I just bought a piano, and am starting to learn. This fabulous piece of music from my childhood is something that I really want to be able to play some day.

This is actually an easy song for a beginner on the piano. The 16th note into the song, aka about 6.5 seconds into the song, is middle C, which is the universal "anchor" note on the piano and other keyboard instruments. The notes for the base are "All Cows Eat Grass" ACEG for the spaces, and "Good Boys Deserve Fruit Always" GBDFA for the lines, the notes for the treble are FACE for the spaces, and "Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit" EGBDF for the lines. The sharps used are C sharp and F sharp, so it is in the key signature of D major. The timing is common time aka 4:4 time, so to count the beats you say "1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and" per bar. For the first bar "1" is the first note, a treble F sharp, the first "and" is the second note, a base A ... "4" is the seventh note, a treble E and a base D, and the fourth "and" aka the eighth note is a treble D. Try it out.
