no cargo, and a rough ride. Hard pass.
What a disappointment. Thanks for the review.
Those mirrors are hideous
Land Cruiser wins again...
Good to see your videos Again Sam

Yes, but it is supposed to be reliable for 300,000 miles.
