    Really good recap of the race, I like the fact that you asked the questions everyone wants to know 👍 my wife, Jodie, never watches my running videos either - we threaten the kids with having to watch them if they ask for too much tv 🤣
    Interesting about the time spent in aid stations - especially that middle one, I’m sure it probably didn’t seem it at the time but 65 minutes is a fair old lump of time. Sounds like you did well up to the point you said with nutrition it’s amazing to think 8792 calories is bonkers! But I guess that’s what needed to fuel a body and mind through 100km. I think you did amazing mate, and this format of recap is also fantastic.
    I like what you have planned for the future, I hiked the Offas Dyke trail with my dad when I was about 17 or 18 (We also walked the Viking Way as well) Offas is very rugged and hilly if I Remember correctly, but it was a few years ago - good memories though - you’ll enjoy that over 7 days!

      Hey Ash, thanks for the great comments 😎. That’s a few times now I’ve heard the Offas Dyke is quite rugged and hilly! I think I will get myself some running poles and learn to use them. Whereabouts is the Vikings Way?

    • @skinnylegsbarefootshoes

      @@trailrunningphil Poles sound like a great idea. Viking way runs from the Humber Bridge near Hull to Oakham in Rutland, and is lovely and very flat in comparison.

    Interesting summary and analysis of your ultra, run. I have no idea how people do them. To me it's like going into another planet. There are so many things you have to consider. My head would be so overwhelmed, it would be bursting.

    • @trailrunningphil

      I’m not so sure you would be overwhelmed. If anything, the trick is to think about nothing! Women are far stronger at endurance running than men because they problem solve better and don't push themselves when they don't need to. Why not volunteer at an ultra event and see what its all about and pick up more tips?

    G'day Phil, thanks for the videos, keep at it.
    Aware this video relates to the 2022 race - super effort by the way, hitting the wall, getting a bite to eat (how good are hot chips), and recovering enough to finish is huge.
    I wonder how an extra year of knowledge has altered your thinking do you feel the advice you gave in this video remains relevant - what else have you learnt?
    I am heading into London next year, and prior to a nice family holiday, will run the 100km (so watching everything I can now to learn more about it - tips, tricks, no faffing etc.)
    Maybe you can go around 1 more time (target under 15hrs?)

    • @trailrunningphil
      @trailrunningphil  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Peter, thanks for the great comments. You know, I am considering doing the event again next yes! What would I do differently? Take salt tablets throughout to help stop those leg cramps. Do not accept not wanting anything to eat and Forcing myself to get more real food on board, even it it means it takes along time to eat it. I also wouldn’t get fully changed halfway unless I was soaking wet. I believe I could get in around 14 hours and would enjoy seeing if I could! Thanks for the comments and good luck with your training which I must add, is very important for enjoying your day too!!

    • @peternelson6394
      @peternelson6394 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      14 hours, there's your challenge!@@trailrunningphil I've not suffered cramping in long events (yet) but agree it's better to plan and to be prepared. the aid stations can eat up time so quickly - get in/out or you can get trapped.
      Do you carry a (written/electronic) race strategy? I find having a short 'do this at 5-10-15km etc' type list on teh phone or card keeps food/hydration/social/aid station strategy (I list to relax, talk, walk and enjoy) on track especially when fatiguing.

    • @trailrunningphil
      @trailrunningphil  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that is sensible and perhaps I should make some "on race" notes. A good shout because as you say, when your fatigued the brain just doesn't work properly! I REALLY need to eat more food thats for sure. Seeing what other people get down them is making me realise that fueling for these ultra's is something then I need to improve on. I've decided I definatley WILL be there next year so if you are competing, and see me, make sure you come and say hello :)
