I was in 8th when this song came out. For a young reckless kid who cared for nothing more than to play sport and be out and about with friends, it’s surprising how instantly I latched onto the song. Never even understood the depths of it but somehow connected, not for the lyrics, not for the meaning, but purely for how it felt listening to it.
Might sound “cringe” but there were parts of it I’d replay to cry myself to sleep in attempts to feel the kind of pain I’d never felt in real life. A (sad) main character energy but true story 🤷♀️
It wasn’t just another song. It tied me to ideas of love and passion in ways I didn’t get to experience in reality. And I loved it, loved how it all felt larger than life, loved getting swept into my imagination for a brief 5-10 mins before it was snooze fest and the dreams would take over.
Over time as I understood the breath-taking lyrics, the song gradually and rightly carved out a permanent space in my heart, calmed my chaotic soul with each listen, and healed parts of me like the medicine you know is good for you but is bitter to the mouth.
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon it again after idk how many years and it took me back in a flash. Plenty has changed in the life but not much has about the song I’m afraid. It still prompts the bittersweet paradoxical feelings as it would back then, except I can now put it in words.. feelings of
belief but not without self doubt
passion but not without fear
hope but not without aching nostalgia
and a love that isn’t meant to be.
Saajna/or Maadno teaches you. It holds your hand and shows how to feel deeply, for yourself and others, and be in touch with your emotions. I owe to this sing my first encounter to the warmth and compassion within me. 💕

Read your experience with this song. I found it later in life. I feel so found when you say "cry myself to sleep in attempts to feel the kind of pain I’d never felt in real life". Exactly what I felt when I heard the words "Hai dil ko teri aarzoo, par mai tujhe na paa saku" Just, the inherent helplessness of a love not meant for you but love nonetheless. Love your rendition, you brought the purity out in the song!
Even I heard this when I was way back in school. We all want to arrive at a safe place which we have named as “love”, and the hardships in between glorifies the journey even more. Maybe it’s the same thing about the song which makes it stick with a few of us even after all these years.
And yes, thank you for making me realize that I was not the only one who likes this song !!
