I am so sorry about your hailstorm. It seems to be getting more and more frequent here. Your attitude is pretty amazing and a lot better than mine usually is. I am always debating about throwing in the towel, but we all know that will never happen! Keep it up...your yard is amazing and worth it! Despite the destruction, Mother Nature does thank you! Also, it's hard to hit the like button on videos like this, but I will just to support this video and your fantastic education about working with hail damage.
I so appreciate your thoughtful comment! My hardest days are in the middle of summer when everything in the garden looks like a tumbleweed and we have water restrictions. Those are the days I’m tempted to say “let it all burn!” 😂 For the most part gardening challenges offer me an opportunity to keep learning and trying new things. Just subscribed to your channel! Can’t wait to dig into that April video(your garden looks stunning!)
Everytime I walk outside and the weather is unbearable and I'm swarmed by mosquitos, I want to throw in the towel. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one.
Thank you for sharing your garden adventures with us. You have a great garden which gives me something to strive for. Conspicuously absent from your garden is white sage. With all the pandemonium there in Texas I think a little smudging is in order. Smile. As always you are loved and appreciated. Best wishes.
Texas has been having some Bad rainstorms, this recent one has some people in Houston still with no lights. Glad you were able to clean-up a lot of the damage. Wow your greenhouse...smh Tfs
I wasn't even home when the storm rolled through Houston! I was still working in France... Through some miracle... Not one thing was out of place on my balcony. I was so worried that my pachypodium had toppled over or something, but nope!
I know you know how excited I was about a greenhouse this year, but I have to tell you that I'm rethinking it. The 8x8 pop up I used last winter really was perfect and easy to put away when not needed in the Summer. Sorry about all the destruction you had. It was handy for protecting the shed contents while we were having it moved. lol
Thanks Jean. I hear you on your greenhouse and maybe you’ll do better because your kit seems better quality. To me the polycarbonate panels seem like the Achilles heel of the average greenhouse kit…pricey and inconvenient to replace for most.
i hope your roof did ok in the hail storm. When you get around to a permanent greenhouse, consider a 4 season greenhouse with a solid north and west wall, which makes it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. i am on my second greenhouse (moved to an older house with no HOA). For this one i took a 10x 10 shelter logic greenhouse and used the frame and really beefed it up to make it permanent. i reinforced the frame with 2x 4's, i made the north and west wall out of ondura roofing. The north half of the roof is ondura roofing, the south half is polycarbonate.i put in a ridge vent in for Texas summers. I will block that off in the winter. i have a solid wood shed door on the east side. The south side is removable polycarbonate panels. The whole thing is encased in black vinyl coated hardware cloth to exclude rodents. i think it looks fine and is not an eyesore in the yard. My last greenhouse was a cattle panel greenhouse with ondura roofing and solawrap (greenhouse bubble wrap). it worked super well because it had a roll up south wall. The only problem was my cats liked to hang out on top and their nails would poke holes in the solawrap.
Thank-you for sharing the details of your greenhouse setup. Your garden must have levels upon levels of efficiency. If you’d ever be open to sharing more about your garden would you consider emailing me theplantninja@gmail.com(I would love to do a FaceTime of your garden space!)I completely understand if that is not something you’d be interested in, so no pressure!
That's a bummer. I had one of those greenhouses too, and had it planted up against my house. We had a bad ice storm and a big sheet of ice let loose off the side of the house and smashed it to bits. I was thinking about all the hail and if its big enough it could potentially break a glass roof too, so a tempered glass greenhouse would probably be the best permanent solution. I bet they are big $$$ so might not be worth it.
Ughhhh that is so devastating to see! All your efforts! Weather around here is so extreme and can be so destructive, it needs a determined gardener to keep going! OMG I love turtles!!! 🐢 There were always some around my grandma's house, they feel like family lol He found refuge in your garden, that is so awesome! ♥ Oiiiii the agave! ☹ I've been waiting to get a green house, because I'm scared of hail. Can you buy replacement panels for yours? Wishing you the best and a quick garden recovery! Great video!
What’s up Martha! Thanks for popping in and checking things out. I think you can buy polycarbonate sheets but my greenhouse is not one that you can clip them in like others…so definitely look for that if you do get a polycarbonate panel greenhouse. I feel like there’s a lot of good ways to do a greenhouse so it’s almost overwhelming to figure out what’s the best fit for me. That little turtle made my day. I didn’t know they burrowed like that! Do post a video if you get a greenhouse…I may have to copy you😬
@@theplantninja-texasgardener Well, in my mind I wanted the whimsical old-door-DIY bunch of glass greenhouse, but around here it would not be practical at all lol - I will make a video if we get one!
I'm new here and visiting based on a recommendation. I'm in Houston 9b now. Weather has been very unusual the last 2-3 years with 16 degree days, extreme heat and drought last summer and now crazy hail which is rare for my area between Houston and Galveston. Even here that wind driven rain/hail shredded up leaves, especially on my roses. So shocked to see what's happened to your greenhouse, I can imagine how disappointing that must be. One question, you mentioned spraying for fungal issues with a copper spray? Are you finding it safe to spray in the heat of summer?
Hello Houston! Did Jo send you over?!😬 Sorry to hear about your roses! I agree, the weather has been all over the place. I’ve been gardening this spot for about 5 years and trying to figure out the pattern so I can be more intentional and less reactionary. In terms of the copper fungicide, honestly I haven’t been spraying at the recommended frequency and with all the rain I wonder if my application has been very effective. However, I have not noticed any damage from the spray. Unfortunately, I still have plenty of fungus but I suspect it was because I already had some disease(primarily on my tomato plants) before the storm, and I didn’t get it early enough. Your question made me curious and I had to look it up. Here’s one article I’ve found: www.vegetables.cornell.edu/pest-management/disease-factsheets/minimizing-injury-from-copper-fungicides/ Sorry I can’t give a more detailed account from an everyday gardener perspective but I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by to check out the channel!
@theplantninja-texasgardener yup, it was Jo who mentioned your channel and then another of Jo's subscribers also made a positive comment for your channel. I'll give the link a look over. I've heard contrasting viewpoints regarding the use of copper fungicide during the summer. Course I know to definitely not spray it or some other products during the midday of the day but am hesitant to use it even towards evening. Well you have a very lovely garden, quite different from Jo's, but both are very appealing.
Question about your water tank: Did it come with all the necessary hardware to set it up like you have it? Was their an inlet hole and outlet fittings already installed or did you have to do all of that yourself? I have been wanting a metal tank for my yard, as well. Thank you!
Great questions! Inlet and outlet were installed. I think I had to purchase the spigot. I interviewed a co-owner of Texas Metal Tanks where he explained soooo much about the different considerations here👉th-cam.com/video/RywmSED3NZU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iiom5bkL1n0etgjJ I installed an inexpensive RV pump in this one👉th-cam.com/video/yNaXBOxVt68/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Xke09SPbQMXV4m0j I definitely plan on getting another tank!
my garden was shredded by the hail - no other damage - so grateful for that
Sorry to hear you had damage at all. Glad it was minimal😊
Love that little turtle!!!
He was such a cute surprise!

I’m glad you’re ok and I hate your garden has to be restored but it’s still quite beautiful my friend! These Texas storms have been crazy
Thanks Kae! That greenhouse was an expensive lesson but I learned a few things that I think will help me make a better purchase in the future!
